      Dawn Wayfinder People tend to talk in a higher pitch as a result of talking faster, and people talk slower when they're talking to strangers, because they're weighing their words more carefully. That's just my guess anyway.
      Another question is why we talk in such a high pitch when we're talking to babies or animals. I wonder if there's an evolutionary purpose, or if we're just imitating behavior we've seen in others.

    I was asking my husband this question on holiday a couple of weeks ago! According to the bottle, the water I was drinking had fell as rain 5000 years ago and had been filtered through rocks etc and yet it had a best before date of Dec 2016! I was intrigued to say the least and now I know!

    I reckon most of what I taste in the water from leaving it standing overnight is dust because when I put a tissue over it I don't get the odd taste.

    • @chrisquick7160
      @chrisquick7160 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think some of it is also because the trace chlorine evaporates off overnight as well. But the dust thing makes sense as well.

    Why do so many people say they like the "taste" of cold water better than warm water? Is it just psychological?

    • @StreakyBaconMan
      @StreakyBaconMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My guess is that you taste cold things less than you taste warm things and they don't like the taste of water period, so they like the water that tastes less (ie cold water).
      I don't know for sure this is the explanation but I remember reading something a while back about how hot food/drink triggers stronger taste response from your taste buds, and it mentioned as examples that drinking your favorite iced cream warm and melted is sickly sweet while drinking your favorite beer warm tastes far more bitter than served cold. It also used as examples for people using heat to enhance flavor things like coffee, tea which people heat to enhance the bitterness, and hot chocolate which people heat to enhance the sweetness. It almost seems obvious in hindsight - hot stuff tastes more than cold stuff, and that's why those cold leftovers don't taste nearly as good as if it was warmed up to the point you can taste it more.

    I wonder if the main problem about bottled water is being exposed to direct sun light, why isn't out there a black bottle? Or with some material/color that diminishes the light comming through?
    Of course there is the marketing side of the question, transparent means purity, but.. water could have nice designs too!

    The expiration date on the water bottle is actually for the plastic becuase it decays over a long period of time, or will start to (most is usually about 2 years from the time you bought it), but not the water it self

    There law in New Jersey stated that all food products must have an expiration date on the label, and that the date could not be more than two years from the day it was packaged. So it applied to bottled water, but no one was really thinking about the water when they wrote the law.

    I have a 2 gallon jug that I keep next to my desk and drink from (by pouring it into a cup), since I'm lazy and it's easier to fill up a jug every few days than to fill a cup or water bottle every few hours. I refill it with water from the tap.
    Could this be a bad thing to do? Am I exposing myself to harmful bacteria by keeping water within the same jug for what's now been about a year?

    I would love it if DNEWS could expand upon this topic especially regarding chemicals from a plastic bottle that can get into the water. I don't drink bottled water for many reasons including my concern over what chemicals from the bottle get into the water. Literally every single (plastic) bottle of water that I've frank has had some type of plastic - like smell and/or taste to it regardless of how new or old the bottle is. I hope DNEWS can look into this further and examine all the chemicals that come from plastic bottles. Thank you.

    Well it can turn 'bad' to drink in some cases. Water can go through a process called stagnation and become toxic with bacteria.
    Every week I de-chlorinate my drinking water from the tap. I fill a 5 gallon, sterile bucket and let it sit 24 hours before drinking. I keep it covered by a cloth, so the gases can escape. I also store the bucket in a cool, dark place and after a week it's still okay to drink, but that's just when some algae can be seen at the bottom.

    Why I do not drink water(I am talking about weeks, such as holiday) and I don't feel thirsty? My cousin and my mom do not hydrate themselves much especially my mom which do not drink water like me.

    I filled empty soda bottle with water while on long trip. I had other things to drink first and I didn't need to drink the water during the trip. Bottle was left in my backpack and week later when I came home there was something green moss like stuff in the bottle.

    When explaining that shellfish need carbonate, not bicarbonate, you showed a crab, which is a crustacean, not a mollusk. In our common language, we refer to both as "shellfish", but they are radically different. The shells of mollusks are the ones made of calcium carbonate; the shells of crustaceans are dominantly chitin, with calcium carbonate as a secondary component in some crustacean shells. Shrimp shells, I suspect, have little if any calcium carbonate, and their shells are not comparable to those of mollusks such as clams and oysters, but they're still called "shell fish".
