Gage doesn't realize that people in the low ranks LOVE to make you go first. Even when they're playing a going first deck and their only board breaker is 1 lightning storm and 1 raigeki
They think the extra card and battle phase will give them an advantage even if they're not on a deck designed for using either.
What makes going first such a big deal is your less inhibited access to searchers and the extra deck to get to your most meaningful cards consistently while making it that much harder for most opponents to do so. Even a simple opening like Spheres Pass can sometimes be a headache for decks that rely on setup to get to their power cards.
This is why there's been a trend towards building to interact with your non-engine or side engines, without the ability to cut off opponents' plays in their opening(which in the worst cases can end on an FTK or a total lockdown), the most meaningful intial interactions with an opponent's board would be spamming board wipes, which is not exactly the most enGAGEing style of play around.
I feel like the main culprit is that the other player is not paying attention after the coin toss and when they don't select whether they want to go first or second, the game assigns them second a lot of the time. I've definitely done this a lot when I first started playing master duel.

I make people go first and toggle off responses so just can do other stuff during their usually 10 minutes turns lmfao

To be fair. Maybe he thought noobs would quit upon seeing the combo (unfortunately noobs haven’t seen pend combo before and don’t know how long that combo extends for)

What Gage failed to realize was gold built different. It's the land of, "You play THAT?" and going second because people are rolling up with brick houses for decks.

A lot of low ranks seem to want the first battle phase.
It's less that they want the first battle phase and that most low-level players have to constantly deal with crap like Numeron all the time.

90% of times i play my bystial punk deck and dont realize queue pops and the coinflip timer expires and my opponent gets to go first for no reason its great i love it

Really enjoying the series. Happy to see the episodes getting longer so we can spend more time with each participant.
Would love some kind of tracker to see where everyone is though, if not throughout the video then at least at the end. Some of the cutaways happened just before the players' ranks appeared so it's hard to gauge whose ahead even though they have timers on during their streams.
Watching these good tcg players struggle with master duel is the most entertaining part of this. They are so talented yet they have no idea what they’re doing in master duel meta

What I've learned here today: more people play Ghost Ogre than i thought.
since this series has started i started doing my own ranked grind to see what i can get to on a fresh account. I'm currently using Danger Dark World.

Honestly i played Ogre as a replacement for ash when i didnt have 3 ash but its surprisingly more useful than youd expect.

Nah Gage was supplementing his claims with the fact that a vast majority of players that made him go first were themselves on going first strategies and thus would have no other incentive unless they were stream sniping

I've alway wanted to transverser my opponent, but most of my decks don't have room for it, and the rare occasion I can play it, there's never been a chance to actually make it work.
You see if they all just played gem knight FTK they could have just instantly teleported to gold.

going second you can hopefully dodge big blowout cards like evenly matched and you get a draw and the first at a chance to otk. obviously its not always the best but I see why players would pick it

dlink let you go second because dlink is arguably better going second. going first their board's kinda mid. best they can usually put up is borrelend, borrelload, and archfiend abyss. going second borrelend boardwipes all your dudes and they end on follow up while you're gassed.

Real talk tho bro was no dlink player, he was on Metalrokket which is only used in duel links pure rokket builds, and didn’t link climb at all which is just bad practice.
With bystials I mean we can set up so much or as little as we need with dlink especially with regained and beast for advantage looping. That looked like a actual rokket deck which used up way too much resources to make a Borrelend
