Don't get me wrong, all the points you made are totally valid and I don't want in any way to discorage such brave takes specially when they are all very substantiated in what seems to be an unrelentless ammount of research. It's just that GKMC is not even close to being as bad of an album as TPAB, and its a bit closer to Kendrick's only masterpice (untitled unremastered). Also although OD is a mixtape its obviously miles ahead of the lackluster that is GKMC, and should be represented in the list. I have a different opinion you see, I think it’s the fact that drake sees himself in the same level of artistry as Kendrick and let’s be honest here, He’s not. Kendrick Lamar’s a Pulitzer Prize winning conceptual artist. His albums are carefully crafted and layered. You can sit down and have an intellectual discussion about Kendrick’s albums because they are dense and complex. Drake might be more popular in the mainstream and people react more because he has to stay relevant so Drake makes the same song, repeats lyrics, similar instrumentals as his previous works. Sure he might have a few catchy songs but in the grand scheme of things Kendrick is seen as a musician and an important figure in hiphop, His music substance actually matters. Kendrick Lamar is a writer at heart and has been exclusive to hip-hop his whole life. Drake started out as an actor for a teen drama and than transitioned to a hip hop career, meaning he had the money and the connections to make it whether or not he was good or bad. Kendrick Lamar came from nothing and got recognized because his music was good and he was unique. Kendrick’s music will stand the test of time and than some. Drake will be remembered for sure because he is one of the most popular rappers, But being the most popular doesn’t mean your the best, It just means his marketing team knows what they are doing to maintain his relevance. Kendrick cares more about the art than his popularity and it shows in his music. In addition, the quality of drakes music is Inconsistent. Kendrick might tackle niche topics but his execution of said topics is higher quality and consistent, drake might have content that is more relatable to the masses like relationships and partying but that doesn’t automatically elevate the craft of your music. Your just appealing to the masses/mainstream like everyone else. That’s what makes Kendrick stands out from the crowd he does the opposite which makes him have longevity and unique qualities. In terms of critical acclaim Kendrick takes the cake. Drake might have more streams and numbers which means nothing in terms of the quality of the music drake makes. Kendrick makes higher quality music and has overall higher critical acclaim than drake because of it. You can find a lot of bad reviews and mixed reviews on drakes albums from major and independent outlets and next to none for Kendrick. Taste recognizes taste. In my personal opinion quality matters the most in anything related to art and Kendrick has made art on a higher level than drake. Kendrick has made hiphop albums that are the gold standard of what hiphop should sound like and be. Drake has released mediocre albums and has received lukewarm reviews which makes his discography diluted and bloated with Mediocrity. Kendrick is versatile in terms of flow, instrumentation, lyrics, Which is why he receives universal critical acclaim, Simple as that. People like to talk numbers like that matters, well how about we talk about reviews. Drake doesn’t have an album good enough to be put up against some of the greatest hiphop albums of all time unlike Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick outnumbers drake in terms of quality and critical acclaim.
