I have met in London a few times at a friend's house where he used to live when in uk. I had the privilege of the back stage too and private mehfils. First show at the Albert Hall in 1976. Used to live in Holland but travelled just to see the show and best favourite ghazal maestro. This was my formice. He said he will sing. Just as I walked the stage away,he started this magnificent nagma. I was over the moon to see him so close. To c shukat tabla. An amazing show. Memorable

My age is 22 but recently I hear one of Mehdi Hassan gazals and now I am fond of gazals, even my family starts fighting when I plays his gazals in car, but really really awesome voice nowadays singers don't have voice to sing gazals but Hassan sahab had some gods gift❤️
My condition is as like as yours. No one of my family like gazals. When I play gazal they come to quarrel with me or reduce volume heartlessly.
For Appreciation of Ghazals one must have very Good Command and understanding of the Besutiful Language -Urdu which unfortunately people Don't possess but like Pedants claim and profess to like Ghazals.

But Medi Hassan Ghazal still will be here and people will be appreciated .He will remember Mogul e Azam of Ghazal . King of Ghazal who can't be replaceable. Like Kohinoor. I wish he lived100 plus yr. Show what the Ghazal means to a new singer. Rug Darbari ,Rug Zunpori n other Rug. With his Ghazal . He is God gifted voice . He came to the earth to sing only Ghazal . I did attend his live concert in Jhunjhunu in 1978. I remember that he donated the entire collection of the concert for road construction to his ancestral village near Jhunjhunu.

I used to listen the masterpieces of ustad mehdi hasan 30 yrs back in my father's transistor from Bangladesh. Amazing now i can listen him unlimited. Thnx utube.
Its not just the angelic voice of the maestro and his careful selection of the raags to sing those ghazals , obviously he is par excellence in this regard, but one has to pay tribute to those clossal poets as well who created such kind of poetry in a beautiful language which blended perfectly to be sung artfully. Hats off to Fraz , Faiz, Perveen and those who wrote those master pieces . without having excellent poetry , singing alone cant do anything as far as urdu is concerned .

I first heard it around 40 years back and it was a love at first sight. I rendered it for my fiance 34 years back when I got engaged with her and she asked me to render one Ghazal for her. I'm in mid 20 and I don’t know why Ghazals are so indulging and soothing. Used to listen pop/ classical but since last few years Jagjit Singh ji has taken over my music taste. Mehdi Hasan and Jagjit Singh will always be there no matter what. Often have to fight with family members for playing these "old songs" as they say.
