One down year, better take full advantage. The SEC still has the most bowl wins, highest bowl win percentage, and a winning record in bowl season against all power 5 conferences. They’ll win yet another championship this season too.
Purdue had the 50th ranked offense (Tennessee 15th). The Tennessee defense was getting scorched out there again. Pass defense issues and poor rubber arm tacking. Purdue had the 29th ranked defense (Tennessee was not in the top 50) Is there any question why Tennessee could not win tonight?
Alabama and georgia each best up 8 scrubs from the SEC this year. The SEC being weak with ooc games in the season should have showed the pollsters the SEC is weak this year
On offense, the Vols had 666 total yards and put up 45 points. That's great. Jabari Small was in beast mode and Cedric Tillman was sharp. But 128 yards in penalties is unacceptable and Hooker underthrows too many passes. The Vols defense did come up with 3 picks, but does that make up for allowing 48 points on 534 yards in passing? They still cannot tackle, especially big men. Takeaway: they lack fundamentals like blocking, tackling and discipline. Hendon Hooker will not lead them to an SEC championship game and possibly not even a winning SEC record. They have tons of work to do to become competitive.
You can say the official blew his whistle before the ball crossed the plane but, the NFL Rule 12, Section 1, Article 4-a does not apply to collegiate football: In the NFL, no one can pull a player across the plane or to make forward progress, again: look up the rules in college football: you can pull your runner across the goal line or plane, as long as the play is not blown dead. The official that blew his whistle cost Tennessee a TD because the runner was in still forward progress and, clearly the ball broke the plane by 4 inches. It was a TD however, since the official blew his whistle: it's labeled and, called a dead play, this is why a TD was not called: In all honesty, Tennessee got robbed but, we still must accept there was no TD awarded because the official blew his whistle as a dead play, it was not because Tennessee player pulling his runner into the end zone.
Horrible pass defense (I know we were missing guys), but Purdue represented the B1G well. Multiple 4th down defensive stops in regulation and overtime. Boiler up!
Even after everything that happened, we have timeouts and the ball around the 40 of Purdue with around 15-20 secs left. We throw or run down to the 25 and kick a field goal, we win. But Josh had to make it more dramatic and go for the splash play.....his ego got the better of him. We now have a gun-slinger for a coach, so we'll win a few, lose a few.
What a great 20 hours! UT loses in hoops and then loses a home game in their bowl allowing a team led by a walk-on 8 string qb to go off. Was waiting for the field to be littered with items like earlier this season. Here’s the thing, nobody in the SEC likes UT. They’re the annoying trash talker that really isn’t very good.
a mid big 10 school missing their best players beats a mid SEC school b/c of poor coaching. OT call was correct it wasn't a TD, forward progress was stopped and VOL player tried pulling the ball carrier into the endzone which is a penalty. "No other teammate shall grasp, pull, or lift the ball carrier to assist in forward progress. (A.R. 9-3-2-I)" Great game, no def but great game all the same.
I watched the game when there was 3:37 left in 4th. 3 tds in about 2 and 1/2 minutes. The overtime was wild too. Aiden O'Connell was incredible. He made so much improvement this year. He is a 5th year senior. I think the way he played this year would make him the best QB in purdue history. He is playing for Purdue next season. He's using his 6th year of eligibility.
Yes Tennessee got robbed but it really should’ve been over in regulation. Heupel decided to take 2 deep shots into the end zone for no reason despite having 17 seconds left with 3 timeouts.
well on one of the deep shots tillman got held i think it was bad okay calling but he woulda been wide open for a td had he not got held and that’s why hooker overthrew him
This coach is way too aggressive to be a winning coach. Why go for every time its 4 and 1. I mean the math doesn't say its guaranteed every time. I'm glad Purdue defense held because its very disrespectful to keep going for it over and over again.

Arkansas Razorback fan here much as I hate Tennessee I believe they were robbed of the touchdown. I’m not gonna say that Purdue would of won or lost but it does changes things but neither one of them had a good defense. Best bowl game yet by far. WPS beat Penn St !
If this is what the ACC has to go through game by game for their officiating crew, then i feel bad for them. Bad penalties AND no calls for both sides.
I was back tracking to see if I posted any previous comments about SEC fans whining lol. Hopefully I didn't. I just hate that the officiating was terrible. It takes the joy away from the game. Then it makes the fans go off on the opposing fans. These officials need to get it together. I'm excited for Purdue and fans that they won. And this game was super exciting. One for the ages. Again, the refs kinda ruined it somewhat. Still a great game though.
This Ohio State fan agrees with you as well. They said he was down by forward progress but the whistle was blown after he had already extended the ball out into the end zone. Just pure ridiculousness.

Who would’ve thought South Carolina is the only SEC team to win a bowl game (1-5 overall)
Congrats Purdue you deserved to win I'm very disappointed in my Vols.
its not the vols fault. you should be mad at refs!
@@xavierhughes7410 nah, when you allow 45 points and forget to tackle you deserve to lose.
@@xavierhughes7410 Yeah but let's be honest Vols wouldn't have been in that position if the defense wouldn't have given up so many big plays.
@@lukemccardle2379 that is true but its the ending call is what got me upset
@@xavierhughes7410 I agree that was really jacked up call.
THIS is a football game. Constant suspense, big plays, surprises everywhere.
Everyone: the SEC is the best conference in college football!
Bowl games: 1-5
I mean if your looking at most National championships in recent history they are 🤷♂️
Wait and see who wins it all! I bet you its an SEC team and I bet the Championship game will have 2 SEC teams in it.
@@rxsejay and LSU sucks again lol
@@rxsejay a flash in the pan season for a team who managed to find a generational QB and then all Bama. As always. And other teams riding in on Saban's coattails. As always.
With the refs help
Great game. I just wish the field and the refs wouldn't have been so horrid. The fake injuries have got to stop too. This game took 5 hours...
What a shootout!
You Volunteer fans need to stop blaming that touchdown at the end. Yes, it was a controversial call, but what about the tight end getting that touchdown when you forgot how to tackle? What about the 99999 times you blew coverage?
Our best cover corner not playing was a big factor but yeah we did not look motivated to play in this game on defense. Still a lot of 2nd and 3rd stringers in the secondary
The powerful SEC has now lost bowl games to Army, UCF, Houston, Texas Tech and Purdue. 3 non power 5 teams and two middle of the pack teams
Well Purdue isn't a middle of the pack team lmao they took out 2 top 3 teams this year 3Michigan State and 2Iowa they are a good football team ALWAYS has been I think the vols did good but they had bad decisions In the end plus the refs made some horrible calls
One down year, better take full advantage. The SEC still has the most bowl wins, highest bowl win percentage, and a winning record in bowl season against all power 5 conferences. They’ll win yet another championship this season too.
never in my life have i been more emotionally exhausted watching a football game in person lol
They don't show that B's call where the stopped forward progress before the whistle blew on the Tennessee TD in OT
They missed a huge roughing the punter penalty against UT.
Sprout 88........... one has to ask, "what are the the refs whistles for if another ref can say the play is over?
Tired of southern teams getting literal home games for their bowls.
I was at the game today and Tennessee got robbed at the end of the play of overtime
Cuz of that awful call and bad play calling?
Jeez TV announcers...just blow Tennessee and get it over with..
Boilermakers also set the record for most injured players in a game.
I think Tenn defense gets an overhaul next season.
Cedric Tillman is criminally underrated
SEC 1-5....LOL
Horrible pass defense (I know we were missing guys), but Purdue represented the B1G well. Multiple 4th down defensive stops in regulation and overtime.
Boiler up!
Look at the final play and you can clearly see the Tennessee player pull the runner forward, which should be a 10 yard penalty that went uncalled
That TE who broke 3 tackles reminded me of Tommie Frazier's run against Florida back in 95.
Btw where is Ben Hanks now and how is he doing?
TENN, TENN, TENN.
U forgot to put where Tennessee scored and got screwed over in overtime
And I lose another bowl mania game due to a bullcrap call
Even after everything that happened, we have timeouts and the ball around the 40 of Purdue with around 15-20 secs left. We throw or run down to the 25 and kick a field goal, we win. But Josh had to make it more dramatic and go for the splash play.....his ego got the better of him. We now have a gun-slinger for a coach, so we'll win a few, lose a few.
CJH is a humongous upgrade from that peanut head that had to cheat just to win 3 games. I will take the gunslinger and be happy.
Yeah that was pretty idiotic. Get your kicker some yardage. Screwed the guy with a 57 yard attempt.
Wow, what a GREAT GAME!
Go B1G!!!
UT will always find a way to lose. The good old days UT football it's over. Go Alabama
🤮
a mid big 10 school missing their best players beats a mid SEC school b/c of poor coaching. OT call was correct it wasn't a TD, forward progress was stopped and VOL player tried pulling the ball carrier into the endzone which is a penalty. "No other teammate shall grasp, pull, or lift the ball carrier to assist in forward progress. (A.R. 9-3-2-I)"
Great game, no def but great game all the same.
Where’s the play?
I watched the game when there was 3:37 left in 4th. 3 tds in about 2 and 1/2 minutes. The overtime was wild too. Aiden O'Connell was incredible. He made so much improvement this year. He is a 5th year senior. I think the way he played this year would make him the best QB in purdue history. He is playing for Purdue next season. He's using his 6th year of eligibility.
hes gonna be a tp qb in the draft taking another year to perfect his skills
He’s a Raider
Yes Tennessee got robbed but it really should’ve been over in regulation. Heupel decided to take 2 deep shots into the end zone for no reason despite having 17 seconds left with 3 timeouts.
EXACTLY
WTH were they thinking? Basically screwed the kicker
well on one of the deep shots tillman got held i think it was bad okay calling but he woulda been wide open for a td had he not got held and that’s why hooker overthrew him
Yah the play calling was atrocious!
This coach is way too aggressive to be a winning coach. Why go for every time its 4 and 1. I mean the math doesn't say its guaranteed every time. I'm glad Purdue defense held because its very disrespectful to keep going for it over and over again.
side judge miss that holding call, even the back judge should have seen it. The receiver wasn't even 10yds down the field.
This is why college football is better than the nfl so much entertainment and scoring
And lots more teams and possibilities
Refs took TD away from Tennessee in OT. Have seen many bad calls this bowl season. Not a fan of Tennessee or Purdue but I know bad calls when I see them. Good game until the ref took a TD away from Tennessee, hate to see a ref control who wins.
I'm just here to play music
We need a rematch next season!
It would be great to start a non-conference series between the two schools. Too many cupcake non-conference schedules in college football nowadays.
The 4th quarter was like playing madden
Arkansas Razorback fan here much as I hate Tennessee I believe they were robbed of the touchdown. I’m not gonna say that Purdue would of won or lost but it does changes things but neither one of them had a good defense. Best bowl game yet by far. WPS beat Penn St !
If this is what the ACC has to go through game by game for their officiating crew, then i feel bad for them. Bad penalties AND no calls for both sides.
That SEC speed🤣🤣 the SEC might have 2 teams in the Natty but that conference is trash. They literally lost every bowl game🤣 GA, and Bama thats it.
Still a great game though.
tennessee -6.5 money line was so disrespectful
Amazing game. I listened on radio. Had to see the highlights.
this game will be in my book... what the game last over 5 hours
ACC refs have beaten as many SEC teams as ACC football teams have this season.
I’m a Michigan fan and pull for the Big Ten but I have to say Tennessee was robbed in this game. That was a TD in OT.
This Alabama fan agrees with you 100%.
This Ohio State fan agrees with you as well. They said he was down by forward progress but the whistle was blown after he had already extended the ball out into the end zone. Just pure ridiculousness.
This South Carolina fan agrees too
Purdue fan here, I thought so too that it was a TD. I heard an analyst say it was the right call. Will wait to see what other analysts say.
Can someone please tell me WHY Purdue did not just kick the FG on FIRST down , after stopping Tenn. in OT. ? Why risk a turnover ? (another one ) GREAT GAME THOUGH !
