  • Danny James was back in the studio, this time delivering an amazing remix set using the Roland DJ 505. This controller is capable of so so much and he really put its features to the test!

    Great videos guys. When DJing do you have to perform all the music you’re going to play or just a certain playlist you created? Hopefully I’m asking the question right ?
    Thx guys

      Usually when playing to a crowd it’s about working off their reactions. Your set list may vary depending on how they react. A pre planned set of songs in an order won’t always work on a dance floor so in this case it can change quite a lot. If creating a routine or minimix then the tracks and order would be pre planned.

    I love the dj-505 ! An excellent machine ! But i've got some difficulties to do my traktor => serato migration (seraro don't find my itunes 😥😥😥) ... Any video help for that ?

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where are your songs located? On your laptop/computer or an external drive? You can literally drag and drop your music into Serato from their original location.

    Some body with experiencie using the 505 or 808? I wanna swap my ddj 400 for a roland 505, but it seems is hard to find some dj performances on youtube, and thats weird because this console released 3 yesrs ago, and is a beautiful way to extend your mix with more crearivity and live features.

    That was a dope performance..
    It seems like its easier to use the drum machine on the 505 than the 808. What do you guys think?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s a bit more stripped back as far as the buttons go on the 505 but you can still do just about everything with the drum machine that you can on the 808.
      It’s still quite complex navigating your way around the different drum machines that are built in, Serato samples and other options available. But like anything the more you do it the more it becomes second nature. Both are controllers you would want to spend quite a bit of time learning the drum machine features.

      Crossfader I have the 808 and still have so much to learn. And it doesn't help that I switch back and forth between the 808 and the DDJ 1000. Thanks for the reply.

      LLoyoc Especially when you use RB and Serato, try to find one software that fits to your workflow

      I’m a bit stuck and it’s a bit daunting about the work in hand.

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For the 808 I would set yourself small projects with it. Set up a melodic loop like at the start of this video and experiment creating different drums around it. Even if it’s not yet in an extended set it’s a good way to practice. Then set up some vocals in the Serato sampler and try chop them in over a looped beat. Just a few ideas, try not to get too overwhelmed to start with.

    You guys should do a techno set on this drum using the drum machine.

    • @puma-white
      @puma-white 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love doing techno sets on my 505, you can just add so much to each track and there's like 20 banks of sounds that come preloaded and even premade loops, not that they are super useful.

    I really hope someone replies to this but what are the chances on such a old video. So I've literally just started messing with mine noticed if I'm just playing the trS drums like a drum pad they're not in sync but sound extremely quantized to the track thats playing. I turned sync off at the top I think and still noticed some kind of quanize delay in my pressing of the kick pad for example. Is this normal or am I maybe doing something wrong?

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you made sure the beat grid on the tracks that's currently playing is on beat, this can throw the drum sync off! Hope it helps!

    I know Serato doesn’t have this feature but I’m going to ask anyway. Rekordbox dj has a “related track window “ which is very helpful when mixing. Does Serato have a anything similar to this feature? Thx guys once again.

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No unfortunately it doesn’t offer a similar feature. The closest thing would be the browse panel to explore your entire library by a certain key or a certain Bpm value. But it won’t match to the current song or a selected song and offer suggestions.

    Not a fan of those clashing vocals. Few parts in this mix where it just sounded messy!
