  • Simply put, we need to keep in mind the habitat they evolved in, and try to replicate that in our aquariums.

    Absolutely correct and vital. CO2 and O2 exchange can only occur at the surface. Moving water continuously and at a strong flow rate is critical for tanks with large numbers of fish like those from the rift lakes. This makes power outages especially dangerous. It is wise to reduce numbers of fish to insure adequate exchange in the event water stops moving.

    Thank you so very much. I use lava rocks...lot of them😊. The place where i leave, more than ammonia i've to worry about heat. I lost 5 of my brichardies. I just couldn't get the temperature down. Kept doing water changes and ice bottles. Latent heat of water is high. Now i've removed the lid completely from 35°C it's now come down to 30.
    Thanks again for taking time out to reply to my queries. Much appreciated. Fan from India😊.

    Pretty awesome setup and video. I am a firm believer in keeping things simple and enjoying the fish. That said fish health has to be a priority, but our health and sanity should be our main priority.

      Disagree. You take these fish out of the wild and put them in your tank and YOU become thier life support. Its a big responsibility that not many take seriously. If you value your own well being above anything else that's all well and fine but then dont take on the care role of animals as they are so dependant on you.

    See the problem I have with this is they were born and raised in captivity they never lived in the wild near the shore

    • @AquaticLogic
      @AquaticLogic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thats very true, but over millennia they have evolved to live in shallow limnetic zones in the lake which are highly oxygenated (with respect to the air above the lake) and therefore do not have well developed gills. They can suffer hypoxia much sooner than other species of fish like carp, and bettas for example, and this is a function of its genetic evolution and is irrespective to its environment. Hope that helps.

    Very late comment, but thank u for this....as this is hardly discussed for Tropheus care regarding the dissolved oxygen content & constant surface agitation
