SPOILER ALERT They basically rewrote almost all of the manga and many characters. Manga Hanesaki is already a quite sportive and sadist person. The story is fochused from the professor perspective. And the whple manga itself is more like a comedy spokkon. They really threw the house out of the window with this one
The manga goes more for a shonenish approach, while the anime goes for the seinenish approach. It would depend of your preference. But well, the anime also has godlike rotoscoped animation and a simple yet meaningful opening.

She eventually saw a possibility to reconcile with badminton through her new team but her old demons came back. That's why it's so sad
