When I was growing up, my granny was my favorite cook. My mama was also a fantastic cook, but there was just something about being in granny’s kitchen. We all gathered around the table when we went to her house. I have made it easy for you to learn how to cook like my granny and mama did with cooking tutorials for every recipe in our cookbooks. I am a Southern girl born and raised in Collard Valley in Polk County, Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, and the grocery store on Friday, and that was our life: no vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people.
If you learn to cook like my mama and granny, you will become one of the best Southern cooks. Thank you so much for being a part of this dream of mine.

Potatoes cut into french fries are good with cornmeal and fried. My favorite way to eat them.

On a trip from our home in California to Texas we stopped at a place called The Inn in Cloudcroft, we ordered thick oven roasted pork chops and mashed potatoes and gravy, the potatoes and gravy were served in dessert glasses with a pedestal! It was soooo
fancy and delicious. I think we also had green beans. Then a couple of years later my sister flew out to Ca and she and I drove back to Texas and stopped at the Inn again and had the same delicious meal. Your dinner looks delicious!

We have a local meat market that buys from locally raised cow, pig, lamb an goat, and process it at the store, talk bout fresh! Shopping there is a real treat, they smoke the meats as well. 😋
Put you White Lily corn meal mix in a zip bag. You can bread a lot of squash or okra with no mess.

Yum! BTW, there's not a skillet out there that could possibly hold more fried squash that I could eat. By myself! Don't think I've ever even had "enough".
Tere, that’s how I feel about fried okra. Funny but I was just thinking about one of the last family reunions our family had, we stopped by our aunt and uncle’s house before heading out to the lake, and she had the largest iron skillet I’d ever seen and also the largest amount of okra I’d ever seen being cooked at one time, and she picked it out of their garden that morning. My daughter and I both love it so much, we will eat the leftovers cold! And chances are we fight over them! I always chop up potatoes about the same size I chop the okra and cook them together after they’ve been coated in yellow cornmeal because that’s how my Mom and all of the other cooks in our family prepared fried okra, I think it may have started as a way to stretch the okra. Not sure of the reason, but that’s still how we cook it. I had planned to go
to Sprouts Farmers Market today to get some okra and cantaloupe, but it’s just too hot to go out, it’s over 100 today.

Growing up my mom would make fried squash like you used to. It was so yummy; was a treat bcuz she didn't fry foods very often. Those were beautiful chops!! Your chicken eat well 😂!
Did you wrap the potato in foil, then in microwave? I thought you couldn't put foil in microwave
No you can't. We put foil on it after it is cooked.

Well, I asked a legitimate question as in the video it appears that you got the potato from the microwave and it was wrapped in foil. I’ll rewatch but gracious I thought you may own a newer model of microwave that was capable. I’m 83 years old and one never knows what’s new. Sorry to have upset you!
@@lonaphillips9617 you didn't upset me we just know better than to put tinfoil in a microwave.
We will take the microwaved potato and put it in tinfoil to keep it warm once it cooks most of the time, or we will wrap it in a dishtowel.
Have you ever tried thyme ,on pork chops. I would never cook them without it. Garlic salt and thyme.

Tammy, try seafood breader for your squash. Has the coating and all of the seasonings in it. I like Lakeside seafood breader from NC. I use it on my fried chicken, too.
Simmer water and baking soda in your enamel on cast iron, works like a charm!
