Replacing more front end parts on the 2019 Sierra Denali 2500HD build Part 5

  • The 2019 Sierra Denali 2500HD is back. The roof is painted so we can put some of that back together. My arms are tired from trying to steer this monster without help so we need to replace the gear box. I did find a surprise so we have some additional body parts to change. Then we will get the rest ready for paint!

GM finally gives us a real top post battery and then takes it all back with that insane junction block...

That was a massive amount of work to replace the fender and also the gearbox which we call a steering box here in Australia. Shouldn't be too long now and the truck will be finished. All you need to do is not sell it and you'll have a nice almost new truck to replace your existing one. And remember, this truck has all the extras that you've always wanted, so hang on to it tightly. All the best from Queensland Australia.

my buddy works at GM parts in MI he told me years ago that black primed parts were designated to go to service parts and olive as you call it were slated for assembly plants but he said sometimes GM is short in service parts and grabs them from the line group parts bin, but he also said never the other way as some service parts have imperfection in them.and the line will not allow that. You will see almost all inter structure parts are Olive too.You can feel more comfortable about quality when you get a Olive colored parts as they are normally slated for assembly plant.and sometimes they send end of line leftover part to part ware house when that body style changes Just find that interesting .

GM sent us parts managers a bulletin a little while back stating that we may now receive Olive primed service parts instead of Black primed.

Never before though. Auto body guys get pretty touchy about using that stuff before you bring it to them. Ever want to see someone lose their temper, watch a body guy find fish eyes in the vehicle they just painted because of something like that. Father in law has been doing autobody for years. Stories he tells me are pretty funny.

It's so sad more "painters" don't understand the concept of removing those items that should not be painted. They had rather take more time taping up rather than remove those pieces. Because when they tape up, they then must take time to remove unwanted paint.

Hey, I just thought of a great idea for the roof edges that fit in the channels! Just fill the channel half full of some kind of expanding glue, put the roof in place and fill in the rest of the channel with more glue. Put the channel trim in on top and clamp it down. Take the rest of the day off. You're welcome.

9:28 Since the 2000's or so GM has been using a sealed power steering pump cap. If the steering wheel is turned many times with the engine off, fluid from the gear is pushed into the reservoir causing pressure to build.

Put kryptonite brand steering , ball joints, and hub assemblies on gm trucks from 99 to 19 and you will never replace again. I buy mine from the dmax store. I have the upper A arms lower ball joints, inner outer tie rods, steering linkage, and hub assemblies on my 04. Love them massive parts for reasonable prices. I will never have to buy again. Lifetime warranty no questions asked. Love the channel.

3:14 you pulled the over flow coolant reservoir out. FYI as a GM technician, the lower part of your reservoir is low on fluid, likely from an earlier recall or from factory that way. It's a pain to fill, as it gets fluid from the very top of the fill hole and runs through a small passage in the seam of the reservoir. If you take the side cap off, plug the overflow tube and slowly fill the reservoir from the top keeping the fluid right at the top, it will take about 3L very slowly, don't stop or it will air lock. When it runs out the side cap it's full.
