      @@RK3Designs how would you recommend doing this with countertops that have sink built in.. w/o removing from vanity. Won’t the epoxy clog the drain? I assume you would need to avoid letting it go down the drain somehow...

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll need to disconnect the drain. We usually take the actual drain plug out and tape it. Then just let the epoxy run down into a bucket. As soon as the epoxy starts to get set, pull the tape. The only other way would be to plug the drain and just keep taking the epoxy out as it runs down the sink.

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the sink made of stone or wood? If you can sand it down flat, that would be the optimal thing. If it’s not sandable, you can trowel on a layer of self leveling Quick dry cement to level, let dry then pour.

      Hey Lori, thanks for watching. I like to use spray paint because it gives me so many options and I can get effects that can’t be achieved any other way. You do have to make sure they the epoxy you’re using is compatible with spray paint. Not all epoxies are. I usually only use spray paints.

    I’m ordering everything to do this on my kitchen but, do I order more SCC to account for the clear coat or, is that already factored in? I have a very small amount of counter space, about 23 square feet, so is 1 gallon enough or, should I order 1 1/2 gallons? I am disabled and on a very limited budget so, every penny really matters when I order what I need! I would really, really appreciate it if you could possibly respond quickly! Thank you so much for these amazing videos!! I was so afraid of epoxy until I found you!! 🥰

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww. You are too sweet. You’ll need 3 oz. / sq ft for each layer. So you’ll have your color coat and your flood coat. So that 23 sq ft x 6. You’ll need 138 oz so I would order 1 1/2 gallons. Order the Art Coat since it’s a white finish. If you order from my website before noon, I’ll ship it the same day. 😊 www.rk3designs.com/shop#epoxy-resin

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re doing a pour in place, I do suggest removing sinks, stove tops etc. if you pour without removing, you’ll have to damage the countertop if you decide to remove later.

      Oh I’m sorry. I forgot to address that question. You’ll need to either remove the tile or Bondo over the tile. You’ll want to use a bonding primer first so you’ll have good adhesion.

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You’ll want to scuff sand the surface, than prime with a good Bonding primer. I use XIM. Then proceed. Most of the time we remove the backsplash. It will be very difficult to get this finish in a verticals surface because the epoxy is going to run off. We actually make backslashes out of MDF, pour then flat, then install. 😊
