    When you see incoming fire, brace for impact, then wait until you lose shields and weapons, and finally take evasive action. Brilliant tactics!

    • @williamh1658
      @williamh1658 7 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      TsutomuTomutsu, they did not take evasive action, because all of the weapons were directed at the fore of the ship. So they could merely divert power to the forward shields and hope they hold, instead of moving around and risking taking fire to the port or starboard sides of the ship. If they move then they need to equalize power to all of the sides of the shields, but if they remain in place they can simply divert power to where they know the weapons will hit.

      This might seem greedy, but it would be nice to have a ship that just has the power to do everything at once so no need to divert power. A bit like a manual and automatic car XD

      @Just me Just me you were so caught up on making him look stupid you forgot basic electronics. They have limited power, and it takes power to move directional shields. In powering their movement (thrusters, inertial dampeners, etc) that's less power for the shields to use to build up on a new side.
      Not to mention, that's a big as hell ship, and they were very far away, those shots were moving fast. There's no guarantee they could have moved out of the way in time. And before you ask why they don't do all at once, in that scenario, they didn't have time to sit back and watch, ya know? A bad descision now is better than a good descision too late

    • @danielk5780
      @danielk5780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@cmj0929 It's all a matter of power.
      The ZPM is a power source unequal in the continuity. The transfer of power to certain systems is limited by the power conduit - imagine pipes pumping water. The Hive drew power from the ZPM for a long time to build up countless layer of extremely dense hull - the Asgard Beam weapons need time to pierce through that. I'd assume with enough firepower it is possible - in 'Vegas' the Ancient Outpost on Earth was able to have a strong enough yield to do just that (hence why Atlantis should've obliterated the Hive as well, given their drone weapons should be just as powerful as the Outpost one's, but that's a different discussion).
      So, the power conduits on the Hive don't need to power shields. They only need to power weapons. And not all weapons are in the same place, so you can have multiple conduits pumping power into different weapons at the same time, each condensing the power into one extremely powerful burst of energy, focused on one section of the shields. The Deadalus was not ZPM powered, so with those short intervals between shots, it could not compensate for that loss in shield power and the shields overloaded.
      The Ori ship is different. Their ships have shields. Shields are powered by one, or multiple generators connected to the power core. The power core needs to reinforce the shields when they're hit, as well as power the weapons. The Ori have one main weapon on their ships - and if that is fired, so was mentioned in S10E01, the shields are fluctuating, possibly losing power.
      The Asgard Beams use a somewhat similar method as the Superhives Plasma weapons, in that they attack the shield at one particular section, with all their power. That way they can pierce that section, if hit multiple times - the power core of the Ori ship can't compensate for that weapons fire.
      As for the Ori warships weapon versus a Deadalus-class ship: The intervall between shots is very high. If the shields can withstand the initial blast, they can reload and draw more power from the ships power reserves. Odysseys ZPM in The Ark of Truth proves just that, when the ship was able to withstand countless blasts. At the end, either the ZPM was depleted or the power conduits or shield emitters overloaded. The fact that they didn't move or shoot their weapons probably helped in sustaining the shields that long, as the power conduits were solely needed to move power from the ZPM to the shields.
      The fact that the Asgard Beam weapons were more effective against the Ori than the Wraith actually makes sense, in that they were specifically designed to do so by the Asgard. That's also why they held up that well against the Asurans, since they used similar tech (in principle) as the Ori. I would assume, that a sufficient amount of Asgard Beams pointed at the same shield coordinates could even breach Atlantis' city shield - because again, it is not a matter of raw power, because of how the power is getting to where it needs to be. The pipes can only pump a limited amount of water to it's destination at a time. That's why there is less water coming out of your tap in the kitchen, as opposed to the one at your bathtub.

      Well, I can give a plausible reason.
      Asgard Beam weapons are very powerful but also very power draining. So its possible that they draw most of their propulsion power to their weapons instead to ensure maximum damage but as you can see it didn't do much. Thus when the Wraith fired back they were still getting their propulsion engines back to full speed.

      @Nero X Have to agree. The last few episodes had some of the worst writing in the history of the show. When they cooperated with the Wraith back in season 2 the Deadalus was dashing around the battlefield, using her superior drives to flank the enemy hive. When either Carter or Landry were in command of 304-class ships, 4-5 energy beams in rapid succession were standard tactics. Now we got one...
      "Beam them out already!"
      "We can't get a lock, sir. The hive seems to be actively interferring with the asgard scanners!" (after all, why not? Normal hives can block transports INTO thier ships, why wouldn't the superhive be able to jam ALL transports in the vicinity? Just again powering up a well known feature.)
      "Damn. Hold position to cover the jumper. Fire all asgard batteries at full power! Upload target pattern into the missile battery and fire nukes the moment they are locked on! Aim all railguns at their weapon emplacements and rapid fire!"
      *proceeds to burry the superhive in a salvo of plasma beams, nucleat detonations, and railgun slugs*
      "They're hit. High confidence that we've taken out several of their offensive batteries! Wait.... Sensors indicate a new power buildup!"
      *Superhive proceeds to fire its remaining battery into the Deadalus by surprise, severely cripping its Asgard weapons, before retreating*
      Later, briefing in Atlantis: "That was close. We hit them with all we had, and it still came out to barely more than a draw. I do NOT want to see what this thing is capable off when its upgrades are finished."
      There, easy as that. The superhive would've been a much more serious threat if the Deadalus had seriously unleashed all it could offer, and STILL failed to destroy it. Instead..... we got one pathetic shot.

      There might also be a different problem: Nuclear Missiles were not effective in the past due to the presence of Darts to intercept those missiles. Here, the ship was probably already preparing to jump to hyperspace, on a lone mission to another Galaxy, far away from any resupply of Darts. So releasing the Darts to intercept any missiles was not an option. Staying there would've been a risk at the moment - while the Deadalus was not of any risk to them in the long run. So aborting the fight and going to hyperspace was the reasonable choice here.

    You know, the Daedalus-class of warships were made out to be these agile, small ships compared to others in the series, with relatively powerful weapons and ships which made it able to punch above its weightclass.
    But we rarely see the ship use that small and agile-advantage. It often just stays perfectly still, exchanging fire with hive ships. When they got the asgard-beam weapons, you could argue that they no longer needed to dodge anything any longer...
    But imagine in this scenario, if the Daedalus flew in close to the superhive, so it couldn't use its main batteries, and shot it with successive beam-attacks at critical spots. I think that would have made it a lot more effective

      @AndrewJamesWilliams 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      An ordinary hiveship would be destroyed by just three hits from the plasma beams but this hive was different its hull was much denser meaning the plasma dissipated on its armor too quickly to do any damage. As for the plasma taking out Ori ships that's actually due to a common weakness in Stargate shield technology, its good against the relatively blunt, concussive impacts of bolts but the focused piercing impact of a beam soon overloads them and with Ori ships they're very much glass cannons. Once their shields are down destroying them is easy.

    • @Astrotrain7
      @Astrotrain7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This may not be an in universe thing but my thinking is, the bridge is the hub of everything including power systems. The shields are tied into all the power systems so they are more resilient however that means when they receive energy they have to dissipate it which is not usually a problem against the Goa'uld or normal hive ships. However, the power of multiple ZPMs make the wraith weapons more powerful meaning the shields have to dissipate more energy. With all this energy that is being sent through the wires or something similar they are going to get very hot and therefore may spark because the heat has broken the insulator and so very big sparks.

    • @jacobkleinsasser5658

      Daedalus first gets mentioned in The Siege (Part 2) as the sister ship to Prometheus (she is _not_ a sister ship but the lead ship of a new class). And her onscreen reveal is in the battle above Lantea in The Siege (Part 3).

    Lamest stargate space battle ever. The whole thing is so poorly made. I mean, didn't he say something about hitting it with all they have? So why wait. This isn't chess, you don't take turns firing. And then the battle with darts over area 51? Why did they use just F-302's? The USA has jet fighters and SAMs. Just dreadful.

      Well, they didn't move out of arrogance. They have the best Asgard shields, and knew they could take a barrage like that from a normal Hive with ease. It was only right before they hit did he fully realise how wrong he was.
      That is my excuse for this scene anyway. The real answer has already been said, it was the cancellation and the rushed finale.

    • @MrSec84
      @MrSec84 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Prior to this they'd also blocked a shot, with the shields holding.
      Sure the Hive was firing at a Puddle Jumper but I guess Caldwell had no reason to believe a barrage like that would be enough to really do that much damage.
      He should have followed through with firing more Beam shots, missiles and even Rail Guns, while using the 304's smaller size to outmanoeuvre what should be a very slow, cumbersome vessel.

    This episode always pissed me offf, for one thing more power does not give the wrath impenetrable shields and secondly the wrath shots do track so why the heck did Daedalus stay still to take the hits ?

    • @Dubanx
      @Dubanx 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Wrath ships don't have shields, rather they use incredibly dense armor to survive enemy fire. The thing is, the ships are so heavy that they would tear themselves to pieces under their own inertia if they tried to move without inertial dampeners. So rather than maintaining shields, wraith ships expend an enormous amount of energy just to keep the ship from tearing itself apart.
      The limiting factor to how large and densely armored a wraith ship can get is how much power it has to hold the ship together. ZPMs let the ship get many times heavier before it destroys itself under its own weight. At least, that's the explanation.

      Shields in Stargate are described as defusing energy. If the shield is weak,, the energy of the blast bleeds through to the ship. That energy is what cause surges inside and the explosion's of the equipment.

    It seems they didn't have enough money for computer graphics of space combat with elements of evasion. It's funny to see how a human cruiser calmly takes on a volley from a Wraith super battleship, without dodging. I was waiting at least for the engines to fail and go into hyperspace, and then exit hyperspace again and attack a vulnerable place again. Absolutely the advantage in speed should have provided two Earthlings ships with at least severe damage to the super battleship.

    One of the weakest parts of this show was the spaceship battle scenes. They were all made exactly the same was: they shoot the blasters at each other, and while "shields are holding" there are some weird sparks inside the ship and it's being reported that systems are no longer working, one after another. Then when the battle is over, Sam Carter goes and unplugs and plugs wires in the walls, and this somehow fixes everything. This is almost as lame as when in 3d shooter games, you find a medical kit, use it and it heals all the wounds you've gotten before:)

    Comment about many SciFi shows and movies... Why is it that a ship can take a hit sufficient to cause sparks in electrical systems and not obliterate the ship, kill its crew, or total its systems?
    Say you are in a metal box with a computer and monitor reading this. Someone hits the box repeatedly with a cattle prod to the point at which the computer starts arcing and sparking by itself. Ok... why are you alive? You are a lot less able to survive anything which would fry a computer. Why is the computer still functioning? Anyone ever seen a computer function after literally sending out a shower of sparks?
