I think you guys hit the nail on the head that humility is key. An idea that is true and worth defending should inspire confidence. Good and true ideas don’t make you quick to anger. If you know they are true you rest in the truth. I find when people respond with vitriol to an ideal it is usually because they don’t have a good defense against it or it is an entirely emotional response in place of rational or factual. I work with a bunch of salty firemen and I think if everyone debated each other like we do at the kitchen table, the world would be operating at a far greater success rate.
