This is pure comic gold. My favorite skit in which Mel Brooks wrote for Caesar and Howie. In which Sid plays a German General or so you're led to believe. It's one of the funniest ones I've seen. Three comic geniuses in 1953. Caesar, Brooks and Reiner are still of the three funniest comics period. Most post and Vaudevillian era comedians are the best, they had to be. The fact that he also served in WWII and in the Battle of the Bulge and played Al Jolson when the Nazi's played WWII propaganda I respect Mr. Brooks even more.
Re: the Sid Caesar story with the Taxi Driver I have heard Sid discuss the very story in a detailed interview on his life that can be heard hear on TH-cam. It is a shame that Sid's health isn't that good anymore would love to see him on some of the of these late night shows the man is a genius.
Some of the best comics wrote for Sid and went on post-Caesar to have amazing careers. Mel, Carl Reiner, even a young Woody Allen. What a dynasty Sid had with his writers.
Sid Caesar was the straight man in It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Played the coach opposite John Travolta in Grease. Everything else was before my time.
Sid's take on the two stories is a bit different but also funny and understandable as to why Sid lost his temper. Mel told his version so they are funny too. I would encourage you to hear Sid tell the stories. (No cabbie in Sid's story and the other story Sid was setting down to eat after 8 or 9 performances in one day on the Chicago stage and he had not eaten all day, it was 11:30 at night. Mel wanted Sid to go out before eating and after all these performances. How much can one person take?) Sid's versions are even better. If that is possible from to great story tellers and performers. Both comic geniuses. God bless them both. (See American Television Interview with Sid.)
I wonder about these stories. Sid tells both stories completely different. Sid says he held a different guy out the window, because he wanted to go out late at night, and Sid wanted to eat dinner in the room. The car story, Sid says he just got a new car, and a guy was parking in front of him, and kept backing into it. He says his brother was with him both times. Doesn't mention Mel being there. Whether any of them are true or not, they're still good stories.
he explained that it would always hurt his neck to turn to andy and then conan and then andy and back and forth. so he brought out a chair so he wouldnt have to hurt his neck
I love when Sid tells the stories it's great specialy the cab one lol which Sid says wasn't a cab just sum jerk pushing his car with dudes car to make room for a fire hydrant and it was a brand new caddy Sid had so he was mad!!lol😂
Yep, but in my few successful years as an worldly un-reknowned comic, I noticed that that's what you start with. We take something from everyday life and we exaggerate it and make it more: funny.
Mel told a story about Sid picking up a car to move it so he could park. Always was dubious unless cars were lighter back in the day. I know Sid was a strong guy but...
What's great is Mel is stone cold legend, you can tell he's one of connans hero's. He doesn't play the Jack's ass bit with Mel just pure respect

Always remember - "I cut my finger, that's tragedy. A man walks into an open sewer and dies, that's comedy."
I wish I knew Mel Brooks. I want to spend a day or two with him and listen to him talk.

It is just amazing seeing this comedy genius still has that funny touch.
THANK YOU 4 THIS LEGEND.
MEL!
Mel Brooks is my favorite person in the world now.
Period!
No one can tell a tall tale like Mel Brooks! I love him!!

And Neil Simon
I was laughing so hard my family thought I had lost my mind.

I didn't know that. All this time I thought Spencer Tracy was the straight man.
He played the Indian chief in Blazing Saddles
I could listen to him all day
"Frau Blucher" (horses neigh in the background)
*Blücher
Conan should interview him on the Serious Jibber Jabber thingy
in typical Mel Brooks fashion when he came out he decided he wanted to sit on Conan's left instead of his right
That's not exactly the story about why Sid held Mel out the window. But it still is funny.
The way Sid tells it he was set to eat his dinner after a long night and Mel was hucking him to immediately leave the hotel and get some "air".
Taking the piss out of being old. You gotta love that.
why i haven't seen this from past 6 years . . this is Gold
Please Mr. Brooks. Make another wonderful movie.
Mel Brooks is fantastic.

Conan needs to do that Serious Jibber Jabber thing with Brooks.
mel brooks would be the coolest grandpa ever
he explained that it would always hurt his neck to turn to andy and then conan and then andy and back and forth. so he brought out a chair so he wouldnt have to hurt his neck
And that's why it's awesome
Still funny as hell.
This kind of comedy is best
good question
i'm just wondering why is mel not seated on the guest seat?
Mel Brooks was best with a script. He's telling the same story as he did on Carson in 1975.
I love when Sid tells the stories it's great specialy the cab one lol which Sid says wasn't a cab just sum jerk pushing his car with dudes car to make room for a fire hydrant and it was a brand new caddy Sid had so he was mad!!lol😂
I feel like some of Mel Brooks' stories are slightly fabricated.... but AWESOME!

what is Adrian Dunbar talking about almost working with bob hope
At first glance I thought Mel Brooks was Henry Hill.
May the Schwartz be with you Mel!! garglegarglegargle!!
Tulip Dew yess
please tell me ,why is mel in a folding chair? instead of on the couch?
I'm guessing back issues. Just a guess.
Just to be different. Seriously. He came out and said, "Why am I always sitting in that side. I want to be in this side for a change!"
Wish granted ;-D
Good Comedians stretch the Truth - Mel, stretches it so thin you could knit a sweater, scarf, & a pair of long johns for Chris Christie.
Hilarious :)
Funny how Sid tells the same story entirely differently. Same results, holding Mel out the window 18 stories above the traffic...
So this is what happened when you plopped a three year old in front of that box with the round glass thing, thanks, it helped me cut through it.
maybe he's born with it.
