    Hiya friends! I’m surprised you guys are still watching this vid. I made another video explaining how to write a Psych FRQ, and I assure you my quality has massively improved lol.

    So to summarize:
    - Evaluate your situation (Don't self study if you're already crammed with stuff like extra curriculars)
    - Start later than you think! (The portion can be studied for in 1-2 months too, but the earliest you should start is Nov-Dec, and put in around 30 mins a day)
    - Get a review book, not a textbook. (Best review book brands: Princeton Review, Barron's, 5 Steps to a 5)
    - Read and go through the entire book, and make lots of notes! (Esp. the biology part, the schools of thought, the different psychologists)
    - Watch TH-cam videos online for topics you have doubts in. (Recommended: CrashCourse, but don't use it as your only resource)
    - Every time you finish a unit, take a correlating quiz, and go over what you got wrong. Repeat till you get it right. *really important*
    - Once you've gone through the review book and taken the respective unit quizzes, do a quizlet of all the topics (Quizlet in description, repeatedly go over it)
    - Do past released FRQs and get lots of practice, time yourself, because you only get 50 minutes on the exam
    - Check the scoring guidelines for FRQs to see what is expected
    - Do practice tests, as many as you can. They will give you an approximation of how well you'll do on the actual exam.
    - Continually go through the material whenever you can. Spaced repetition!

      Arobed Unam Hmm I’m not sure what you mean by warm-ups, however for the approaches I recommend looking up explanations on TH-cam and getting some clear examples! Also, memorize what each approach is asking for, and that will help you a lot on the test. A helpful infographic is this:

Right now I’m in Gr 10 in a Canadian high school, and I would love to gave the challenge of an AP class next semester (starting Feb) My question is, how can I make sure I understand and know the content well, since I don’t have a teacher? Do you think 3 months is enough time to prepare, and how much time should I dedicate? Thanks a lot! 💜

    • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Practice exams are the best way to check your progress, they’re super accurate to what you’ll get on the normal exam (you can find them in prep books). 3 months is def enough, if anything I did it in less than a month. It just depends on your pace so maybe try out a unit and see how long it takes you!!

    • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      definitely! i would only recommend getting the new princeton review if the exam has changed (ap exams normally update every few years), but that isn't the case for psych this year. 2019 is totally fine, and you can use earlier versions than that too. the only recent change i can think of is that hypnosis was removed from the curriculum, so you can ignore that if it comes up. otherwise, everything is the same. i hope this helps!

      @@megzcreates Amazing, thank you so much! Since it's the 2015 version, will is still work for me? I'll be self studying as a freshman. And another question: Is the Princeton better or Barron's? I'm having an internal struggle with that decision. But since the Barron's in online, I MIGHT just go with the Princeton's. What do you think?

    • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Taara Yes you should be fine. The only thing I can think that is different with the 2015 version is that it covers hypnosis, which isn’t in the exam anymore. Also, the exam is omitting social psychology and disorders this year bc of coronavirus and thats covered in the book too. Besides that the course hasn’t undergone major changes.
      I will say Barron’s is more written in a textbook format than PR (which is a little more conversational and easy to read, and after self studying for hours sometimes you need a little chuckle haha). A lot of my friends prefer Barron’s just because of how thorough it is, and the practice tests can even be harder than the actual exam. Both will be able to prepare you just fine, it ultimately depends on what you value more!

    i’m planning to self study ap bio, ap human geography, but i’m probably most terrified for ap psych. Any excess tips on how to go by simply passing? (I’m currently in the seventh grade, yes it may sound insane but it’s fine)

    • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a y a n c a l i g a c a l Hey first I would check to see if you can take the exam - I know some 8th graders who have, but never 7th grade. As for psych, most of my tips are already in the video but others I would suggest is if you can get in contact with the ap psych teacher at your high school, they really helped me for things I still couldn’t get no matter how much I read. If you dont have access to that, r/apstudents on reddit is also helpful as you will have access to a large community :) Additionally, make sure you budget out your time correctly. AP Bio is no joke, and self studying is not only tedious for that but might be tricky with labs and frqs. Human Geo and Psych are both easier, but still, self studying three aps is a lot to take on yourself, especially when you’ve never taken an AP course. If anything I would wait until you have a feel for the AP curriculum in hs and go from there, but ofc you know your skillset best so the choice is ultimately up to you!

The cracking the ap psychology books (I’m assuming youre referring to regular princeton review?) should be fine, I’ve never needed to use Premium for any of my subjects. 2019 is ok too since there again haven’t been major curriculum changes to my knowledge. • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey I self studied Psych my sophomore year too (with no prior experience)! So I've been in your shoes before. I think what I would recommend is taking APUSH first, and once you develop study habits from that class start reviewing APES/Psych material by the winter/spring. I took World as a class back then and the note-taking skills I developed from that class were crucial in helping me do well on the Psych exam.
      Both APES and Psych are such content heavy classes, there's not much application and you can get by with mostly memorization and inference so they shouldn't be too difficult of classes to self study. For APES, I would definitely practice as many MCQ as possible, as well as draw out the diagrams (so you can easily memorize them since those were really difficult for me). Don't stress too much about the formatting of the FRQ for either classes, they're very straightforward and don't require a specific rubric like APUSH does. I have a video explaining how to do one for Psych, but let me know if an APES one would help too.
      If you have any other questions or need any help at all, feel free to contact me whenever! Self studying is a little daunting sometimes, and it really sucks to be in it all alone. But it's worth it if you put in the work :)

      10,000 subs with no videos Memes definitely speak to your counselor/ap exam coordinator, whichever is available at your school. you should pay the fee as normal, and then after that my coordinator enrolled me into an exam only class for ap classroom. i’m not sure what the process is for homeschooled students tho, but i hope helped !!

      @@WabonaDandi the regular deadline has already passed, which means you would have to pay a late fee. but you can still register (it ends for real at the beginning of march i believe)
