My hotel experiences in Japan have been positive. I’ve had inexpensive rooms. Although small were clean, bed comfortable, and quiet. In Osaka I rented one within walking distance from my son’s new apartment. It was about $55 a night (taxes included in that price), king bed, and with that price was with a Japanese breakfast. Complimentary Instant coffee and teas in the lobby, all toiletries, and pajamas. Even a latte machine in the lobby for 100 yen. So, do not be embarrassed by a$40 room. I rented 3 nights in Kyoto . I think it was with taxes about $200, for 2 people. Again super clean comfy room, small, with 2 double beds. You should be proud to show us. Most of us would like a clean room like this one at an affordable price. This information will help us plan for future trips. (I travel for my job, lots of Hilton, Westin, Sheraton, Hyatt stays, these small rooms were very efficient,cleaner in most cases, and comfortable). Thank you again Rion. People who have a JR pass are not allowed to use Nozomi or Mizuho Shinkansen. I did ride on one of those to Fukuoka many years ago by mistake. I was wondering why the Shinkansen was so fast comparing to the ones I rode before. Also, the seat that I was assigned to was taking by other passenger. After talking to the conductor, I realized I got onto a wrong train. Luckily the conductor didn’t charge me for the difference of the ticket price, and found me an unreserved seat for me. I need to give a thumbs up to that conductor! He treated foreigners so nice and courteous!

I was able to travel in the hello kitty jet from Taiwan to Tokyo trough Eva air once- it wasn’t planned and a total surprise - it was a great experience. I rode a couple of Kodama Shinkansen in 2019. I found these trains helpful to pass time for checking into my next hotel (couldn’t check in early). I also had the JR pass, so that obviously dictated what train I used. I definitely recommend Kodama Shinkansen to everyone if you just need a restful, laid back train ride (even though most Shinkansen rides are). Thank you for your videos, Rion! I miss Japan, and you always make us feel like we’re there! Arigatooooo! GAOOO!
Me too, whenever I have to travel I can't sleep the night before which is good if I'm riding a plane because it makes me yawn a lot thus reducing pressure in my ears. I hope to travel to Japan soon and maybe try the Hello Kitty Shinkansen.

Finally Fukuoka! JR Pass users can use Hikari and Sakura trains. It’s ideal to sections your trip. If my itinerary is across Japan then I use all of Japan rail pass. But there was a time I used all of Japan for 7 days at the start and used east Japan rail pass at the end of the trip. Gotta try Rikuru cheesecake! There are so many good food in Osaka there’s not enough stomach space! We had to have Pablo when we go back so we’ll give Rikuru a try first next time. Good thing they changed your room. My problem is usually smoking room and it’s always when I stay at grand arc hanzomon in chiyoda. The view there is nice and service is good so i go back.

after i'm finished with my engineering degree I've had an ambition to get a work visa for a few years and experience a new country. I absolutely love the rules/ cultural environment of japan, I happened to be quite similar in the way I act/believe in things so it sounds like a great place to have a temporary exciting new chapter of my life. hopefully it all works out, my biggest fear is home sickness because I love my family (which is why i only want to do it temporarily) but regardless I want to step outside my comfort zone

Just depends on situation and time when deciding on Kodama or Nozomi. 2 hours is not bad so if you can use that 60 dollars for a nicer hotel then it's pretty good.
