    Road is long but I believe in you guys! GPv3 will be so good, I'm sure of it! ❤ You can do so much even now and with geo nodes support the possibilities will be insane. Exciting times!

    It's so cool to be part of Grease Pencil while it's growing so rapidly like this. Linked keyframes and GEOMETRY NODES??? I genuinely believe one of the best reasons artists should be investing their time in GP is how promising a future this tool has. What other animation software is this damn exciting? I watched your SPA talk last year and was SO amazed at the tools you developed for them, learning that you're working on Blender official full-time makes me even more optimistic about what's in store for us next. Thanks for the talk!!!

      I'm not even using GP and I still finds it dope AF !

      I believe GP is fantastic but the problem is that it's missing a lot of features 2D animators wants, and as you saw, GP3 still in its infanty. But when it will be released I'm sure it will shock the industry.

    That curve to mesh node sounds intresting. We can finally have that keymesh/claymation addon functionality inside the grease pencil system. Shout out to the grease pencil team.

    We appreciate the work you do Falk David and team
    . It's a tonne of work to rebuild this, and we are super excited to see this progress. The active smoothing change looks great, very clever, as one example shown here. Are there plans to implement some of the SPA features, like shift and trace, in the future?

    • @FalkFilmTutorials
      @FalkFilmTutorials ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Shift & Trace is an interesting one because the animation module wants this tech for 3D animation as well. We're working on a prototype that allows onion skinning for more than just grease pencil (anything that has geometry) and would also allow to transform the onion skinned frames. Can't give you a date, but it's coming.

    I hope someone makes a much simpler video regarding 2D animation in Grease Pencil 3.0 (with some practical examples), because sadly this is a bit too technical for me to understand how this differs from the previous version. But I appreciate you folks' work!! Thank you for giving us this amazing free tool to express ourselves!

      This presentation took place in the "Developers Attic" room and intended at developers, that's why the technical aspect of it. I'm sure the community will make lots of tutorials once it's closer to being ready.

    Cool! I hope a grease pencil pass option is also coming for the rework :)

  • @YeruFox
    @YeruFox ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would love that the grease pencil reacts better with 3D lighting… just like a 3D plane with an image does…
    For example the grease pencil doesn’t react with bloom from other objects. It doesn’t look like it’s actually integrated in that space

    • @YeruFox
      @YeruFox ปีที่แล้ว

      Also it would awesome if we could edit the grease pencil with the procedural nodes for creating certain effects
      In other words.. ones we finish our animation there should be an option for converting that grease pencil object into a 3D plane with transparency.. and now we would have all of the advantages of a 3D object with that animation.

  • @dadisuperman3472
    @dadisuperman3472 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually there is another optimization that you can use.
    Instead of copying the position data, you just create a vector of offset from the original position.
    And you can create a stack of that offset to implement the undo feature.
    And when the user commits the change, then that stack will collapse and finish be applied to the original position data.

    if the speaker ends up reading the comments, I really hope you guys can implement preexisting brush formats INTO grease pencil, such as Photoshop, Gimp, MyPaint, Etc formats, because people who already have a favorite brush/brush pack in these engines could simply import their favorites into blender and instantly get results they're used to. I know blender has their own brush format, and it should still get more development, but also, others have invented the wheel to good effect already, why not bring their work and the benefits that follow into blender

    • @kokoze
      @kokoze ปีที่แล้ว

      This should be worked on as an addon imo :)

    • @Kavukamari
      @Kavukamari ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kokoze I think i partially agree with this... the reason is because brush sampling/ dabbing is an intensive process. I think that the import and export of the brushes should be an addon, but the brush sampling engine should be written in c++ so it can be as performant as possible

    • @chaosinism9491
      @chaosinism9491 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am developing my own add-on (called NijiGPen) to load brushes. So far I can extract brush textures from Photoshop/GIMP and soon from Procreate. But getting the right parameters is a pain. On the one hand, brush formats like ABR are not open and cannot be fully parsed. On the other hand, these pixel-based brushes work in a very different way than Grease Pencil. I am still not sure what the best approach should be.

    • @Kavukamari
      @Kavukamari ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chaosinism9491 in my opinion someone needs to rewrite blender's brush dab engine to support more parameters. These values can be stored in each spline point as arbitrary attributes, if this is done, it wouldn't matter what brushes we import, we would be able to write a shim to make the brush compatible with the program

      Prioritizing 2d animations fast and intuitive and then combining or may be not with 3D.. aftereffects is there for it.

    i dont believe in the project anymore, it seems they wont adress the biggest problems with grease pencil and just tack on technical features which are close to zero importance to anyone who draws and animates ( and also for cleanup and color artists)
