    This was a good breakdown...I think the best all around first scanner if you wanna get into the business is the laser based hand held scanner...it will basically do everything except the very small stuff. The optical is probably my least favorite except for two things...really small objects like you said, and 8-10" sized parts that you are going to be scanning a lot of them for QC. Once you get it setup, its pretty quick and hands off...

      Hey Justin, yes laser based 3D scanners are by far the most popular because of their combination of speed, accuracy, portability, ease of use and resolution.

    Curious why you didn't mention the surphaser that you guys talked about in other videos for large objects like boats, planes, cars. how do those compare for the large set up like the optical handheld?

      Hi Hansbrix, for this video we focused on 3D scanners that serve similar applications in the small to medium part size range. The Surphaser is really meant for large things and works very diffeerently to the other scanners.

    It would be nice to see numbers. Comparison of different systems on several reference objects. Spheres, ballbars, etc.
