My roommate and I were watching clips from _Starrbooty_ last night for the first time in years. It's almost like introducing somebody to John Waters' _Pink Flamingos_ for the first time (I lost count of how many friends I've permanently damaged with _that_ movie). Few people know just how cautious RuPaul had to be with each move she made and every word she spoke to become a household name in the 1990's. Though she was instantly beloved and likely the closest we will ever see to a Disney-fied drag queen, her career was always incredibly fragile, as evidenced by the unfortunate Milton Berle incident at the 1993 MTV VMA's that nearly derailed her. The higher-budget remake of her no-budget trilogy of _Starrbooty_ films she made in the late 80's and early 90's was produced only a couple years prior to her finally agreeing to the reality-TV competition that would bring about her greatest mainstream success and she - nor anybody else - predicted she would have _any_ kind of a comeback, so she returned to the brash and often profane world most drag queens operate in around adults. And _Starrbooty_ has some _really_ concerning content that on more than one occasion ventures a bit close to softcore pornography. Would she have made the film as it is now if she had _any_ idea her greatest success was yet to come? Girl....Queens can get away with a lot more this time around _because_ of Ru's success in the 1990's, but I'm sure even _she_ would admit she'd have had second thoughts about it. It's amazing none of the detractors that want to marginalize drag again have never caught onto the film, but maybe it's a sign of the times that it hasn't.
Her talking about the laundry is so funny because she’s saying someone took her clothes out of the dryer but they aren’t even using it. So most likely, she waited so long to get her clothes that another person did a full load before she came back and she’s the victim here somehow😅
