You’re right about avoiding certain Rcs. I got a brushed Stempede at a steal price and got hooked. Is just a different experience. That Slash would look great with a HPI Charger body doing those Vin Diesel wheelies , 😆 (it doesn’t fit but with major mods it could make the off road charger). I’m tempting but nervous 😬 though. Good luck on your esc combo search. I actually got a copper head 14Series but have not put it to its full test. I did see other vid with great results taking 3s all day till you go with the 4s is when it starts to heat up.
Cooked your motor bearings. Sorry man. Definitely replace both. I am not happy with Traxxas electronics lately. Replaced the 4s esc twice in my v1 Maxx. And the motor for my x Maxx just did the same thing your slash did.. Not even a year old… don’t get me started on their tire foams.. 😂. Love my slash 2wd vxl. Was my first RC as an adult because of your build and did a lot of the same upgrades. Like you it’s one of my favorites. So much fun to bash almost anywhere. Try add 3 1/4 ounce stick on style tire weights to the front! I had this same problem,, now I can give it power and front end stays down,, and steering is way more responsive! Nice video,, keep ripping it and sharing my Rc bro.💪💪💯
Might have two problems there. I had a similar surging problem with my vxl, so I recalibrated the esc and that fixed it for me. Perhaps a bearing rebuild kit for the motor, or new motor if more damage has been done to magnets.
Just replace the bearings. Takes the same Bearings as the rest of the truck takes. My son-in-law had same issue. New bearings good as new if you didn’t run it too long. You are correct I am one person who found your channel because of that car. Mine is still stock and slow but we have a blast racing side by side on an oval track. I have several fast 4wd trucks and they are fun but the 2wd slash is my favorite now. Love your videos. Especially in the dunes in Michigan! Not too far from my house. Lol
All hobby wing max10 systems are on backorder. Maybe a castle sidewinder4 or copperhead10? I have a max10 sct 4000kv on back order for my rustler. And I agree I think it is a bearing in the motor. If the hobbywing doesn't come in by next week or so I am going to find a castle alternative.

I tried some mod1 gears in my rustler/slash-lcg and had the same issue. I bought all sorts of different sizes to try and in the end I just decided to go back to 48p until I get a more powerful esc/motor combo to be able to push those big heavy gears.
I have the same gear setup, with the 13 tooth pinion but a slightly smaller spur in my vxl slash. I think it has more to do with the gear pitch for some weird reason. I only run 2s and everything still gets pretty darn warm before I run a full battery through it.
It looks like the motor shaft is moving back and forth, like the bushing is worn out. If it's a bearing then it's broken or something. So it is running hot cuz the rotor is touching the stator under a load. That's just what it looks like
I would check all your soldering points. Pull the esc apart and also try a different motor if you have one. Top speed with that gearing should only be around 45 mph. This is not to much load on the system.... and as im writing this turns out it was the motor. You should check out some of the 30-50 dollar Amazon motor deals. I've had good luck with them.
You should be able to run the 19 tooth,I do,its running it on 3s instead 2 is the problem, that esc doesn't have enough amps as well,for me, I run 19/54,4000 kv hobby wing 120 Amp ,2s n it rips
Hey Nolan try a 83 spare gear and 23 tooth pinion I have no problems and it will fly and no overheat issues with my two wheel drive slash but most definitely weighed out front end down a little bit to keep it from whellen
I know what the problem is the motor bearings are completely done I've had this problem with my rustler 2wd and I had similar issues the bearings are the same size as the wheel hub bearings. Hopefully this helps 😁
that gearing is so high I'm not that surprised that your motor bearing burn out go with a super low KD motor and then gear it up a lot and you'll have no heat issues get the arrma kraton 4s motor trust me it's such a good motor honestly is the best motor that's what i have in my traxxas stampede make shute to get the v1 motor is way better then the new motors
@@RCKnockout it's more that you don't check if the motor is hot and keep ripping full throttle 😂 but you should 1000% get the arrma kraton 4s motor v1 it's so good on 2s lipo haven't tryed it on 3s only 2s and 4s runs good!!!

I'd suggest a Max8 and 2200kv combo. Good for 3s to 6s. Will handle whatever gearing you want to run all the way to 100+mph and it will stay cool.

Yes, indeed. You should swap out both motor and ESC. I would go for the Hobbywing Ezrun Max10-SCT + Ezrun 3660 combo if I were you. 👌

Use one of those revision kits from Traxxas, new bearings and bushes included. Cheaper than a new motor.

I don’t really use Telemetry…..I used it once on my Ultimate and it didn’t seem very accurate

I know what the problem is the motor bearings are completely done I've had this problem with my rustler 2wd and I had similar issues the bearings are the same size as the wheel hub bearings. Hopefully this helps 😁

I have the same issue. Over heating with a 3s it stops and goes and stops and goes. I’m gonna do a 4s swap
Bummer….the 3s system definitely gets too hot
You need to put some sticky wheel weights in the front tires to hold the front end down and then that baby will rip
If you are runnig the TQI Radio, turning on the traction managment hellps keep the front end down especialy tryin to get up to speed.
TSM is more for the gyro to keep it going straight
Ec and motor try to see what one to put in mine so you should change it up

honestly id just replace the motor. The VXL is a great system for the 2wd Cars. Underpowered for the 4x4s in my opinion!
