Vince was a hell of a base stealer but couldn't hit for crap. Wasn't quite as bad as Billy Hamilton (the modern one, not the OG) but definitely nowhere near as good a hitter as the other base stealing greats (Rickey, Raines, Brock, Wills, ect).

Rickey Henderson's shadow was so huge that it also stretched up into Canada, hiding away Tim Raines' brilliance as well. Raines was amazing, but still took 10 years to get into the Hall, even though his skills should have put him in immediately.
I remember it being pointed out when people were advocating for him to get into the HOF that his caught stealing % was actually lower than Rickey's. Obviously Rickey made more attempts to steal, but still.
Dalton Pompey was as fast or faster but wasn't much of a player and got cut by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was as fast or faster than Ricky both played for the Blue Jays in different eras.

I loved the Rickey/Vince stolen bas3 battle when I was a kid. I watched the A's as a kid with my dad, and Rickey was his favorite player. When I was young in the 80's there was a ton of base stealers. I love that part of the game. It's a lost art but some of my favourite players of all time were base stealing threats. Coleman, Lofton, Henderson, Vizquel, Alomar, White, Pierre, Raines, Reyes.

I’m glad you enjoy it! Yeah unfortunately they can’t be much longer as I’m currently managing a full time college workload. I had to make a series that was a bit shorter and easier to accomplish. The prime vids take 50+ hours so I needed something that would give me a breather every other week.

Back at a time Omar Vizquel was seen as one of the greatest defensive short stops of all time Rey Ordonez broke into MLB and immediately stunned everybody with his defensive wizardry. Great hitters seem to get all the credit and attention but I can’t think of any other MLB player who’s defense put asses in seats like Ordonez did in his prime

Rickey Henderson WAR in 1985: 9.9 Vince Coleman career WAR: 12.5 Vince was good at stealing bases. But, Henderson was worth about 9 Vince Coleman's in his career. Henderson would have been a HOF'er even if he had never stolen a base in his career.
Not that this adds anything to his legacy, but as a kid I got (and still have) a figurine of Ryne Sandberg fielding a throwdown to second as a player is sliding in. Starting Lineup could've chosen any player to be that base runner, and they chose Vince Coleman.
Vince Coleman was a valuable piece with Whitey Herzog St Louis Cardinals player with 2 trips to the world series 1985 to 1987 along rookie of the year 1985 and had 3 seasons over 100 stolen bases and scored alot of runs and had a great batting average 1987 batted 289 with 180 hits 13 triples 109 SB .

I think Kevin Brown would be a perfect candidate for this series. From 1995-2000 he averaged a 2.55 ERA with about 240 IP/season at the height of the steroid era. His prime also happened to coincide with the end of Greg Maddux's run of four straight Cy Youngs, Roger Clemens' second prime, including back to back Cy Young's in 97 and 98, and Pedro Martinez having maybe the greatest back to back pitching seasons ever. He also had to compete with a prime Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz. His six year peak rivals that of several hall of famers and is largely forgotten.
Vince Coleman was indeed fast, but I would argue that Tim Raines is more comparable to Rickey Henderson. Raines' offensive output was greater than Coleman's in pretty much every way. In total, he collected more hits, scored more runs, hit more homers, got on base more, and even stole more bases.
In a complete player sense I totally agree with you, but for a video focused primarily on base running Vince was extremely comparable in terms of efficiency and total bases stolen
With the new baseball rules, if a guy can get pitchers to come off the mound one too many times, 50 times they could essentially break the record without even running.
If he would have had more years & stayed consistent who knows how many more (if any) times would he have got over 100 steals in a season. As it is the first 3 years is pretty damn good. Only 8 years over 100 games & 6 of those over 120 games,5 years over 145 games. Amazingly he's still 6th all-time career.

I Get the focus on SBs since that is Coleman’s claim to fame and Rickey was his chief rival during their playing days in that area. As you gathered, the whole point of this video was to highlight base stealing abilities. I would have formatted this entirely different were I to have focused on hitting stats.
Vince in my opinion was the best base stealer and the fastest player to round the bags, his first 3 seasons proved that, consistent,! injury was what hurt coleman, id take vince over rickey, vince helped his team reach the post season the As where never in contention with rickey
