Speaking of Superman, Christopher Reeves was originally supposed to have a full-fledged cameo in this movie, but after the disappointment of Superman 3, he didn't want anything to do with this. Apparently, he even needed a more lucrative deal to even get him back for Superman 4.
The story had to be re-written in some areas to remove Clark/Superman from the original script, which is what lead to some of the inconsistencies. Actors Peter O'Toole and Faye Dunaway were both at a all-time low in their careers. O'Toole hadn't had a major movie role in some time, and took whatever he could. Dunaway; however, got totally blasted for her role in Mommy Dearest. Even though the movie did well enough; it was more of a cult following; as fans would go to the movie with wire hangers just to scream the infamous line, 'No wire hangers, ever!' She was at the top of her career when Mommy Dearest came out, and that movie tanked it. Taking this role was the best she could get at the time. Pity; as both actors are great actors with big movies behind them. O'Toole would go on to make Club Paradise in 1986, and High Spirits in 1988, as well as a minor role in Phantoms that same year. All major bombs. It would be a while before O'Toole would get a hit movie. He was also the voice of the food critic, Ego in Ratatouille

While I can't remember all the details...Comet the Super Horse was a Silver Age character who could occasionally turn into a human. He would then try to date Supergirl while keeping it secret that he was actually her pet horse. Also, I THINK he was originally a centaur. I'm pretty sure Casually Comics did a video or two on him and his...problematic romantic pursuits.
Okay so in actual origin of Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) she is not only Kal-El (Superman)’s cousin, but she was also launched in a pod off of Krypton shortly before it exploded. She was charged with taking car of her baby cousin on Earth, however her pod was launched off course so by the time she made it to Earth Clark was all grown up and now known as Superman.
That's more or less her revised origins when she was reintroduced in the early 2000s. Her original origins from the Silver Age of comics (which this movie would've taken inspiration from) the city she lived in survived the explosion of Krypton, albeit with the ground beneath them being irradiated with kryptonite that needs a lead sheeting in order to protect the survivors. Kara only ends up being sent to Earth by her father to save her after a meteor shower destroys the protective sheeting. She only relieved Superman was her cousin after meeting him for the first time.
Whelp, we've only got three Super related reviews left with Superman Returns, Justice League, and finely Justice League Snyder Cut. Hope to see you then.
If you ever read a Superman/Supergirl comic from the silver age, you should know that there’s a lot of weird stuff in that. Like back in the day there used to be a love triangle between Superman, Lois and Lana. One comic involved Lois and Lana thinking that Superman was turned into a toddler. Where the plot involved them pretty much trying to groom the toddler so that when he’s older, he would fall in love with one of them. Yep, that was an actually story. But it’s OK, it turns out that wasn’t actually Superman, but a Superman from an alternate earth. Where he grew up and married both the Lana and Louis of his earth. There was even a story where Superman talked to Supergirl about being together since they were the last kryptonians.
Because i am who i am. The Phineas and Ferb quote is from the movie across the 2nd dimension. It's a nice movie. I really reccommend it. .... ("I foooound a brand new best friend, and it's me~")
I believe the original, or at least one of her origin stories is that she was actually older than Clark and was sent on the ship right after during Krypton's destruction to look after him. But then something went wrong and she ended up in suspend sleep for like 20-30 years till Clark found. In the Superman animated series she came from Krypyon's neighboring planet that got screwed up when it exploded leaving her the last survivor just like Clark
I have no idea what were they thinking making this Movie I get that there wasn’t enough material to work with Supergirl but in all honesty I wish this Movie didn’t exist, sure surprisingly the Actress got the role of Kara’s adopted Mother in the TV Series( which in my personal opinion is one of the Worst Superhero Series I’ve ever watched in my life) I always thought Supergirl was just a Side Character, the Only Way he can have a Major Role is in Cartoon Movies, Series, and Games, this Spinoff feels like people were on Drugs making the Script and turned into a Weird Adult Film Fantasy Movie that was rejected 10 Times, all that’s left is Superman Returns, Justice League, and the Snyder Cut, Malcolm was truly the best part of the Reaction.
You never heard of Supergirl? *Scene of JonTron saying "WHAT!?" along with clip of everyone facepalming* She's on the front cover of Injustice for crying out loud. She got her own TV show on primetime TV. Heck, she was heavily advertised in the recent Flash movie. She's been around, let's see *go to Google*, since 1959. From what I understand, after Crisis of Infinite Earth in the comics and rebooting the comics, they really wanted to make Superman sole survivor of Krypton, so when they brought back Supergirl in the 90s, they made different version that's completely different than the one from Krypton. We did go back to regular classic version in the 00s. The 90s cartoon had to go around all this saying she not from Krypton but from a nearby planet that got damaged from Krypton's explosion. This version of this Supergirl and Christopher Reeve's Supes appear in a cameo of the recent Flash movie where he was seeing all the alternate worlds and saw full CGI re-creations of these two for two seconds.
Supergirl in the comics can be complicated, or not. Unlike her cousin Kal-El, she was a full teenager when her entire world died. That's a lot of baggage, and writers sometimes lean into that, and sometimes they don't. Melissa Benoist as Supergirl is about as good a template for the character as exists, so I recommend just watching her.
Supergirl is actually really interesting. She is Superman's older cousin but was in cryo sleep. In the comics she struggles to adapt because she wasn't raised on earth. And at one point she became a red lantern, a green lantern but with rage

Sueprgirl has been a thing in comics for a really long time, she appeared in the comics even before villains like General Zod did.
