      @mannie7028 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

Exactly!! Can I add all utilities to that please ... water, gas etc where huge dividends and ceo bonuses are more important than quality of service, ie investment in infrastructure. This is why utilities should never be privatised. Maggie underestimated the power of greed, ie shareholders refusing to lose their short high dividends for a longer view. None of our utilities are British owned now. All the cash goes abroad. Our economy therefore shrinks further.

Almost no 16/17 year olds will be paying tax as you stay in education until you are 18 surely? Then they go to uni and take a gap year so most haven’t really worked until they are 22, in past years you routinely left school at 15/16 but couldn’t vote until you were 21. If anything the voting age should rise to 25.

On the issue of 16 and 17 yr olds, they are not allowed to buy tobacco or alcohol. The issue ought to be simple enough and that is left wing parties realise kids of those ages are more likely to be on their side because they've no life experience. I am all in favour of changing the voting age though - I'd raise it to 40 and restrict it to British born and for the rest, well you have to have been here and working, paying taxes for at least twenty years. But that wouldn;t suit the left.

Now I will never vote Labour again, not because I'm over 60 but because you can't trust Labour to look after the wellbeing and interests of its citizens anymore . And I'm terrified for my grandkids' future under a labour government

I can only comment from my own situation as it now.
I became a full time unpaid carer for my father and moved into his mortgage free home .
My dad didn't ask for rent or utility costs.
    That was 12 years ago.
He passed away aged 92 two years ago and his estate went through probate where tax was taken.
I have been informed by the executors of his will that i will receive circa £100k but I must find another home.
A lot of money but I've just turned 66 don't qualify for a full state pension and £100K is just enough for me to rent a room in someone's home.
While I regret nothing and I am single with no dependants and reasonably well, I do wonder if economic wealth growth based on property values has created impossible situations for people such as myself and since I had predicted this scenario for me years ago then why in Gods name did economists not see it , or maybe they did and it's just another game of life.

At 8:55 Candice makes a very valid observation, in general many 16 and 17 year olds are less responsible and less mature than they were a decade or so ago.
Sadly this is largely the result of their parents who wrapped their kids up in cotton wool, drive them to school, etc. so they lack the development of common sense, spatial awareness, social awareness and thus social their development is on a much slower curve than previous generations.
This has always been a trait of 16 and 17 years olds as they enter the work place, but ordinarily as they interact with their peers at work they soon start to mature and their decision making and coping mechanisms increase.
Another factor that has resulted in their social and political awareness being slow to develop, compared to others over the past decade or so. Is in part due to the way, how and what they are taught in school.
Their immaturity aside, just look at the current generations of the electorate and the volume that do turn out to vote. Many of them base their voting decision on the way their parents do or did vote.
In comparison, their political indoctrination by their parents/friends is no worse in terms of impact, than what would result from an influx of immature voters.
When all that is said and done, 16 and 17 year olds do pay tax, most obtain gainful employment, many produce offspring at that age (or earlier), and find issues with local authorities. Therefore, they will be affected directly by political policy, and therefore, they should be allowed to vote.
Given the increased in engagement that Reform UK has fostered with the younger generation, it is unlikely that Labour will change the voting age.

So many teenagers, eslecially boys, are disillusioned in schools that would be better served learning joinery, plumbing etc. And theyre more likely to never be out of work.
