The way Shaq interviewed Jokic after winning MVP was embarrassing and it was full resentment. If Shaq wanted more MVPs he should've stayed fit and in shape.
Fit and in shape doesn’t mean anything, the mvp was forever scarred when Steve Nash of all people won the award twice. And Shaq was fit in Orlando and they gave it to David Robinson. I remember Robinson scoring 70 points the last game of the season to beat Shaq in ppg average. And the other team basically let Robinson score to beat Shaq.
Hes the best center and best player it's not even close. Shai has a loaded team. The nuggets suck without him. Murray is a moron who has no intelligence and is conceited. @@HardCold-Alquan
@MikeBNumba6 Kobe basically said if Shaq had worked as hard as he himself did, Shaq would've had multiple more championships and would be in the goat conversation.
The biggest problem with this entire discussion is that people act like Jokic votes for himself. To be honest I dont think he really cares that much about winning MVP. I think it makes him happy to get recognized but Jokic has never been the guy to talk about how great he is. There is also another factor here. Last year was such a Anti Jokic vote as opposed to a pro Embiid vote because Kendrick Perkins decided to make things about race. This year was undoing the damage that did when Jokic went on a historical run when Embiid crashed and burned.
100% agree. Blame the voters who voted for that fraud Embiid last year. Denver had the 2nd most wins this year with no backup bigs and statistically he had the best season again. Having a different opinion is fine but people saying he isn’t deserving of MVP is insane. His screens changed the game last night and that doesn’t show up on a stat sheet
Quit pretending that people listen and value what Perk says. It had nothing to do with what he says and more to do with historical precedent. No one cares about perk like that bro
@@CarlosRayNorris1979 lol Murray is an all star when healthy but I get your point. Their starting 5 is talented but depth particularly at big is weak, and Murray is the only other guy that can consistently get his own bucket. Jokic doesn’t even have a backup. Regardless of what happens this year they need a 2nd big guy on their team. Anybody. That 4th foul was actually somewhat a blessing because it forced them to rest him and he had a monster 4th. If they can get someone to take 4-5 minutes from him before that stretch run in playoff games that is crucial and increases their odds. They may get by Minny this year but many of these teams are trending upward in the west.
Shaq is a jealous individual when he was shipped out of LA and won a chip with Miami he was shaking his ass talking about Kobe couldn't win one without him of course Kobe went on to win two more with gasol
SGA, if you think you’re winning MVP in your team’s first breakout season, you’re drunk. You gotta knock on MVP once or twice before you actually get it. I mean ask Luka.
You mean the guy that people SHOULD be debating for being robbed of the MVP instead of not even mentioning him at all? Jokic deserved to win, but if anyone wants to whine about somebody else being robbed, it would be Luka and only Luka. SGA should have been a distant 3rd in voting, if everyone voted based on merit instead of skin color.
@@JakeKoenig So reward Jokic and Luka for being the worst defenders on their team. White supremacist trigger words "its not about race." You just called for 2 white men worst defenders on their team, not in 1st place in either coference to be the league mvps. I couldnt ask for you to be more blatantly racist 🖕🤡
I agree. You don't tell someone 'congratulations on winning the election - although you really didn't deserve it!' Now, I think that Joker is over hyped - although he does do his thing, but for Shaq to say that was not only bold, but classless and weak. I think that if Joker had been in player in any other position, Shaq would not have cared.
No you guys are weak he's in the media instead of saying stuff and hiding face he said it like a man. Y'all just some weak men 🤷🏿♂️. IT'S HIS OPINION STOP WHINNING
Exactly. It's not about debating SGA v Jokic. it's about being classy and professional when you're presenting a guy w an award. It's v disrespectful and rude. And Jokic doesn't deserve. I'm totally cheering for the Nuggets to go on another run and make all these guys eat their words -- like last year. Honestly, I think the reason the Nuggets have crushed and embarrassed Lebron in the last two years is b/c Lebron drafted Jokic last during the all-star game. I don't completely understand Jokic's psychology, but it was SO disrespectful after the winning the MVP. ESPECIALLY as Jokic goes out of his way to be respectful to all the greats, including Lebron and Shaq. Shaq may have given Jokic the motivation he's been lacking this post-season.
@17NateJohnson, obviously, you missed the show then. Barkley announced who won and EJ asked Shaq his thoughts on it. Shaq is allowed to have an opinion and voice it. If he thinks Jokic didn't deserve to win, he should say that. He was asked how he felt about Jokic winning, so he shouldn't have to lie. Thing is, Take Jokic, Embiid, Kawhi, Luka, Shai, Tatum, abs Brunson off their respective teams this year and what team suffers the most? Look at how bad the Sixers were when Embiid went down. A year without Embiid playing, the Sixers don't even sniff the playoffs. Could you say the same for the Nuggets if Jokic didn't play?
This was Shaqs Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift moment. It was pathetic and sad. Luka had a better season than SGA and so did Jokic, the numbers speak for themselves.
All I will say is that SGA had more wins than Jokic and Luka. It seems like one year winning matters and the next year winning doesn’t or not as much. I’m still wondering why Tatum received no MVP love whatsoever!!!!
@@DarrylRascoebecause I’d the most valuable not the best player on best team if you have a better team clearly you not as valuable as someone w/ a lesser team (except when the media looked the other way for LBJs in MIA but did when he got to Cle cuz they did hold it against Steph/KD in GSW) and like the OG post said Luka got robbed but he’s Euro so the culture don’t care
Compare SGA's 2nd best teammate to The Joker & Luka's 2nd best teammate on the team. That right there gives SGA the edge over The Joker & Luka. Even if Murray is playing injured, you still gotta respect him, because he can turn into a sniper at the mid range jumper and hit a lot of 3s while being guarded as well.
So … for me, this isn’t about debating SGA v Jokic. This is about Shaq being pretty rude to Jokic on the night he won. I mean, of course guys can debate. But on the night and network that was handing out the award, it was v impolite to bring that up. Why was Shaq SO worked up. It’s sort of bizarre.
I don't think Shaq was trying to be rude, he was disclosing information that he felt Jokić was entitled to know (because Shaq wanted to know things like that when he was playing). He's literally applying the Golden Rule. The problem is that he was seemingly abused by his father (which he would probably justify), so his standards are extreme.

@neutral_10 nah, Shaq is just thinking about how the mvp award used to be decided. I remember years like when Barkley won it or David Robinson when the actual mvp statistically/objectively didn't get it because both players were having their best statistical season coupled with team success (best record in league or conference). Jokic, according to old voting patterns, shouldn't have got it SGA should have. Shaq should just accept that there is no real criteria it's switches over time.
@roberthall1818 Yes, but the Nuggets just won the chip, so it wasn't unexpected for them to have a great regular season record. OKC had an exceptional regular season record wise for them, and their best player personally had great stats. We know Jokic is by most opinions the best player in the league, but there used to be a desire amongst voters to avoid giving it to the same player every year.

Nash is white. That's why Shaq is cherry-picking him out of the 18 players who won an MVP over him during his career. Shaq would have a better argument saying he got robbed by Iverson. Lakers beat the 76ers for the title, and Shaq had arguably his best statistical season. But Iverson is black. MVP=Does not mean the best player in the league or who had the best year in the league. It means who was the most valuable player to his team and the most productive in a winning team that has made the play-offs. SGA and Luka had better stats than Jokic. SGA was the true MVP, in my view.
Shaq always overrates himself, he was nowhere near as skilled as the other best centers in history. He did not have the footwork, passing, 3 point shooting or basketball IQ that Jokic has. He was simply so big and strong that no one could guard him.
Actually you forgot to mention, he had more athleticism than other centers to go with his brute strength. Teams had to stock up on bodies for the hack a Shaq strategy.
The crazy thing is SGA had the exact same year (and even averaged MORE ppg) last year… and the Thunder finished 10th. So was SGA really more valuable over the addition of Chet this season, along with the MASSIVE jumps that both Jalen Williams and players like Lou Dort took this season? It’s just weird man the hill some people choose to die on.
Thank you. Finally someone paying attention to the Thunder. Us adding Chet and massive leaps in some of our other players is what made a lot of the difference. SGA is great, but you're right, we finished 10th last season with him averaging about the same as this season.
Chris you kinda exposed yourself because you said you give a boost to guys who don't have any all star caliber players on their team and SGA checks all those boxes but you had him second.
The real problem is they GIVE the awards to people. Which means one year you dont get it because you had another ALL NBA player on your team, another year, you were a 3 seed, another year its about who avg the most points, another year its about who had the least help. Jokic has Jamal Murray who is an elite playoff performer with multiple 50 pieces in the playoffs. Who is the all nba caliber playoff performer running with SGA? I mean, what are we talking about here? MVP award is flawed and narrative based.
Not really. With the possible exception of the Steve Nash MVPs, the other years the people who got MVPs had legitimately better years than Kobe or Shaq. Shaq had played 73 games in a season only one time after his MVP year. He often was out of shape or injured. Kobe was great, but there were legitimate questions about how much of his success was more due to teams concentrating on stopping Shaq, and less his abilities. And after they split, Kobe had good years statistically but several of those years the Lakers weren't contenders, even being awful.

The regular season MVP has nothing to do with the playoffs, which is a completely different entity. Still, MJ had a phenomenal and herculean effort and permanence, despite losing to BOS back in the '86 playoffs!
“Cancel each other out” Rob says that like the media can decide not to vote that way or with that premise in mind. The media decides the criteria but it’s never consistent. What wins someone the MVP in one year might be held against another player in another year. The award is narrative driven and once the media starts shaping the narrative for a player it’s hard to move them off of that. There needs to be a separation of the award: Media MVP and then MVP as voted on by coaches and players.
If we can have the media put an asterisk on the bubble ring, we can put an asterisk on the bubble mvp. I think 3 consecutive years is great, but to their point, negative against 50+ win teams, a pandemic shortened season, possibly knocked out of the second round and swept in 4 games.
@singerlee4446 my point is a commentary and the media. I'll give them credit but the credentials of the MVP discussion and athlete greatness isn't always specified based on every intangible skill a player has, if Jokic didn't win championships, does it really make him the most valuable player on the team? Is it the points? Rebounding? How do you make an argument on great if everyone's opinion comes down to popularity. Also, I've spoken to many who say the bubble rings shouldn't count because of the circumstances. Which is my point to your comment, some agree it's a championship ring others explain otherwise.
How's that sweep going, champ? And Denver can only beat the teams in front of them, so the "didn't beat a 50-win team" crap is a buffoon argument from buffoon humans. Also, only four MVPs in the past 25 years won a title that same year, so that's a stupid argument too.
@JakeKoenig am I champ or a buffoon? 😁😁😅😅 I see your reading comprehension isn't up there with my statement. Your response is everything I hate in modern social media sports analyst, the sky is falling, and the nuggets are definitely going to be swept in 4 games. I put in 'possibly', also, they haven't beaten any 50+ win teams in a series so far which is a criticism the very analyst on this video pointed out could be a negative to the nuggets ans jokic and his legacy as the 'best center ever'. I stand by .y point, everyone online with an opinion has their barometer of whose no one can agree on what criteria is going to be agreed on. Winning the MVP and the NBA championship. Does that attribute to overall greats? What's the argument going to be in 10 years if he doesn't win a scoring title? Rebounding title? What if he isn't all NBA for several years? What if he doesn't ever win another ring for another 7 years? You all be putting people on pedestals and getting a little too into throwing around playground insults based on your surface level research. My entire point is that it takes a lot to compete with greatness ans everyone's team or players can be assigned some kind of negative or clarification that makes a lot of rings or accomplishments become trivial based on team play, market and the type of player they are, Jokic hasn't finished his career .. I'd say pump the breaks on the nuggets based on one championship

The whole "X" player should have more MVP's is asinine. So for Shaq or Kobe to get more MVP's are you gonna take away Iverson, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett LeBron James and Dirk Nowitski's MVPs away?
Right cause if it just about Best Player then Tom Brady should have like 15 MVPs Honestly. Manning should have 1 and Rodger about 1. Instead they got it a billion percent wrong every year and gave Rodger like 10 mvps for no reason and Manning 10 for losing to Brady.
Despite being unbelievably dominant, having the 1st overall seed, and winning the chip with no competition for the '17 and '18 warriors teams. Neither KD or steph got MVP recognition in those years

The Suns were just as talented as those Heat teams, but younger. Nash only averaged 15pts & 11asts anyway on top of being a very weak defender.

Equals my ass. Wade was his superior in Miami. ESPECIALLY the year they won the title.
@@atlien1988 "The Suns were in the playoffs in 2003..."
Yeah, and promptly lost in the first round.
"...and didn't make in 2004 due to injuries..."
You mean like the kind of "injuries" that Amare Stoudemire, the Suns best all-around player, suffered in 2006, when he missed 79 games and Nash STILL led the Suns to the Western Conference Finals? Sit down. The only thing hilarious is that you think you know anything about basketball.
If the league should do anything, they should rename the award to the Most Oustanding Player
The backlash is so weird.
In what way was SGA was robbed???
He was, in no way, the obvious choice.
He was a viable choice. SGA had a solid argument.
But he wasn’t the obvious best player.
Jokic tore up the NBA last year and was snubbed.
SGA needs to make an impact in the playoffs and that will set him up for an MVP vote.
shai had the more historic season period . they just bias voting for the last year mvp that’s not fair , players get robbed that way . jokic was robbed once , and he robbed every mvp he had (giannis embiid shai) not as good as his resume say he finna get 🧹 swept , can’t carry like prime bron
Because some black players like to gate keep basketball from white players, pay attention it happens all the time 😂
Best and MVP is to different things 🤦♂️
white media say the mvp aint a playoff award wen yoke got swepp... yoke perform inda playoffs an its his award to lose
media said its about the best playa onda best team wen yoke won his 2nd mvp... moved the goal post the year befoe... media used to always say the mvp aint about who's the best player until the best player was white
The problem is every year the criteria shifts
Jordan scored 63 against Bird in a playoff game LOSS but was STILL player of the game with NO arguments...🏀🤷🏽♂️
And he lost. Actually he continued to lose until Bulls got better players and Jackson became coach.
@@greggibson33 Having the misfortune to play against a team with 5 hall of fame players on the roster isn't a knock on mj. The Celtics only lost 1 home game in 86. 1 game. And that includes the playoffs. They went 50-1 at home. That's a juggernaut right there.
It's like if someone had to play the dynasty warriors in the first round without any viable second option. A series loss is inevitable
What the heck does that have to do with MVP?
@@SuperSonic_868 I already know all that. And it wasn't a knock. It's just the facts. I'm emphazising that no one wins alone.
There's no asterisk on any championship. If that's the case we can go back and find things about many championship runs and put an asterisk.
Ain’t no sweep happening here. Chill. Im a lakers fan. But Denver prob gonna win in 7
How's that sweep going, champ?
Shaq was correct that SGA deserved to win, he just didn’t do a good job of professionally expressing his point by including his own perceived MVP slights into the conversation.
Check statistic first
There should be two awards, Most Valuable Player and Most Outstanding Player because the criteria keeps vacillating between the two definitions.
Yep. They should've started in the 50's when awards first were given. Great example: Wilt 50 ppg, 25 rbs.... no MVP.
Let's be real the voters have a bias to white brothers who can ball.
You make no sense.
Awful take.
They change it only for Joker no one else lol
@@Adrian-bn2xeOther way around lol
Shaq wasn’t even competing for MVPs against Nash while on the Lakers. Shaq was on the Heat when Nash won MVPs
Shaq just jealous jokic won 🏆 three mvp and he won only one time
Yea Shaq gets reallll jealous when his “most dominant “ monicker gets threatened
Shaq has more finals MVPs and chip
@@morgan2552tShaq played with Kobe, Wade etc, give Jokic at least half of the help Shaq had and he wins 6
Well many said that he did get robbed back then.
robbed players for every mvp (giannis embiid shai)
THATS A GOOD TAKE ROB!!!! didn't see it like that...🙌🏾🙌🏾
Shaq never got Robbed he made only One 3 pointer in his career
Shaq should have 4-5 MVP awards, Two in Orlando and Two or Three in LA. Kobe should have 3-5 as well.
Yea Jokic is really good - he isn’t a 3x MVP. He HAS to win another title to justify this. This is making the game about stats toooooo much.
He shoulda won last year so yes he’s a 3x MVP, should be a three peat too 😭
Not just stats, offensive stats only
Dude, the MVP is regular season. It has nothing to do with the Finals. Thats why you have a FMVP .
Umm.. no. Nice try though.
So Jokic has to win more finals to win MVP when the other guys who finished in the top 3 haven't won any finals?
People making fun of Shaq but he’s right, no way Steve Nash has 2 MVPs and Shaq only has 1 as a top 10 All-Time player and Nash isn’t even top 25.
Ernie: Now Shaq it seems to me you're just hating on Jokic because he stacks paper to the ceiling and rides around on 24" chrome.
Shaq and Lebron have been hurt bc during certain seasons, they would coast during the regular season - waiting to turn it on in the playoffs.
They topic about shaq LeBron rent free in your head
@@JACQUEZ23 The topic is deserved Mvp's. It's relevant b/c it's not about the best player if the best player has coasted or taken part of the season easy to prepare for the playoffs. Both Shaq and Lebron were the best players but would take parts of seasons off and then ramp up for the playoffs.
Do people actually realise how good Nash made the suns in that period? They won 62 games in 05. Now, if you want to say 06, Nash maybe was lucky with phoenix at 54 wins, that’s fair enough. Wade, Kobe, even LeBron had awesome years too. But I hate the lazy Nash arguments. He was absolutely deserving of the mvp in 2005 and a top contender in 2006.
STOPPP ITTTTT
An MVP can make Free Throws......
I can understand Rob's argument. But then, how does Murray not cancel out Joker? Just bc the media doesn't vote him as an All Star, he still plays, scores, and affects winning like an All Star. Especially in the playoffs. Plus, without Murray the Nuggets are a first round team. We've seen it.
He’s missed a lot of games from injuries during the season and has never made an all star game.
You're comparing Murray to KOBE BRYANT?? 🤣 Yep, this is the dumbest comment I've seen on the internet today. Congrats.
Murray isn't an all-star. He's NEVER been an all-star. Stop trying to pretend he's an all-star just so you can downgrade Jokic's legacy by claiming he's had more help than he's actually had. We know what you're doing with that crap.
That hit like a ton of bricks, to hear that Steve Nash had two, but, Kobe & Shaq only had one apiece. I don't pay that much attention to the awards, but, whether or not, ain't no way that Steve Nash having twice as many MVP's as either of them is any type of truthful reflection of reality.
Not entirely sure just which year Shaq didn't get it that he should have, but, yeah...that ain't right.
Jamal Murray is at worst an all star.. easily one of the best closers in the game today.. and Aaron Gordon lead a franchise for years in Orlando. STOP PRETENDING Jokic does have Co-Stars
Pretty Good players but after that they don't have a team. It's only 3 guys and everyone else is a below average NBA player. Denver doesn't have a good team. Jokic had to average 31-13-10 on 60% to barely win last season. Murray had 21-9
Jamal Murray is too inconsistent to be an all star
Even against the laker series if you isolate the 4th quarters he’s been ass
They aren't All-Stars. SMH
Cant take davids mvp ..he DOMINATED THAT YEAR . PLEASE
Thats not at all what Shaq meant. He was talking about Jokic winning his third award not past history. Totally wrong take on what was said.
What’s wrong with jokic winning it for the 3rd time,
Mvp is not a feel good award where you share it around, you vote for who you truly feel is your subjective mvp and of 131 voters select nikola jokic I guess that’s just how the cookie crumbles
Shaq proves that he is unprofessional. I hope Jokic will surpass this cry baby
The culture can’t accept that foreign players have taken over the league they thought it wouldn’t be possible if Tatum or Ant or Zion/Ja don’t come through this moaning is gonna be the norm
However, Shai is also "foreign." Perhaps he looks and sounds less so, so people forget.

Change "foreign" to WHITE and you'll be on the money. Embiid is foreign. SGA is foreign. Giannis is foreign. Wemby is foreign. Gobert is foreign. Do they get anywhere near the hate that Jokic and Luka get? Most of the people hating on Jokic right now were CAMPAIGNING for Embiid the past two years and are campaigning for SGA this year. Neither of them is American born or raised.
That xenophobia angle isn't gonna cut it anymore. Caitlin Clark has gotten more hate than anyone in basketball over the past couple years. Is SHE foreign?
Shaq in his prime was not even close to as skilled or talented as Jokic, its insane to compare the two Shaq could barely even make 50% of free throws. Shaq really got lucky to even win won, he was not even MVP of his own team let alone the league. Never once did Shaq carry or lead his team in a game.
It was way more context to that conversation than what everyone is reacting to. He didn’t say nothing wrong. He even congratulated Jokic within his argument. Y’all just trying to protect your right to vote for as long as you can. The system is extremely flawed. He stated that and his reason for feeling like SGA got robbed. He just used his robbery as an example. If it wasn’t him and instead a writer or someone other than him, it wouldn’t even be an issue.
Who wants to accept a backhanded award. Would you want to accept an award and have the presenter say in front of everyone, how somebody else deserved the award over you, as they hand you the award? Bout as backhanded as it gets. Kanye showed how cool it was to take shine away from somebody and make it about yourself
@@Stretch79 fair, but how does any of that affect Jokic or change how he feels about the award. These comment are coming from someone who doesn’t even vote and they’re are well after he has won and accepted the award. That was an announcement followed by comments and opinions from 1 human being. At most, they were presenting us as views with whom won the award. So none of that even holds up in this scenario. Now if you bust your axx all season to get voted the winner by 100 ppl why would you care that the person handing you the award disagrees.
@HemiNeutron It was tacky and out of place for an award is what it was. That's my point. You announce the award, say congratulations, let the winner say some words and then go on with the show from there. You think Shaq would have said that to ANT, JT, Luka, or anybody else other than Jokic? Just tacky and distasteful to hand out an award and tell them that somebody else deserved it instead
@@Stretch79 you forgot to add in your opinion. The fact that Ernie is the host, and shaq chuck n Kenny are literally there to give there opinion and analysis. Half the things said on any sports show these days are done and said solely to create a conversation and to keep the subject matter floating well after. Views on television and clicks on the web. Get with the program. This is entertainment, rather or not you agree.
And seeing as though you didn’t name the one person that he felt got robbed, yes I do think it would’ve been the same for any of them. It’s not about race this time joker. He felt the person he thought should’ve won was robbed. Now I do agree he needs to stop interjecting himself and his shortcomings so often though. He even said Jokic was the best big man in the league.
Actually The Joker ain't the only one ever to win a ring without any all-star teammate. The Chicago Bulls won two rings, the first in 1991 and the last in 1998, while MJ being the only All-Star on the team's roster. But nevertheless, having the same achievement like this one and being the only player, not named Michael Jordan, to do it, is HUGE
People calling it jealousy but i doubt that Shaq has zero reason to be jealous of Jokic. I think SGA was the right pick.
