Gage doesn't realize that people in the low ranks LOVE to make you go first. Even when they're playing a going first deck and their only board breaker is 1 lightning storm and 1 raigeki
They think the extra card and battle phase will give them an advantage even if they're not on a deck designed for using either. What makes going first such a big deal is your less inhibited access to searchers and the extra deck to get to your most meaningful cards consistently while making it that much harder for most opponents to do so. Even a simple opening like Spheres Pass can sometimes be a headache for decks that rely on setup to get to their power cards. This is why there's been a trend towards building to interact with your non-engine or side engines, without the ability to cut off opponents' plays in their opening(which in the worst cases can end on an FTK or a total lockdown), the most meaningful intial interactions with an opponent's board would be spamming board wipes, which is not exactly the most enGAGEing style of play around.
I feel like the main culprit is that the other player is not paying attention after the coin toss and when they don't select whether they want to go first or second, the game assigns them second a lot of the time. I've definitely done this a lot when I first started playing master duel.

90% of times i play my bystial punk deck and dont realize queue pops and the coinflip timer expires and my opponent gets to go first for no reason its great i love it not always someone sniping

I've alway wanted to transverser my opponent, but most of my decks don't have room for it, and the rare occasion I can play it, there's never been a chance to actually make it work.

dlink let you go second because dlink is arguably better going second. going first their board's kinda mid. best they can usually put up is borrelend, borrelload, and archfiend abyss. going second borrelend boardwipes all your dudes and they end on follow up while you're gassed.

With bystials I mean we can set up so much or as little as we need with dlink especially with regained and beast for advantage looping. That looked like a actual rokket deck which used up way too much resources to make a Borrelend
