Instead of rinsing them for a long time I just have a bowl of water with a frozen bottle in the center or some ice to keep it cold . It works and you'll save water, and you can give the water to the plants or trees after you're done with it. Thank you for the recipe:)
I just made these today and love them! I love that your channel has so many traditional comfort foods, and you make the recipes so simple and easy to follow!
I'm so glad I know this exists because once my friend was eating her lunch and her egg was dark brown and i was like "what is that?" and she said it was just an egg... i felt so stupid but now i know that it was probably a soy sauce egg
I'm super glad I found your page. I have some Chinese relatives who prepare these eggs, so I crave them occasionally. You are the real MVP when it comes to Taiwanese/ Chinese dishes. Thanks, Angel !
Here's a delicious (totally *non*-traditional) variation on these eggs: Reserve all the sauce they were cooked and cooled in, and when the eggs and sauce are both fully cooled, add white vinegar to the sauce (3 parts sauce to 2 parts vinegar). Pour it over the eggs... that you've packed loosely in a jar (or jars). Close the jar(s) with lid(s) and let sit in the refrigerator for a week. Best to eat the result at room temp, so pull enough eggs from the jar(s) and let them stand in a covered bowl on the counter for an hour. :-)
I made these eggs (recipe from video) and loved them. I pickled the leftover eggs like you suggested. I hope they turn out as good. Thanks for the suggestion
i remember these from my childhood in Taiwan, before we came to the US. my favorites were the soy sauce eggs, the zong zi (or whatever they were called then), gai bao, and as simple as they were, the egg and baloney sandwiches from a shop my mother shopped at on the way to the bus lol
I like this. very easy to understand and very light. thank you for sharing Angel, I have always wondered how to make this. looking forward to a ramen lunch!
Just made some to eat with your lunch-to-go ramen kit...SO GOOD!!! Super excited to try with other foods. First time I've had it, and definitely going to make more for myself :)
I do the Japanese version, it's kinda the same way but I only boil the eggs for 6,5 min and then put them into really cold water! The yellow part is going to be mushy inside. Then the submerge eggs into the cold soya mixture =) They are ready after just couple of h of soaking =)
oh man i made these tonight and I love them!! they are soo yummy i tried to save a few for my lunch tomorrow but I ate them all lol. I love your recipes they are always so yummy. Ill be making your 3 cup chicken tomorrow night im sure its going to be great
Angel! I am SO glad I found your channel! Thank you so much for posting the authentic, amazing recipes! Two things: 1) Do you know how to make a traditional eggs and tomato dish? It's just eggs, tomato, a little garlic, and is garnished with a little green onions - cooked to a piping hot, wet consistency.... I used to eat it all the time in Taipei, but cannot seem to get it just right when trying to recreate it. 2) You have, without question, the most relaxing voice I have ever heard. You should consider a "bed-time" stories channel! :)
Just tried this recipe, I'm gonna let them cool in the fridge overnight before I eat them. I'm kinda afraid I overcooked them though because of the hot marinade, but we shall see! Thanks for sharing =D
It look so good, love to try this recipe :) Angle wondering if you can do other Taiwanese recipe video, I heard the beef noddle soup and chicken is a popular street food in Taiwan, love to learn to make some Taiwanese street foods :) Thank you.
I am new to your channel and this looks yummy! I can't wait to try it as well as your other recipe. By the way, I really enjoy your presentation. Thank you, Angel!
My father used to make this for me and my siblings when he was home. And luckily a small covinience store in front of our school was selling this one so after school we buy can buy it.
Thank you Angel Lady hopefully I can make the same thing but when my own spin on it also I would like to say this you got to have more enthusiasm with teaching others even if it's cooking for your self with that said thank you Angel Lady cook 😉😁
Hi! I discovered your cooking channel a couple of months ago thanks to Buzzfeed. And I love it. It's fantastic! It covers a bunch of asian recipes that aren't so easy to find if you don't share some cultural background. Now the next thing I'm gonna say it's just in case nobody has ever pointed it out to you before, and has absolutely nothing to do with your talent or your recipes, ok? ^^;; I just think you waste too much fresh/ tap water when you cook. I mean look at this video while you're peeling the eggs. If you could gather all that water you're using you'll see you're throwing down the drain several buckets of perfectly clean water. So do keep cooking and making awesome videos but please mind the amount of water you use. Not for me, or for you so much, but for your kids or nephews. The little ones that will inherit this planet. We’re all borrowing (resources) from them, from their future. Thank you and may you keep being blessed. :) Humbly, - Karen.
8 wings (cut into flats and drums, cut off extra skin, rinse chicken) 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 cups water for sweeter (2.5 for less sweet) 4 tbsp sugar if Braggs 1/4 tsp 5 spice powder Low heat 40 mins 15 mins for eggs. Move them around
How much table sugar is equivalent to "five pieces" of rock sugar? I just bought a box of rock sugar and there are big chunks in there. If I had a tablespoon measurement or whatever it would be easier. No tea in the mixture? O.o
Can someone tell me if I don't have rock sugar what would be the amount of table sugar to use? She doesn't say. Also, the amount of five Spice you would use. Thank you to whomever can answer
Know, Survive & live a commenter down below named Camille Moniz said they used 4 tablespoons of sugar and it worked for them. Also, Angel's recipe says 1/4 teaspoon of five spice powder is what she used. Hope that helps.
These look amazing, and I would bet they are so much tastier than my mom's plain boild eggs! Lol thank you for sharing it can't wait to try these :-) I wonder how deviled eggs made this way would be?
Yes you can! You can make beef stew (but add more vinegar to make it not sweet, since she used loads of sugar), add some mushrooms and oyster sauce too :) Or you can make any kind of braising sauce for anything else.
+Lalaine Acacio You should be able to buy the five spice powder in any supermarket in the spice aisle. It's called Chinese 5 spice powder. Whatever you do don't over spice with it as it's very aromatic and can take over a dish. Michelle
6 eggs
1/2 cup soy sauce
4 tablespoon sugar
1/4 tsp five spice poweder
THANK YOU!
Plus 2.5 cups of water
Dark or light soy sauce?
made these two nights ago. If you want specifics if you dont have rock sugar i did about 4 tablespoons of table sugar and that did the trick
that seems like way too much sugar
Oliver Golding I thought the same thing but soy sauce is incredibly salty so I ended up putting the same amount..
Thanks for the tip
What spice is that?

awww, thanks for the kind words 😘
I found a similar recipe in a cookbook but didn't really understand how the actual cooking went. This video really helped!

@@johnellis4129 how are they coming along
@@tramarthomas6105 The stewed eggs were very good however I did not care for the pickled ones. I seem to like them while they are still fresh and hot.

Yesss, I had these in hong kong... changed my life : )
Aloha! I love these eggs. I usually had to go to a Taiwanese restaurant to get along with minced pork on rice. They pair deliciously.

I cant even imagine having Angel for a wife. she and her food are pure heaven. lucky man. and lucky us for such nice delicate vids.
Great video. Can I use the soy marinate after removing the eggs for other cooking?
I'm here cause I just spent 10 dollars on a dozen eggs and I'm gotta make sure I treat them like the delicacy they've now become
Any suggestions on what to do with the leftover sauce one we eat all the eggs? hehe
nice video but you can shake the boiled eggs in a jar and the shells will come right off. :)
Tried this at a Japanese restaurant in Uganda omg. I had to come on here and learn how to make them myself
Mmmmm,these are super good
I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
that so does look super yummy!

Any way this can be made for bodybuilding? Like use low sodium soy sauce and maybe honey for the sugar?
Thank you 🙏
Can you keep the remaining soy sauce aside/stored to use again?
Yes! I freeze my sauce in cube trays.

Zoe Cornell You're welcome! It would be interesting to try deviled eggs with this. ;)
What ingredients the spicy powder please?
Does anyone know exactly how long the eggs last in the fridge if i put them in a mason jar or something with an air tight lid.
2 days
What if I don’t have 5 spice powder what can I use?
How much sugar do you use to substitute rick sugar
you can substitute with 3-4 tablespoons of sugar - it doesn't need to be exact.
woah the eggs got back to their shells!
Im curious, could you store these in a jar like pickled eggs? I feeel like they could keep for longer that way.
+BunnaySango I suppose you could leave them in the soy sauce mixture in the fridge, but if you leave it too long it might get too salty.
+Angel Wong's Kitchen Good point :P. These are so so SOOOOO GOOD by the way :D
Could you put this is ramen?
Yup check out her ramen video

Is it ok If I don't add sugar ?
Ty:)

What is 5spice powder
I was not able to find 5 spice, what can i use instead?
+Kayla Leary find what he five spices are and add those i uess
It is optional and you can find it at any Chinese supermarket
Five Spice Powder is a blend of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, star anise, and Szechwan peppercorns.
the soy sauce is salty or sweet?
How much water needs to be wasted for one egg?
Can you use brown sugar instead of rock candy or white sugar?
Tony Dunne I recommend using white sugar if you don't have rock candy. But you can also use brown sugar too if you're in a pinch.
+Angel Wong's Kitchen Hi, I just have a question relating to using white sugar. How many teaspoons of white sugar should i use? thanks
+Angel Wong's Kitchen if you substitute the rock sugar for regular sugar, how much do you use?
How long do you boil the soy sauce for
Until the sugar melts

Can I use brown sugar? Or must it be white sugar?
SweetWetHotHoney Brown sugar is okay too.
Angel Wong's Kitchen Thank you! I tried your recipe, and I must say it came out good. This is a recipe I will continue to use.
Can i use sugar cubes instead of rock sugar?
Yes!
Yay
Thanks for making a video on this

Were you born in Taiwan?
These slap.
How much sugar?
I would also like to know this.
Kelsie Roach Elbert Chan If you have rock sugar, aim for 3-5 pieces. Otherwise you can use about 1.5 tablespoons of regular sugar.
You're so pretty 😻
Lucky for you you happen to have eggs in your fridge as if it’s rare to have eggs in the fridge. 🤣🤣🤣
cannot see the egg yolk...
They are better soft-boiled imo.
You don’t show the finished product!
Marry me... Lol
