As the great Jimmy Johnson once said while coaching at UM, "If he's going to be a high draft choice and sign for a lot of money, then I think he should stay here."
Texas was a middle-of-the-pack team who had no answer for a return to relevance until NIL removed all skill and strategy from program building which allowed Texas to just outright buy players through NIL agreements. They’ve finally returned to relevance through paying players, but they still lack the culture needed to win it all even though they have elite talent. They have the money they don’t have the heart. Sark was on the ropes leading the program until they allowed schools to buy players through NIL and he was able to flip the roster. Michael Taffe Should Leave Because His Draft Stock Might Be The Highest It Gets.. I Think Jonah Williams Could Have A Caleb Downs Type Impact As A Freshman (Derrick Williams & Jonah Williams At Safety Could Be Special)
1. Unfortunately, many fans do not consider those two aspects. Michael Taaffe earned All American honors this season, which clearly reflects his ability and talent. 2. However, with the likely return to good health of Derek Williams, the emergence of Jelani McDonald, and the development of Jordan Johnson-Rubell and Xavier Filsaime, not to mention the addition of Freshmen Safeties Jonah Williams and Zelus Hicks, the Safety position at Texas is extremely deep, with or without the return of Taaffe. 3. I personally think Taaffe should turn pro. 4. When players enter the transfer portal because they get recruited over, that is actually a good thing. To me, it's not a good thing when players remain in the program beyond their personal benefit and the team's benefit. 5. I am a fan of Quinn Ewers, Jaydon Blue, and Michael Taaffe. However, each of them turning pro would likely benefit the long term health of the Longhorns and them personally. "Hook Em"
Taffe is a guy a hope returns. My favorite player on the defensive side of the ball. The walk on to starter story, guy that every game you can see he gives it his all. He had some rough moments this year but we need a leader in the secondary next year
Agree. He was a heat seeking middle against OSU as well. Those rbs were simply able to dodge his explosion by hitting the next hole at last sec. But that guy plays smart, loud, puts his entire body into every play, and def leaves everything on the field. By far the most consistent player and leader on this team game to game. Always just seems to be involved in big plays whether in the run or pass game. You can bet he’s there Now pair ant hill and Tafte up with Makuba, Muhammad, and incoming freshman phenoms like Jonah Williams, Bo Barnes, Kade Phillips, my goodness. You could be looking at a secondary to rival the likes of our 05 defense with the griffins, Ross, etc. especially with the DL. I think our defense is about to get a whole lot crazier. Look for Jonah Williams to come in day 1 and be a run stuffing enforcer of a strong safety with Tafte and Makuba being those solar radars of the deep. Ant hill and Bo Barnes manning the centerfield. And big rangy lockdown corners on the ends, then to top it off, get pass Collin Simmons on one side with Landon Jackson and Vasek on the other. 1. I personally think every Longhorn player that has the option of turning pro should absolutely do so. As much as most of us fans would like to see good players return to improve the Longhorns football team, what would benefit the Longhorns long term is for players that can be drafted turn pro, so players that are being developed behind them get their opportunity to prove themselves. 2. Players like Arch Manning, Jerrick Gibson, Ryan Wingo, Jordan Washington, Neto Umeozulu, Connor Robertson, Daniel Cruz, Brandon Baker, Alex January, Ty Smith, Kobe Black, Santana Wilson, Wardell Mack, Derek Williams, Jelani McDonald, Jordan Johnson-Rubell, and Xavier Filsaime, among others need to be placed in position to compete to be factors on the Longhorns team, not continue to be reserves behind players that should be in the NFL. 3. I personally think Devon Campbell, Trey Moore, and Michael Taaffe could all be NFL Draft Picks. I think they could help Texas in 2025.
