It looks to my eye to be clear premask/prespacing tape for vinyl lettering. It so, fairly common at sign shops. I only know of white and yellow plottable paint mask vinyl from Avery not clear. If so, its readily available from sign suppliers in various tack levels.

Something like that may work as well.
This particular film is designed to hold up to harsh solvents without leaving glue residue behind.
Most people doing DIY style work are using water based paints so it’s not a concern and would be a waste of the materials to get anything more than your everyday Frisket.

I do not completely understand the process of blacking out inserts.. Do you do it so that the paint enters the crevices? And in that case, how do you later remove the paint without damaging the recently completed work. I admire your work. thank you so much for your content

Appreciate it. The playfield has already been in progress for a few weeks so what you see in the video is work being performed to complete it not everything that went into it.
The gaps were previously filled in by other rework and clearcoat sessions similar to the one captured this time around making for a smooth surface for those repaints.
We will start on a used playfield from scratch when we get into TZ 3 and 4 as 1 and 2 start closing out.

Yes all games I restore have owners but I will have a custom Kiss build coming up on here that I will do on speculation beside a standard one.
