    I learn more from mistakes sometimes then from when things go right. Big aha moment for me! I use SAFE mostly as a rescue switch when I get into trouble from time to time. So after minor crash/repair and feeling like I upgraded the plane with metal servos even if they were reversed on the transmitter it never dawned on me that SAFE/AS3X would work in the wrong direction. I only tested that they were active after the repair. And went I got into trouble and flipped the SAFE switch and gave myself a major crash -- I could not figure out why!! Now I know. Thank you Brian! Keep doing dumb things like the rest of do. Love the channel.

    @jazzpiano26 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah so I am new to the hobby and I kinda went in on it hard lolz ive been at it for almost a month and have broken 3 planes completely to the point of no return XD, 2 of them were the small P-51's and one was a 400mm G-Ncub (that yello crop duster looking plane). So I went out and bought the 800mm Corsair F4U Warbird and I've been through 8 Props and still have yet to get that dang thing up in the air! So to appease myself from all my failures I ordered, and as of yesterday received, the P-51 Voodoo! Actually got that idea from your review video of that little thing. I have had 2 successful flights and 0 crashes with that little thing! I mainly crash on takeoffs, like with that F4U warbird, but once i'm in the air im solid, I can figure 8, i've done a few cornholes, I even did an upside down 3d pass with my 2nd P-51 that is now basically in the graveyard of planes hahaha so I'm very familiar with crashing but it's just part of the deal lolz. Oh and I bought the Ultimate 3D bi-plane which i believe is a 1.2mm and it is being delivered tomorrow XD I know its bigger than the Corsair but after watching your video review on it (even though im a beginner) I just had to have it hahaha! Well thankyou for all your very informative and engaging videos as I get super deep into this awesome hobby!
    P.s ~ The impersonation's you do are absolutely hilarious(especially your trump impersonation lolz its spot on!), and I crack-up whenever you are talking planes and the inferences you make towards your wife off of those 'relatively modest' comments

    Try low-heat on a heatgun or hair dryer to remove the "wrinkles" or "smooshed" painted area. On EVA Foam and latex painted crafts and props it knocks the dents right out. Could be worth a try.

  • @AirVexedRC
    @AirVexedRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video and good job with the repairs. However, I think you've still gotta fix that motor. It shouldn't push back that.
    Pull off that prop adapter and look closer at the motor hub. Your motor is pushing back because the E-clip has pulled forward out of the slot on the hub. So, the inside and outside motor stators are sliding apart when you push back and then pulling back together to the proper forward position when you release. This just happened to me last week in a similar ground impact situation.
    Putting the E-clip back in place will also fix that pitch change you started to hear after the first repairs.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, gotta "Factory Reset" then you can make it a PNF for all intents and purposes. I ended up throwing in one of these and it went the SAME direction as stock servo that I broke Emax Servos amzn.to/2KNstdw

    I enjoyed your unbox and build as I always do, had my say like I always do, and I got me another SR22. I must say, as massive an E-Flite fan as I am (and have been since the XPS P-47 and P-38 with geared brushed motors and Nimh packs 20 years ago) I was disappointed by the finish on this beauty. E-Flite really design their products well so that minimal fine detail is required but on this new Cirrus because they added so much fine detail there is a lot of fluff and mold material, rough edges and unrefined detail, a little is not unusual but there's a lot on this so a good amount of trimming with a blade and paint touch up is required. Other than that it is as solid, stable and hardy as any E-Flite winner...as soon as you put a better looking pilot in .

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You aren't wrong, but I didn't "notice" it myself. I do think some of the, what SHOULD be very tight joints, could be refined a bit...wing to fuse connection point....but I LOVE the plane.
      Was disappointed that they use a single PLASTIC GEAR SERVO on the Rudder + Steerable Nose gear servo....
      When I replaced mine, I used a Emax Servos amzn.to/2KNstdw , but wish I could have put a 1.5 times bigger servo in there.

  • @deandagner
    @deandagner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Definitely happens to the best of us lol. This thing is definitely a good aircraft. Great flying! It's always very entertaining haha.

    Hi Brian thanks again for another awesome vid. I have my eyes on this Cirrus. My question to you: You mentioned this isn't the right plane for a new pilot. Can you help me understand what's at risk here? Any cirrus tendencies that you just don't see on a stable plane like the Apprentice S2 for example? Also, do you have a list of planes that you absolutely recommend for beginners? Thanks!!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Compared to the Apprentice or Apprentice "Mini" this plane is downright HARD to fly - but only compared to one of the easiest planes to fly that's ever been released ;) The Cirrus is just not going to be very forgiving....and that's not an exaggeration. It behooves us to talk as many people into buying this as humanly possible, so don't get me wrong, we WANT you to buy it, but we feel our mission (or at least PART of it) is to help newer pilots avoid the heartache of making a bad choice early on. That's NOT to say you couldn't do it as a beginner, but you'll be in SAFE.
      If you're motivated, you can do whatever you want - but just give it some thought. We want you to win, WILE we win ;)

    I bought the first version of this bird from some one on Facebook marketplace for $60 dollars. The guy said the only thing wrong with it was to his knowledge, a bad aileron servo. Upon further investigation, I found the ailerons we're fine, the problem was the same servo you're fighting with!
    Taking the defective one out was easy, but putting it back in, it definitely played with your man feelings to the point of making you curse the idiots who designed the freaking thing!

      @@BrianPhillipsRC So I bought the Cirrus and it IS beautiful (especially at dusk flying across the grass farm field against the setting sun!). I stripped the same rudder/nose servo -- TWICE! But thanks to you, I replaced it, including shaving off the plastic a bit. Felt so accomplished since it was my first repair! I scrolled to see your suggestion on metal gear servo, but I have a few questions. 1) Do I need to replace ALL the servos with metal gear or just this rudder/nose that's giving me trouble? Will it affect balance or CG or flying if I replace only one? 2) The original is 9g and the Emax is 12g -- does that matter? Assuming not since you recommended it. 3) How do I know if these Emax's are "reversed"? My first repair was an exact same model from the hobby shop and reversed. I can't see if these Emax's are reversed, but I see you said they ran the right direction. I just want to get everything in order and make sure I get the right size, etc. I appreciate the help!!

    Love your videos! About a month into the hobby and I have the Turbo Timber Evo. Starting my wish-list for my 2nd plane and can't decide between Maule and Cirrus! Not really into too much 3D stuff right now. I do like general aviation and do like aircraft lights. Enjoy relaxing flights with a bit of sport. My airfield has short grass. Eventually I'd love to get both, but which is more fun for a second plane? Maule or Cirrus? Is the Maule very similar to the Turbo Timber Evo? Or is there enough difference to enjoy? Same with Cirrus. Thank you to anyone who can help!

    Brian , I just had to replace rudder servo in a cherokee,ordered the same servo in the plane , but received a different size servo with the same part number. Horizon told me they have changed the servo and need to modify the servo tray. SO why not change the servo plate to receive the other size. I had to grind down the top of the hold down screws of the original servo because the clearance on the new servo would not except it but also the new screws that came with the new servo had smaller thread size so they were unusable. So at some point the new size servo will show up in the new plane. I tried to put a metal gear servo in place of the original servo but horizon does not have a double sided servo arm like the one that comes in the plane to fit the metal geared servo ? So why does horizon not put a metal geared servo in for the rudder and steering because it gets so much back play from the nose gear from flying of f of a grass field. I guarentee that the replacement place geared servo will fail again. I think the nose gear wheel pant causes more stress on the rudder servo from the grass , more surface area than just a wheel.

Or maybe someone can guide me on how to modify the servo arm so that I can connect the emax metal gear. Thanks!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If this happens, you can fix it, but you might just reach out to Horizon Hobby and let them know what's going on, and see if they'll make it right to you.
      Now it's easier than ever, but you might have to update the FIRMWARE to reset the FORWARD PROGRAMMING, then just pretend it's a PNP plane. Watch one of our more recent PNP planes (We do them all the time) and follow along. We'll show how to do it. Doesn't need the be this EXACT plane, but when it comes to the FLAP settings, we should cover that in the Unbox, Build, and Radio Setup for this plane (in the playlist).
      We too had this happen on a UMX Cirrus, which must have been a fluke, but it was a very VERY annoying fluke. They made it right to my buddy, but MADE him destroy the plane - WHY?!??!? (So I kept the dead plane parts, to this date - LOL)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Good quesiton - SAFE select is activated or AS3X is activated - you must choose one. Choosing to turn SAFE on and off is optional. This is where you will need to be weary of using a lower level transmitter.
      I believe you can BIND the plane to your Tx and fly it, but you will have to try and see if you can then make the switch assignment to turn SAFE on and off.
      When you're binding, there's a way to do with with the BIND PLUG - read that spot in the manual for more information. You can find the manual from following our plane link, then scroll down - it's right there. Good luck Alex! I think you can get it done.
