In this episode I showcase new to me yarns from ICE yarns! I may have a new favourite for quality and price point.

Hi Gary! Love the new color of Rockstar. The alpaca ones you showed at the beginning look interesting. I wonder how they'll work up. I think you'll really enjoy the hand dyed yarns. They're gorgeous.
The Chestnut, Dark Taupe and Wild Dove colors are beautiful together! I also like the silk merino. You have some lovely yarn there.

I love the hand dyed merino ext! You can certainly use the blue for a "pop" but the gray and browns look gorgeous together too! Can't wait to see what they will grow up to be! And I am weird,....I LOVE the crinkle noises! hahahah
LOL! No you are not weird for liking the crinkle of the plastic. Actually I'm indifferent to the sound.
Those browns look good with Princess Blue but the brown & grey are also great but I like the blue & grey together also. Looks like those yarns & wish I was making an Ice Yarn order but have to wait for now. Your shipping & brokerage fees were lower than I remember paying. Good deal.
Hi Judy - perhaps the secret for the brokerage fees is to make it worth it by purchasing enough yarn in the one go. One of the last videos I watched you were going on a yarn *diet* and I think I might have to do the same too. Just for a little while - as I have around 50 yarns I have queued up to use!

hi. try it. read carefully and take your time. its best for me to shop with a project in mind otherwise i'd go broke. the shipping is high but you amortize it for the skeins you get and its not terribly expensive at all. most often still cheaper than american stores.
That is some great advice and a good way to in corporate the shipping into the discounted yarn price.

I can't help but wonder if that "rock star" is mislabeled, I'm used to it looking like a shiny almost metallic.
That merino/silk could be overdyed too!! Not to mention an amazing price!

LOL! Patti I loved the part where you tell yourself - "Don't do it" - that's very much like me. I have this little habit to fill a cart up and then strip it back to nothing, wait a few days and fill it up again. Sometimes I escape the "Purchase" button and other times I don't... LOL!
I know what you are meaning about the cedar blocks. I found a place where I purchased cedar scented pouches and they smell divine!

I made the mistake of looking at the Hand Dyed Merino... I love the greens. I really shouldn't buy any more yarn, but those greens. 😍

Hey Gary, nice haul! I like the hanks as I am moving away from acrylic. As for the fees, I can’t get around them either. When I order from Hobbii it comes regular Canada Post and I usually have to pay around $30 in customs fees so basically when I decide to buy in Europe, I get a lot of yarn and it needs to be a great sale. I have family in the USA that I can ship to if I do Little Knits and pick it up there when I go visit and bring it back myself…
I hear you on buying from Europe when it comes to customs (or added brokerage fees).
You're so lucky to have family you regularly visit in the States to collect all those US yummy yarns they sell. I agree with you that one of my go-to US stores would be Little Knits!

Loved the first yarn you pulled out the purple pink one and the princess Blue on. You need to speak with Angela from "My precious yarnery " She is from Canada and has been getting Ice yarns for awhile, she may be able to help you with getting the yarn shipped a different way? It would not hurt to ask her. Love your Videos.

The last ICE yarn I purchased was the Picasso pastel rainbow, as Crystal has shown many times , on Bag O Day crochet. I used it In my submission project challenge event, as a pinwheel accent . Today In Your video, I love the taupe and gray best ❤

Great choices for your favourites - they are also my new favourites as well.
Makes me want to buy more yarn. I have avoided Ice for awhile because of shipping, but that lace weight merino/silk is calling to me. And the other merino ex find.
The merino/silk is one of my new favourites from ICE Yarns, but I understand the shipping make is difficult to hit that button.
I've bought from Ice Yarns, and I found that same thing. The fingering is like a lace weight.
It's a mystery with how ICE Yarns grades their yarn weight at times.
Oh, I like the Princess Blue, I may just have to order some...

Beautiful yarns Gary, my favourite would be the very first yarn the feliz purple tones ( gorgeous), the taupes & grey go well together but I think the princess blue would pop among the taupes also, loved the scenery at the start of this video real serene looking, the orange lilies remind me of the ones my husband bought me years ago, I had them for many years loved the colour ❤❤❤❤
Hello Lori - Thank you for commenting on the intro and exit video clips. Strangely I get such a kick out of those additional memories. The intro was a beach called Miracle Beach - a really sweet little boat launch and small boating habour.

hiya gary! nice haul you have. i received my ice order yesterday and im going to start the secret yarnery's (christa) frankly circles this weekend. so excited! i chose a similar color way to hers. yes, choose another 2wt to go with the neutral - i love doing that. the blue and brown hanks are spectacular together. hugs to you and chad!

Anthracite is a kind of coal CO AL. So the color is probably the color of Coal The only reason I notice I was raised with coal heat.

Would it be cheaper to have someone in the US to purchase it for you then send it via US post and send it to Canada? Great yarn!!!
Hi Stacy - I'm not sure if the US would also get *Dinged* for brokerage fees when an ICE Yarns pack come into the States via FedEx? Then there would be the expense of shipping it through the postal service across into Canada. It may work out to be more expensive. However, that would be a work around.
All of it was just gorgeous as usual. I would love to order from ice yarns .but im going to wait till after Christmas so i can use up my stash. Thank you Gary for sharing

I have to agree with you about shopping carefully. I do need to read every detail on the yarn (to confirm the correct yarn weight by cross referencing how many grams v's the total length).
Such lovely yarn 😁 makes me want to order from ice again 😁

It's hard for me to buy ice yarns because of the payment method.. and customs here are a rip off. I don't like fedex

The shipping and brokerage fees weren't too bad, Gary. I recently bought 2 items from the US, worth about $250 Canadian and i paid over$50US on shipping and $65Cdn on brokerage and duties.

Hi Valerie - I am so sad when it comes to brokerage fees from private third party couriers. I only do it once in a while if it's yarn I know for sure I cannot get anywhere else. There are some resellers of ICE Yarns in Canada to made it easier to purchase.
@@urbanyarn my last purchase was non-yarny however I couldn't get it (a gift for our daughter) here in Canada. I was thrilled with many of my US purchases from Little Knits and Love Crafts however I can't justify it anymore even with their amazing sale prices. It takes a while longer to find some deals here in Canada and I've found quite a few indy dyers that really appeal to me. I guess FOMO can get the better of us some time. Thanks.

Said they didn't receive payment, yet I get a confirmation saying I'd ordered. I must be getting senior brain lol. Hi Gary! I’m not too far away in Kent Washington right outside of Seattle! We went to Issaquah today to a wonderful little yarn shop called The Nifty Knitter! Yesterday I went to one in Auburn WA called The Little Knitter! I’m going to downtown Seattle on Monday for more yarn shopping! 💗🧶 I’m loving the chestnut, taupe and wild dove! Just gorgeous! I received a shipment from Ice this week. I couldn't believe the prices. I love the yarn, but I started a new project and I did notice the varying thickness. Sometimes very thin. I do love the colors and will finish the project. Will definitely order from them again.

I can see myself going back for the Merino Extra Fine hand-dyed (and seeing when the other collection is back up for purchasing). I found a great pairing yarn I can use with the Alpaca/Wool/Acrylic blend and that's Rosetto yarn...Hmmm!
@@urbanyarn I've been working on an afghan and using the Picasso yarn. The more I work with this the more disenchanted I am. Thickness variance is really bad and it splits easily. Many places where the strands have been joined there is a large lump in the strand. I love the colors but not certain I would buy this again. I hope the other types I purchased are not the same. I would love to do something in cashmere. What can you tell me about it? Is it easy to work with, etc. Is the Rosetto from Ice?

Hello there - ICE Yarns' website can be a bit difficult to navigate. After a few minutes (20mins) you get a better understanding of how to use it and read the cost prices (per unit v's per package).

Hi Gary have you ordered anything from Hobbii lately? I'm having trouble putting an order in. When I get to the shipping it won't let me put Canada in. Have you had that problem?
Hello Sharon - I've not experienced that problem before with Hobbii. I haven't ordered anything for a while from them. Perhaps it might be the site is set on "what country you are from" might be set to USA?
@@urbanyarn hi Gary got it figured out at the very bottom there is a thing that looks like a flag I clicked on that and it came up Lithuania so I clicked on it and clicked on Canada and everything was okay. This is a fantastic way to sample before purchasing a pack. Is the Yarn Snob Gia? I think I did the same thing for my 2nd purchase of ICE Yarns.

@@urbanyarn So here’s something funny . . .My son just returned from deployment last Thursday and his dear girlfriend asked if I would knit her some socks. Since I’m a sock knitter now I was happy to! When I asked what color she wanted she said purple. . .guess who hard to go shopping for purple! I had no purple in my stash! Rose would be ashamed of me!
