    I misspeak in this video, incorrectly saying that the 1/200 infant mortality rate is 5%. It is 0.5%.

      Same here. I nearly lost my wife and daughter during childbirth due to pre-eclampsia. Maxed out on three blood pressure medicines and still hitting 190-110, and then dropping not a minute later to 90-30, and the bpm for my daughter dropped below 30. The room filled with doctors who ripped everything out of the walls and took them both out, without saying a word to me about what was happening. All I could do was sit down and focus on breathing, because I knew if I moved I'd do something I'd regret, even though it was no one's fault.

    Daughter was born a month premature. Her lungs were weak and she suffered from high levels of bilirubin. She nearly died the day after she was brought home. Wife did CPR on her and got her back. Took her to hospital where she was placed in a tank with ultraviolet light (phototherapy) in an effort to get her liver to start working. I forget how many days we stayed in the hospital. I don't try to think of those days. Today my baby girl is a D&D playing college student. • @popecj29
      @popecj29 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      The infant mortality statistics reported by countries is according to their own standards. Those standards vary greatly from nation to nation. If the world had to report using U.S.A's standards, We would be near the lowest in terms of mortality.
      China for example doesn't not consider the following circumstances as live births or count in their census data. 1. Death within 24 hours of birth 2. Miscarriages 3. Abortions (forced or otherwise).

    • @StormTheSquid
      @StormTheSquid 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

      @@popecj29people have this weird perception that America is a developed nation and thus can't have the problems of starvation, infant mortality, etc. but that's a facade. We'd probably still be awful even if everyone used the same standards.
      Edit: Also, 2 and 3 aren't live births, so they shouldn't be considered as such, regardless of whatever your political stance on the latter is.

    • @KTheStruggler
      @KTheStruggler 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@StormTheSquid the main thing is income / coverage. Infant mortality is quite low in the US if you don't count the poor people.

      @@KTheStruggler If like in other countries the USA didn't count premature babies who don't make it, the USA has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world, regardless of a person's economic status.

    • @KTheStruggler
      @KTheStruggler 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@toms7114 that's not true, there is less of a disparity when you account for nonviable births but there is still a disparity, especially in the 1 - 12 month infant range and it is very closely associated with poor socio economic status

    Different countries have different ideas of what care-giving is and who a care-giver is, but we should have no divergences on the matter.

      @dragonmagelet thank you for correcting me.
      In the video we were told 5%, hence the confusion. I'm just glad that the truth wasn't understated (and also glad it's not actually 5%)

    The infant mortality rate in the US is half a percent, not 5%. You correctly stated it as 1 in 200

      Yes, 5‰ not 5%

    • @Supremax67
      @Supremax67 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1 in 200 are pretty big odds. For instance, people plays the lottery and those odds are usually 1 in 20,000,000.

      @@Supremax67 Yeah, by no means is anybody saying that 1 in 200 is fantastic (although it's better than it has been in a lot of other time periods, or than it is in many places still). We're just clarifying that he obviously misspoke when he said 5% (which would be 1 in 20), but was correct when he clarified 1 in 200.
      1 in 200 is correct.

      @@bobertastic6541I know you mean well, but 5% of 1000 is 50 so still 5% and 1 in 20. I think you mean 5 (vs 5%)?

    My friend... your authenticity is inspiring. I have seen very few people who radiate kindness, concern, and passion the way you do. Sharing your story and using your platform to spread awareness and raise money for those less fortunate warms my heart. The world would be a better place with more people like you in it. Keep up the good fight, and much love from me to you.
    I'm happy to give what I can.

As a Ryoko backer, i am glad you have taken a step back, this is the priority. As excited as I am for the completion, I am happy you have been able to be supportive of family and it is my hope you take all the time you need in this before continuing the project.
