  • How do I calculate the flow rate (gpm) for my sump pump? In this episode of Spec. Sense, Vance explains how a sump pump works, how to choose a replacement pump, and how to maintain a sump pump.
    Without a working sump pump, your basement is at risk of flooding, but regular maintenance can help keep the pump working properly.

    Thank you so MUCH! IM 43 ANDD my mom is 80 n I have an 11 yr old. We both are widows n I am care taker. Thankfully and gratefully my father taught me the same as my brother. I am mechanically inclined and knowwledgable. I have assisted replacing these solo pumps but never done one alone. Your video helped me learn info I needed to know b4 I left house to purchase a new pump and helped me install new pump and also a tank alert and a battery back up pump instead of manuel one. VERY INFORMATIVE. If only it wasn't in a hole and in nice clear glass tank! Lol Excellent videos. Highly revommended!

    Glad I found your video! We have an 18” basin that fills with water like clockwork every 10 minutes. Most I’ve ever seen between cycles is about 20 minutes. Dry, wet, doesn’t matter. Constant water flow into the basin. Would this require a higher HP pump, our current one burned out in about a year. -also, definitely not the check valve as I can see the water empty into the ditch!

      Thanks for watching. Yes it's likely that the ground water table or drainage is different than the average home. Check to make sure that discharge pipe is positioned in a way that it won't just drain back to the foundation, this might increase how much water is accumulating. It might not be a lot of new water it could largely be some of the same water draining back.
      A larger pump can help. You might want to invest in a backup system to make sure that the sump can always run. In your case it seems like a faulty pump even for a short while would result in a flood.

    Hi Vance - Thanks for your series - I live on a sailboat and have a 2,000 gph in my engine room, and another amid ships. The head is a little over a meter & 1/2, no checkvalve between, none really needed. does the head height vary depending on the hose diameter? I'm thinking it has to. Yeah?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Tom, we're glad you're finding the series helpful! The head will differ based on the hose diameter, so its best to use the same diameter as the outlet of the sump pump if possible. At 1.5 meters you won't get too much head loss from the height alone, and without a check valve or too many 90° turns, your pump should be able to output close the max gpm.

    What's better - bottom inlet or side inlet?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Most sump basins will have a inlet pipe on the side near the top, and most sump pumps have a bottom intake which will mean it will have a lower water level after it discharges.

    What could be the cause of four sewage pumps packing up at the same time in the same sump?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. It is unlikely that 4 pumps had all 4 motors fail at the same time. It is more likely that there is an issue with the power supply to the pumps.
