- The Komodo dragon is the world's largest lizard and one of its fiercest predators. The crew travels to Komodo Island to observe these magnificent and deadly creatures.
1000 Days for the Planet is the latest project from world-renowned scientist and UN Ambassador for the Environment, Jean Lemire. Lemire explores the world from his 50-foot sailboat, the Sedna IV, stopping everywhere from Alaska to the Philippines. Along the way, the series reveals the extraordinary beauty of the planet whilst helping us understand how our living environments function, and ultimately ponder the great challenges we all face.
Exploring life from ocean depths to mountain peaks, and from vast savannahs to the heart of the jungle, this series is beautiful and challenging. 1000 Days for the Planet is a journey around our vast planet to discover life’s extraordinary diversity and to bear witness to its fragile balance.

Wonderful! The Indonesian team are so amazing 👏
1ST thing alll this protection on n on over this pre-hist..by the indonisean people....tells me/not tooo smart...its a poor country an for ther govt. to spend ANY $$$ over this giant rat..... is just dumb.
It's admirable how the people treat Komodo dragons as part of the island rather than in conflict with it. So many cases with the natural world, people are the threat not the other way around. These inhabitants understands that better than most.
I would love to see a few around Disney. Plenty to eat there.
Believe me if you read some of the comments literally wanted to shoot them all, they say it deserves to extinct such a cruel animal hahahahah the animals they know is a dog and cats probably, what un educated ignorant people
@@sosis69 fact: those people want the ecosystem destroyed.
Stop it
Humans aren’t on the menu, it’s not that hard to coexist with these animals as it is say lions or elephants or hippos.
Wonderful land, wonderful animal and wonderful indonesia👏👏
I was born in the year of the dragon and met one. They are amazing!
Those parents whose son got killed by the dragon are seriously traumatized, and I don't blame them. That's a terrible way to go, and seeing this happening to your child is the worst thing imaginable.
Made me tear with the parents share of pain.
Sending children alone to the beach on an island full of powerful lizards that can snuff the life out of you in an instant is pretty stupid.
@kingpickle3712 It's not stupid; it's part of living life. Let's not victim blame. What happened happened, and it's none of their faults. Predators exist and should not be dismissed for being predators. Living ingrained with the wild is rewarding and dangerous, and for some it's their way of life, and I personally do not judge them harshly for it.
I’m so happy the people have learned to live with these beautiful animals ❤
I think they are ugly, not beautiful. Ugly as sin. Some things should have died out. This is one of them. Crocs and gators are two more ugly dangerous animals.
Puppies and kittens are beautiful animals, not these uglies. Yuck!
@@Canada4evermore These animals are vital to the ecosystem. Nature doesn’t care about your feelings.
I'm so impressed by the quality of your content. 🌟 Thank you for being such a great resource!
I'm pretty sure this isn't their original work. As in they downloaded the video from somewhere else and then uploaded onto TH-cam
Crikey! It's all fun and games unless you're a goat. 🐐
Give them messi...its goat too.😅
Great documentary but cant believe that no one mentioned the fact that Komodo Dragons have a venomous bite. They bite prey & then wait for the venom to slow it down / kill it.........This is such an important fact about the Komodos but its not mentioned at all in this documentary........very strange.
I don't think it's a venom. I believe is that their mouth is full of bacteria that will kill, eventually, the pray. Just like anaconda...
Actual fact
No they do not have a venomous bite, it is the saliva in the mouth that contains toxic bacteria, and it is this bacteria that enter a wound left by their teeth.
@@will-i-am-not That's an outdated theory. There IS bacteria, but everything has bacteria in their mouths (including us). They have actual venom glands in their lower jaw
@@will-i-am-not this is real facts
Beautiful place, I visited it in 2018 , difficult place to get to but we’ll worth the effort
Where did you travel there from , and how long did it take you to get there ? Thanks !

Took a tour from there,, lasted 15 hours !
From the island “EAST NUSA TENGGARA”

These things just make me glad we dont share the planet with many if the extinct dinosaurs
It amazes me how the Komodo Dragon experts have lived long enough to become experts. These are some brave people
The balls on these guys to snag a dragon like that.
Bigger balls than any lion or gator hunter.
Beautiful animal. Our world is such an amazing place
Beautiful animal lol ? see what everyone thinks of them in the videos of these dragons eating Goats Boars Deer
@@AC-LING666 yeah. and? who cares what they think. i wanna pet the big venomous scaled puppy
@@dakotabiggs9160 you'd get chewed on like a piece of jerky, i admire these animals but i don't humanize them, that'd be a mistake ... these are apex predators, they're not your dog or cat at home that you can approach whenever you feel is convenient and extend your hand to ... these animals will look at you as food if they are running short on options, they eat deer larger than most grown males.

Beautiful Beach
Amazing video , amazing animal , beautiful beach too
There so cute, there face looks like a Big Snake very interesting thanks for sharing something way Different 😊
fun fact that probably lost in translations, the local natives don't call them "komodo" (the name "komodo" were actually given by westerner scientists back then). in local natives' language, they're actually called "buaya" (crocodile) or "buaya darat" (land crocodile).
if you ask any other Indonesian elsewhere, "what is buaya?" they'll show you either crocodile or alligator, but if you ask the same question to local natives here, "what is buaya?" they'll show you the komodo instead ...
Ours is more accurate. Crocodilians aren’t even lepidosaurs.
@@pustakarileks7404 kalo yg di kota" punya ciri" sendiri kak... idungnya belang
What the fuck you talking about
It’s crazy how much the US supports these treasures for the world. It’s truly a gift that people don’t give much credit too
Agreed. The USA has taken much from the world and it's only right that they try to give back however they can.
The villagers are so kind and sweet

Those guys have some balls, that is 1 animal that i would not want to be face to face with
Yes big balls dangerous specimen so fast also lethal bite takes all comers

The documentary is very interesting. Thank you for coming in Comodo Island.
I grew up in Papua New Guinea.
Respect for every life is key to survival.
Indonesia has gotta be one of the only places in the world where the human population knows well that they're just guests in the ecosystem, and not its owners and rulers by default by virtue of being human alone. I really wish more cultures were like that.
Indonesian here, most of Indonesian have something that is called "Kearifan lokal" or local wisdom. This is very prevalent in Indonesia country side and the people upheld them + very strict about it, and it helped preserved the nature in the respective area. One of many thing in which our local wisdom actually helped to preserve nature is the story of Mount Salak. The locals there will tell people from outside the area about ghost / djinn story in there, about how people missing there, and the mountain is a very sacred area. Of course modern human will say all of that bogus, and I can agree with that. However, those stories worked and Mount Salak still preserved its natural habitat up until now, and Mount Salak is actually an important water source for the surrounding cities. If there was not a single local wisdom that making Mount Salak sacred, all the natural habitat there will be gone already, filled with resorts and hungry investor, and more importantly losing natural water source that can support the surrounding cities.
What? River Citarum in Indonesia is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Also cities in Indonesia have huge problem with air pollution.
@@M43782 I agree, Im not saying that there werent problems regarding environmental "purity" in Indonesa, in fact there are alot of problems here. Im saying that despite all of that, there are cases where local wisdom actually help to preserve nature from human's greed, and Mount Salak is one of them.
I think Jimmy Morrison might have something to say about who the lizard king is... lol
Well played , sir.
@floridahasthese
Salty meat is freedom from these.
Wonderful Indonesia ❤❤❤
Excellent video
strange looking cats, but glad they are getting attention :P

The documentary very interesting to watch like NGC. The most dangerous giant lizards of the world are Komodo Dragon with poison dropping from the beak when it been attacked suddenly, of course.
Wounderfull Indonesia 🇮🇩🤗❤️
Truly amazing!
I agree 💯🤞✨
11:22. 8 double A batteries is crazy.
Nice documentary. Where does your team get your music? Is it composed by an appointed or chosen person or did you get it from epidemic sound or something?
What a game preserve then. Never thought of a Komodo herd as stores.
pas le meme type de climat Jean !!! prochaine destination?
Good documentory . One thing i felt was wrong , how are american biologist an expert in komodo dragon than the local biologist and rangers of the Indonesia park ?
Anyway this video was informative and i was able to learn a lot about dragons.
Komodo dragons are adorable.
Prove it. Post a video of you petting one.
Till you got one sweet bite from them
crazy ass thing to say
Yes they're pretty cute looking. They're just large lizards

I felt like I was watching Jurassic Park
Rinca Island.. NTT, INDONESIA 🇮🇩
Just imagine seeing these for the first time ever.
I'll bet that the people took off running , they didn't know why , but they were terrified... Lol.
Eye opening respect for their environment.
In any Western country you'd be lucky if they weren't all but eradicated.
I love these big guys! Makes me sad seeing some of the comments saying they should be extinct or killed ☹️
Their just doing what they do
Agreed
Humans are the only living creature on this planet capable of changing their living environment, which makes every other living creature's existence dependant on how we cater to their needs.
Fact: the people saying that want the ecosystem destroyed.

Did Sigorney Weaver voice this? She's still got it woohoo 😍
35:28 did she just get done eating a bunch of blueberries or something or are her teeth really like that? if so that must be painful
For those who calls themselves the goat 🐐. Stand In front of one of these bad boys and see how much of respect it has for the goat 😂😂😂
Little dinosaurs, like gators they look from a different time period. Good job for humans they don't fancy moving anywhere.

Can komodo eat raw vegetable or mais? what is they live in an area with enough vegetable and fruit to eat, will the less eat other animals?
Mantap keren
Sometimes the beauty and/or cuteness of animals can make me cry. I will cry over this big lizard . I pet a water monitor once and I’m gonna pretend it was a Komodo’s scales because I’m not here to die a violent death, especially via my favorite animal
10 minutes in and haven't seen a komodo yet that they have seen
It kinda is destiny, humans are apart of the food chain and should learn to coexist with nature.
8:02 what bugs aee climbing the tree? Ants?
That's one scary dude. If I saw one of these in the wild, I'd be freaking out.
Rarely attract humans? This one was going after that man and quickly! No f,in way would I ever be a part of this

I wonder if they would make a good pet if they were captive born ? Some of the large monitor lizards , like the Black Throated and Peach Throated monitors make nice pets though they require a lot of work and need a ton of room.
No mention of the Komodos venomous bite..........Strange.
It’s not all that interesting honestly. All varanids have venom. It ranges in potency from causing itching to flu like symptoms and throat swelling. The Komodo’s venom might be slightly stronger.

I heard the voice of a bird from the far east that says your komodo is more the raptor brontosaurus. That means, it's a herbivore. It's not finding anything to it's liking so it's searching. Try pineapples, probably loves them.

When the babies are in the tree avoiding the adults, do they instinctively know to avoid the adults ?

My money is on the Lion.
A Komodo would put up a tough fight, but the lion would likely win due only to its size advantage. Gonna need a megalania, but even that be way too big for any modern or even extinct felid.
