  • After many failed attempts to true this assembly, I decided to look deeper into the problem and found a probable explanation.

    In addition to my love of motorcycles, I am also the "go to" guy to service and repair model aircraft engines both two and four stroke for our model flying club. It never ceases to amaze and infuriate me when I see such idiocy and lack of respect for a fine engine as you and I see on a regular basis.

      On the flip side of that, I suppose it keeps us busy!

    What a peculiar set of ill fitting parts. Nothing too daunting for someone alert, but a nightmare for someone lacking experience. A job for a proper fitter - like you.

    Sensible option, new crank pin time. Probably work out cheaper than all the time you would need to piss about. But I'm sure you like me enjoy the challenge, I'd be machining out the thrust washer to fit 👍

    G'day Paul, some times your set a hard task to test your metal, l have no dought you will come through with flying colours, remember tooling settings are within half a brick in India, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

    Interesting problem. Wouldn’t it be easier to just fit a new big end assembly and be done with it!

    Quick spin on the lathe... how's the thrust washer?

    Could you press pin out and run it up on lathe to fix the washer better ?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Possibly, but I had another crankpin to hand so a swap was easier, quicker and cheaper.

    Looks like the other side has the same issue

      The other side wasn't as bad and actually went fully home. Bad, lop sided machining of the crankpin, one I've not happened upon before.

    Might someone have mixed up the thrust washers, in other words might the other have a larger chamfer?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, the crankpin was machined with different radius shoulders!

    In my experience, the thrust washers fit allowed them to float around the crankpin. Are these somehow captive with a tight fit?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, RE Bullet thrust washers are always trapped by the flywheel faces and don't float or spin.
