The roar of the crowd says everything. Lennon, Reed, Bowie. Those 3 music icons are deeply missed by me and are connected through Bowie. Reed's landmark Transformer album made with Bowie. Fame was Bowie/Lennon. I have loved Lou since 73 when I was 13 and that performance there is incredible. You dont get given the nickname "The King Of New York" for nothing and he sure showed why right there.

Lou takes this song to a whole new level. Brilliant interpretation. Lou didn't do many covers but for another great one see/hear "Foot of Pride" written by Dylan.

The range of emotions in this performance is mind blowing.. contrite, angry, soft, and then threatening all at once. Magnificent.

Maybe because he publicly acknowledged that the BEatles was not a good band??

LOu Reed was the same guy that said that he never considered The Beatles a good band, he even despised them ... So I wonder...what the hell is he doing up there .... destroying one of the best Lennon's songs??? This world is fucked up ..... Whoever decided this man to sing this song .....did a great disservice to Lennon's legacy .....

sukie584 how could you like Lennon and not the Beatles? Only a man like him can be so contradictory and out of focus...

solo Lennon is very different than Beatles Lennon. But you have to remember the VU and The Beatles existed at a parallel time. You're looking at them as THE BEATLES and he just knew The Beatles. Not everyone loved them. And yes he is contradictory.. some artists just say things to be contrary..He was also a young man when he said the negative comments and grown man at this tribute.

Allow me to disagree, Led Zeppelin is very different from the Beatles, John Lennon is not. A good percentage of the Beatles songs were Lennon's. How Could Lennon solo music be that different from the Beatles??? Lou Reed is an arrogant prick that used to trash the Beatles. I believe Lou Reed's music has zero value, and his contribution to music is null compared to the Beatles legacy. He should learn to shut up his mouth and learn some respect and class. I only wish Reed didn't destroy Lennon's music with his monstrous voice. He should stick to his own music.

Why don't you think in your own way you just don't like it for what he said you have to get a own judgment to hear music
