- Having flown this on the water a few times I have grown tired of the thing getting on step and veering to the left or right on its own, so I ventured down the path of doing a mod so this thing so it has a water Rudder. I hope this helps you if you need a water rudder too.
You can find this model at:

Float flying is great. I flew at my local lake for 5 years and loved it, 2011 to 2026. Brilliant video, thanks for sharing it.
thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it. I have not done a float fly in like a year, I really need to get this one back out.
Wish you had made a video of making the mods, nice job
What an awesome modded cub!
Thanks! This is so fun to fly and on 4s it jumps off the water.
Nice mix with pontoons. I do that on snow. I fly 4s with a 40 Amp ESC .
Nice 👍
They were 18A ESC's until they went to the SMART ESC which is the 30A 3S-6S ESC that they use in a bunch of planes. Basically lets you run 4S with the 30A ESC with the stock prop or something similiar but not too aggressive bc with 4S it gets close to its limit but ive never had any issues.
Then theres a 50A version for the 4S/3S bigger planes, and then the 60A or 100A Avian ESC in the Timber Evo and above basically. It gives you thrust reverse for short landings, heavier duty ESC in general, and i think a tiny bit more telemetry.
The 30A smart esc that came in my Apprentice S and also an AR631, not the FC & remote receiver like the carbon cub s+/s2 use still. Its basically an STM32F4 FC in there with a gyro and barometer, thats why it gives you the altitude telemetry, but not the speed as well.
Also the carbon cub s does not give you basically any down elevator in the stock SAFE mode thats about the only bad thing about the setup. Anything above 40% automatically adds up elevator in Safe or Intermediate mode..
Its very frustrating because as soon as you switch it to expert mode in works perfectly fine. So its not a servo travel issue or elevator adjustment. I have two of them and one is stock but still both of them require almost full down trim to be able to fly it confidently and also be able to dive and do more things like i can with my completely stock Apprentice S 1.2m except for bigger and better quality landing gear wheels. I dont use the gps or the Las either.
So i would it rather of came with a standard spektrum safe/as3x RX like the AR630/1 or the AR637T, or even one of the newer style RX's that come with the NX6/8 combo's..
Agreed with all of this!
Good job ! Can you pot a link to the small servos ? Thanks!

I did the same thing!😂 You know what they say, “ Great minds work alike”
my servo is now failing, I think its due to water damage. do you have any advise on how to water proof the next servo?
@@dustinhiett9594 Use CorrosionX u can spray electronics and completely submerge them and it works great! It is well worth it to buy a can.
@@stallspeedrc7657 Thanks for the Tip.! I will be buying a can or two.
did you put the lights in or was it that way when you got it... if you did can u tell me what set you used thanks
I did put them in this plane. Link to the kit below. FYI. I did have to solder in some wire to extend them to reach the controller from the wing tips.

What paint did you use for the floats?
Rust oleum I think it was “sunset yellow”
@@dustinhiett9594 Thanks!
I’d like for this dude to program my dx6e. Fucking throw rates and kanyflin pins and ugggh.
If only
Ugg. I hate adding weight. But great vid. Been debating floats as I live on a pond but 🤷♂️.
But flying off water is a whole new experience. I am so glad I did it.
