I used to think people were crazy the things they would tell me sometimes but I’m like you I’ve learned over the years that most of the time they know what their talking about. Yes it pays to listen I agree.

I too have been guilty of finding & rectifying an obvious issue and calling it done.
Definitely a great reminder to be thorough and get a full picture before closing out.

Easiest way to clean a spine fin is with a mapp gas torch and water. Especially with cottonwood buildup. Trane taught us that many many years ago.

I appreciate the video and honest dialogue at the end! I am also very glad to see that you did not use any chemical coil cleaner on that particular all-aluminum coil. Well done, you clearly know what you're doing.

I just cleaned a friend's system afew days ago. So dirty and wires a rats nest. Painted the outside with a paint used for roofing. Plan to make a fpy screen filter for outside to catch most of the dust.

Good advice! But 9 times out of 10 the customer says "I think the thermostat is bad." 😁

Always good practice to diagnose on a clean unit anyway.
The crappy part is now all blowers are using modules....

Customer interaction would be something awesome to hear your thoughts on. How do you approach customers with issues like a dirty coil? how do you explain your charges? How do you explain things like this where you thought in one direction, but then the unit steered you in another. These are some of the most difficult things that techs face on the jobsite. Even more than the service work itself.

I had a hunch that the field piece job link probes were water proof but never actually put it to the test. For example, cleaning a coil with the probes still connected, but now I know. Thanks buddy……also, I like the fact that you didn’t soak that Trane coil with chemicals to clean it. I have never needed chemicals on any residential coil.

We used to be an American Standard dealer. Then the supply issues started happening, and the evap coils were shipped empty, (not sealed), and many had leaks from the factory. We're not an American Standard seller any more.

I really enjoy watching your videos man! I recently obtained my contractors license after 10 years in the Army. I do mainly residential but want to get more into commercial as my license covers up to 25 tons in Florida. Do you know of any advanced RTU training classes you can recommend? I am planning on attending Carrier University in NC later this year for one. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Keep the videos coming! 😎💪🏽✌️

At the 1:30 mark of the video, I would say “ STOP”. This unit needs about 2 hours of cleaning BEFORE even bothering to troubleshoot anything.
This is the perfect job for “the kid” to do. Every shop has a new guy to get some experience .
It’s also not fair to the customers that DO keep up with cleaning because you have to waste your time while customers with REAL problems are waiting.

If those clamps hadn't blocked the lid, those clamps would have stayed there. Haha! That's how we technicians lose our tools. Success!

The rls add in the beginning makes me bring up this, my only 2 supply houses in my local area has sold sporlan zoom lock/made by rls for years and for some reason both have now switched to selling zoomlock max and rls is not making them for sporlan anymore. Bullshit. No one has the jaws for the max fittings and no one's gunna shell out 1500 or more to buy a new set of jaws. Original rls made zoomlock was better fittings anyway,I wouldn't even use the max junk sporlan is selling. They look like the water fittings with a bigger o ring. Just figured I share that for anyone who may not know there's now 2 refrigerant press brands out there and the jaws are not compatible with one another. Guess I gotta find an online dealer now. Edit seems like there's another refrigerant press brand around now called streamline. Made in Korea they have a double. O ring style and obviously would need special jaws as well. Wtf
