This is so cool. She is like a direct connection to Fender's entire history. Her teacher was a Leo Fender hire, and now hopefully she passes on her expertise to the next generation and we'll have that thread continue.

I just received my Stratocaster from the Mod Shop w/Fat 50's. I thought my unique body type may have been the most well liked feature. Wrong, I love the tone. WOW. All of that tone with a mahogany body, natural finish, and a roasted maple neck. Black pick guard.

I have owned many generations of American Standard Stratocasters and the first gen Professional Stratocaster. While the pickups are consistently great, and V-Mod pickups particularly sweet sounding, Custom Shop Fat 50's are my favorite Strat pickups. They are articulate, dynamic and have a clear vintage flavor.

Great to know that my favorite strat pickups are made by a cool person to boot.
The first time I played a set of fat 50s in the 4 position, I said “yup...” and that was that. They’re in all my performing and recording strats now. People can crow about Lindy’s pickups, Bareknuckle, Suhr...I’ve played them all and they’re all great. But the fat 50s are only set that ever made me go “yup...” after the first chord with that chewy, recognizable, easy to dial in sound.

I'm in love with these pickups and with Josefina's passion as well as with Abigail's history and mastery with Fender. However I do have a couple of questions because I work for minimum wage and buying a set of these pickups will require lots of planning and time on my part.
First question is why are they considered hand wound when clearly the winder machine is doing all the spinning and Josefina is just feeding the wire? Please pardon my ignorance beforehand.
Second question: What does Josefina do when she's not spinning custom shop Fat 50'S ? Wouldn't she be spinning other, regular pickups? So depending on how many shifts they have over at the Fender Factory, aren't the chances pretty high that Josefina spins the rest of the pickups as well? Unless she's just a part timer, which I doubt, it would make sense that she's a big part of regular stock pickup production when not spinning fat 50's.
So again, i apologize in advance if i sound ignorant. I have nothing but admiration for Josefina and Abigail. They are national treasures. Both of them, and hope that Fender pays them accordingly. My mother is around Josefina's age and she works in a pharmaceutical factory, and chances are that she has made generic pain medicine that you or a loved one of yours has taken. I too work in a dairy plant, and if you are in NYC or New Jersey, you have drank the milk that I helped bring to your table.
