This is a pure example of making something out of NOTHING. Barbie has always been a doll for girls, a way for children to get a sense of glamor in the most unachievable standards, and that’s the point. Dolls are to make children dream and think beyond their reality. Simple as that. Doesn’t need to be political. It’s up to the parents to guide the child where to go from there

exactly, just like supercar posters for boys. I had a Lamborghini Diablo and a Dodge Viper on my bedroom wall as a kid. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford either one of them, but it's perfectly normal to have inspirations and dreams like that, especially as a kid. After all, you need something to aim for as a kid even if you'll never get there. Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars.

It's not anti-men when audiences felt for the male. People loved Ken's role and are talking positively about him more than ever. It's called the Barbie movie, but Ken stole the show. Ken's now the one taking over pop-culture and memes.
The real message of the movie was about equality and all these stupid societal expectations we ALL feel pressured by at one point or another. We've all felt like we have to be perfect or we're not good enough. Good enough for who or for what? We don't really know, but we still feel it at times. That's why "I am Kenough" is trending. We've all been Ken.
TL;DR: For a movie that's supposedly anti-male, how tf is THE MALE of the movie the one trending in a good way? Ken has finally risen to pop-culture icon status thanks to the Barbie movie. This isn't what anti-male looks like.

I must chime in, I have worked for many year With Bricklayers...... I am a woman and spent some time as a helper. I mixed mud, hauled rocks, shoveled sand, installed scaffolding and supports for stonework, packed stones up several levels of scaffolding.... BUT I was absolutely NOT strong enough to be a bricklayer. That is a man's job, generally because of the upper body strength and core strength requirements to fulfill the duties, but also because of the shear stamina that is required! You gotta be tough to rock out with the big boys!

As a person who played with Barbies when I was real young- Ken has ALWAYS been a "fill in the blanks" kind of male. The center of Barbie's world are the people who play with the dolls. I had my Ken as a rough and rugged farmer- *or building houses, a vet- out working in the fields while Barbie fixed dinner. Ken was the lifeguard next to the pool (blue felt square) that saves Barbie and visa versa. Because Ken was left mostly to the child's imagination with a few outfits to play in Barbie's world. Often though, with many little girls... Ken was on the sidelines, waiting to be brought into play. -- and the movie reflects this. A movie that was made to be a spoof so they are making fun of the fact-- Ken was just a blank slate.

We built forts, explored woods, played ball until dark when moms/dads called us home. Imagine, in our poor neighborhood, there were about 20 + kids playing games and doing things without supervision...and we rarely got trouble. @jennykononenko2527 no, they don't. Because to think that would be stupid. For this one person, bricklaying was harder. For another person, they might struggle a lot more with caring. It's because as humans, we have this thing called individuality. We each have things we love and hate. Could you argue bricklaying is a more physically demanding job? Yes, you could successfully argue that. But a job being more physically demanding doesn't automatically make it overall more difficult. At least you don't have to often watch people you've cared for die as a bricklayer. My dad is a train driver, a job far less physically demanding than a bricklayer, but he's also had multiple jumpers decide to use his train as a suicide weapon. He's had to watch a body explode all over his cab window. And it's really affected him over the years. I also have a friend whose job was to pick up the globs of flesh left over on the tracks. Again, not at physical as a bricklayer, but I'd argue much harder on the mind.

No, the movie is basically just feminist propaganda. It litteraly starts off with some little girls playing with their barbie dolls and then they start bashing the barbie dolls saying "We don't need to be mothers anymore!!" Then the movie also centers around women not needing men and hating men aswell (Ken is basically the antagonist in the movie and barbie hates him). On top of all that, many characters in the movie are played by transgender people, essentially giving the message that boys can be better girls than girls themselves, which is an attack not only on girls but also on boys.
I pray that parents have the sense and moral foundation to not take their little girls to watch this movie. Scary times we're living in that this kind of garbage is what's popular.

Women get their own movies like this where they’re allowed to shit on men, but we don’t get the same privileges. Most of the time, in divorce cases, mothers get custody. If a woman accuses a man of a crime, she will be taken seriously and the man will be punished even if he’s innocent. There are entire days and months dedicated to women.

@@nobodythenobody9779 You didn’t understand a thing. If you are referring to the fact that Barbies rule in barbieland: That’s because that’s how almost every child played. There is no complain about men. In the real world some men see Barbie (-> a woman) just as some kind of object, most of powerful position are owned by man. On the other hand the equality is presented too, woman are allowed to become a doctor etc. which they weren’t years ago. Ken just brings back the rule of men to Barbieland. But I don’t see where exactly the movie is anti male. The Barbies rule due to the fact that’s how children played with Barbie, that has nothing to do with anti-Male. In fact, the movie shows that it is not right, if only one gender has the whole power. And it also shows stereotypes. The Barbies represent stereotyp girls and women, just like they would be based on prejudices, loving pink, having girls nights, care for their appearance etc. As soon as the Kens rule they represent the stereotypical behavior of a man based on prejudices, showing off their muscles, love to explain things to a woman and so on. Not to mention that the movie picks up other topics as well, criticizes that a Barbie looks “perfect” and can have a bad influence on girls, that the society still needs to learn to respect another (-> laughing at someone because they wear “strange” clothes and catcalling), the character development of Barbie and Ken (both learning they don’t need someone else in their life, they are enough and perfect the way they are, they don’t need to change for someone, they can be more than they are at the moment etc.), the critic of Mattel and so on. Most comments I have read about the “anti-male” thing refer to the fact that Barbies still rule Barbieland in the end. But since Barbieland is still a fictional place based on how children play(ed) it makes perfectly sense. How and where exactly do you see misandry in this movie?

Ken's whole existential crisis is accurate depiction of what most men go through when they don't feel appreciated. And it's part of why men are abandoning commitment in this modern age because society has done a very terrible job at teaching young boys that they're more than their ability to provide. They're also people who deserve to be loved and appreciated. Manospheres have been fear mongering and taking advantage of hopeless young men by playing the same game the toxic feminists are playing. Teaching them to be resentful for things not going their way. And both sides are going to lose eventually. I feel grateful I have a positive feminine mother and a masculine father who taught me what it means to be a good man and what to expect from a good woman.

I find it interesting that it seemed to portray both patriarchy and matriarchy quite well. I thought that was done with intention? Like both worlds aren't fair. It'll only get better if people actually work on it. I did get bummed that they didn't make a perfect happy ending where all Kens, Barbies, and Alan can live equally, but what type of fantasy is that? Maybe they brought in some level of truth into it. Barbie Land is just the real world in reverse and shows (in reverse) the struggles of overcoming matriarchy/patriarchy.
The Kens are not going to have it easy to be equal in a society where Barbies have the power and control. Same way women had (and are - I know some people don't believe this, but you can at least acknowledge they did have it hard to be equal) struggles to be equal to the men in society. It didn't happen overnight and we have not seen the happy ending of our own real world.
Since it focuses on Barbie mostly, the view of the matriarchy will skew the perspective of the movie, no?

It’s a movie about dolls. It keeps true to the franchise of Barbie and how Ken was never supposed to be forefront. He was actually an accessory to Barbie because boys typically didn’t play with Barbie and needed to be represented in careers.
The great thing about movies is that people take away different things, especially with psychological and emotional pieces. Some people view barbie as a very important political piece and focus on that while others look at it as a metaphor for growing up and seeing Barbie’s innocence as the broken innocence of an aging woman. Not just aging women but an aging human. I’m sure everyone has/will at some point experience a realization with the aging body and mind and the heaviness of human emotion. It happens when we grow up and it can be scary seeing the body morph as well as the mind.

As for "taking the easy way out," I'm not sure what you mean. We should all choose suitable careers for ourselves as individuals, given our unique skills. The humour in every man being "just Ken" relies on an appreciation of irony. It's not a comment on men, it's a comment on a side-kick character in children's games.

It's such a wild coincidence that zero franchises aimed at boys ever dare to denegrate the female characters in those franchises out of irony. It only ever happens to men

Barbie is a stereotypical girl who likes makeup, fashion and has a boyfriend who happens to be Ken, no degradation here.
Most boys want to be super hereos while little girls want to be princess with a prince.
So why would they even include females in boy toys franchise unless she’s a super hero.
Also it could be that, it’s not expected for a lady to be single especially Barbie

@@DB742 Barbie franchise have always portrayed Ken as a character with not much deep development. He’s just Barbie’s boy.
It’s not degrading in any way as the franchise is made for girls mainly. Why would they focus on Ken?
I would not compare the Barbie movie which is a parody of the actual Barbie doll with other action movies which seriously tells the story about super heroes.
I think if they wanted to make Barbie live action it would be kid friendly, this one is PG-13 and made for the generation of girls who played w Barbie in the early 2000s

Well this is why I can't always agree with the 'right' side of politics. Not everything made is an attack on men or "girl power" concept. In the Barbie world Ken was always the "underdog" as it's Barbie"s world. Just don't watch it if you don't like it. It's not an attack on men it's just a movie mostly fiction.
