Finally!! I'm glad somebody said it!! Chris is 100% correct, they do not treat Wembenyama like the player that he is! Every time I watch the Spurs play, it becomes so obvious that the other players do not see him as a go to guy! They are not looking for him hardly ever!! It's amazing that he still gets the numbers that he gets, I'd say that's a testament to how great he is! It's shocking to me that this is happening under a coach like Popovich!!

This guy is 7’4 playing like a guard. It’s hard to coach a team where everyone is playing the same position. The game is also changed where there are no more true point guards to run the play for him to score. If he had a strong back to basket or block game he would be more effective as well.

      Facts 😂

    • @cyber6sapien
      @cyber6sapien 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Rob is being idiotic.
      1. Wemby isn't just young, but he also wasn't trained in the United States. So he has
to grow accustomed to the way the NBA game is played, and the size and skill level of the players
      as well.
      2. The Spurs are one of the worst teams in the league talentwise, outside of Wemby. This makes it
even harder on a kid who is just learning the ropes, because there is no other star present to take the
pressure off of him in key moments.
      3. With the exception of LeBron, no other very young player has come into the NBA and impacted winning
right away. And as Chris mentioned, even LeBron struggled in his first few NBA games.
      4. Also when you have the ball in your hands, it's way easier to dictate what happens out on the floor. A player like
Victor plays off the ball. So his impact is limited to how often other perimeter players can get him the ball,
and in what spots. Whereas guys like LeBron and Luka don't have to wait on their teammates to get them the
ball. They are the ones who control the action.
      5. Chris is comparing Wemby to all these other NBA legends. Well, apart from point #1, most of those legends
came into the league at age 21 or older. They were seasoned college veterans. Magic was drafted into a
      championship ready team.
      6. The Western conference is unforgiving. Even mediocre teams can beat you in the West. The Spurs
are basically running an experiment with Wemby right now, to see what all he can do. So everyone has
all these expectation of them, when clearly that is not the mindset of the franchise at this particular time.

It all stems from the Jeremy Sochan point guard experiment. There is a 23 points per 100 possession negative swing when Victor is paired with Tre Jones as his PG vs Sochan as his PG. Tre Jones looks for Victor, he knows how to get the ball to Victor in advantageous situations. Sochan can't play PG period.
The duo of Jones and Victor actually outscores their opponent by 4.5 points per 100 possessions when they play together. The duo of Sochan and Victor gets outscored by over 18 points per 100 possesssions when they play together.

I’ve been Spurs fan since the ABA days, and in my humble opinion the reason the Spurs are struggling badly is because they have no floor general (point guard) , if you recall the Spurs traded for Cam Payne but then he began to whine about how badly he wish he was still playing for Phoenix and the Spurs decided to cut him and I’m so glad they did! If he doesn’t want play for the silver and black then you say adios Cam!, but for some odd reason the Spurs didn’t look for his replacement during free agency this summer and instead they decided to make Jeremy Sochan their point guard and that decision has turned out to be a major blunder by the Spurs. Jeremy is a very good athletic small forward and on his second year as a pro, no way should he be a point guard. If they can find a smart veteran point guard next summer during free agency, they are going to be a much better team but still even though they don’t have a true point guard right now these young men play really hard for each other every night thanks!

I am not surprised that the Spurs lost 18 games in a row. This is primarily due to their tough schedule (probably the toughest in the league). They have a very young team, and apart from Wemby, their defense is not strong (28th in the league). In addition, other than Wemby, they lack outstanding players. Furthermore, Wemby doesn't have a true point guard, except for Tre Jones. However, Pop has not started him with Wemby, which seems like a poor decision. In my opinion, all these negative factors combined can explain why they lost 18 times.

I’ve watched a number of the Spurs games this year because Wemby was the most interesting player to watch coming into the season IMO. I said after the first game that what he needed more than anything else was a pure point guard. He has a bunch of guys on his team who literally don’t know how to use him or feed him the ball in ways where he can create for himself and for others. He has guys on his team that care more about getting their shots off then realizing that they have a guy on their team that is already so skilled as a teenager plus his size, that he can literally be a mismatch for 95-97% of the league if he was used right.
Also, everybody’s favorite coach Gregg Popovich should not be let off the hook either. Since all his star players led by Tim Duncan have either retired or forced to trade in Kawhi Leonard‘s case, Popovich hasn’t looked like the all-time great coach that everyone says he is. Maybe HE’S more of the problem then most of us realize.

You seriously have to understand personal and player tendencies...
For the majority of their games:
His starting center was Zach collins who sits in the paint every possession because his 3s are horrid
his pg was Sochan who lacks a reliant outside shot and defenders sag off and he dribbles with his head down which leads him to dribble into the paint without a plan.
Keldon's most efficient and most taken shot is his drives/layups.
Wemby sitting in the paint clogs the paint and basically has him being triple-teamed
Thats wasting energy when defenders are allowed to push and be physical with you in the post position.
Having him sitting in the paint basically makes every other player other than Vassell ineffective.

Wemby is averaging 28 MPG. Bron had 40 MPG in his rookie season with 16.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists over his first 20 games. He also had his teammates trying to actively pass to him. This is no where near Wemby fault. It is hard to build rhythm and learn the game as a number one option on a poop team only playing 28 minutes.

If wembenyama has a team high average points at what 18? Then what the hell is the rest of the team doing??

Media hyped him up to much! We all seen this coming. And the one thing that is stoping him from being great , is his size and it’s not the height. He is definitely the best on his team but it’s not enough for the rest of the league. He will still get his on some games because of his height but he does not scare any teams.

He's really good but it's the coach fault and the PG. I have watched their games and wemby needs a PG to give him easy buckets. It's on coach and PG to make plays for him they rarely do.

Well he is a teenager of course he doesn't scare anybody. Imagine how great he can be with a decent supporting cast.

He already scares them defensively. He scares people from shooting within ten feet of him and averages 4+ blocks+steals.
