That music change at "and esitinien brings the story of heavensward itself" got me 😢. Also: esitinien buying anything 🤝 kiryu doing any scam-adjacent substory. Great video as always!
When you mentioned Estienien and fishing, my mind went to role quests. And this can extend to the rest of the scions as well. With Dawntrail's theme of "summer vacation," I feel like the writing could put in some WoL x Scion shenanigans in there. Estinien for fishing, G'raha for culinarian, Alphinaud for alchemy, Tataru for weaver, etc... If not, it could make for some gold fan fiction material!
I love this idea, until I remember that in the combined crafter/gatherer quests Alchemist and Culinarian go together with Culinarian usually taking the lead. And I don't want my alchemy to be a restaurant tour with G'raha!
Teaching all the important things, like defending what you value, properly vauing your friends, and smartly spending your money--okay maybe not that late one
Venat didn't have to sunder the world because of the final days. She had to sunder it because of Zodiark. He dwarfed her power due to being infinitely more powerful due to the amount of souls in him. She could not beat him and she knew even if she could, it would just return the final days. Sundering was the only option within her powerset that would stop him and keep the final days at bay. This all had to be done while the convocation were actively trying to murder an entire planet worth of new soul carrying intelligent beings (I'm not sure but this timeframe is possibly when the varied races of the world (Lalafell, Roegadyn, Hyur, Elezen etc.) came into being as they would repopulate just to be sacrificed. Sundering saved lives and she didn't have the benefit of a large number of "good" choices.
I grossly simplified that whole debate in the interests of getting to the part of relevance, but yeah, rendering Zodiark inert but present was a very big factor to the sundering, along with the notion of 'only sundered people can manipulate dynamis', and it's hard to tell which if either was the primary motivator. The people who argue against the sundering basically just argue that wasn't necessary, because the upcoming sacrifice that the sundering stopped was fine (or at least, you don't know that it wasn't) and there wouldn't have been any others after that. This idea isn't borne out by the game itself, of course, but the angle I was using as a jumping-off point was that, even if you think that the Ancients could've overcome all those crises and then gotten to Ultima Thule (which is a BIG ask), they still couldn't have stopped Meteion, because standing in front of them there is a gate only Estinien could open.
Continuity logistics aside, it is cool. I really liked seeing all the job quest NPC cameos in Endwalker, even if they're much, much smaller-scale. They probably could use someone like Sevestre from the AST storyline without breaking continuity. That'd be fun.
Another side Estinien could take is the dragon side. He's quite bro with Vrtra, he helped rescued both Tiamat and Azdaja, a few of these dragons even say he's like Nidhogg, it's as if he's slowly replacing his long dead family with his archenemy's. Or maybe some of Nidhogg's soul or memories linger after their fusion. Anyway, if there's a conflict between the scions and one of Nidhogg's brood siblings, Estinien could side with the dragon, as weird as the statement would sound out of Heavensward.
I disagree with the “doesn’t like Alphie to the point….” I think he sees him as a sort of replacement for the little brother he lost. And Alphie sees him as the elder brother he did t know he needed, because the dragoon will give him the unvarnished truth and opinion on things. And - this was kinda neat. I was idly complaining that Esti was always kind of aloof from the group, always standing a little separate from them. One of my FC members said “watch where his eyes go: in group shots like if they’re all standing in Radz, he is always where he can see Alphinaud at some angle.” Since then I can’t unsee that. So I see you “Esti as boss fight” and raise you a “we will be fighting him with Alphinaud at our side, again.”
I went a bit back and forth on that comment about Alphinaud, but I think that the core of things is true: while he's probably closest to Alphinaud (although Zero might be climbing those ranks), he's ultimately not close enough to any Scion to make his decision based purely on friendship. He's gonna pick the side that he thinks is right, regardless of who else is there, and the juiciest fruit of that approach is definitely him going up against Alphinaud.
I'm so glad you made this video. I honestly missed the unspoken message of things like the eye for an eye doctrine both sides had in Heavensward and the literal eyes gouging that set off the history and story, and Thordan literally weaponizing Haldrath, a legendary hero of the people of Ishgard. As you say, they weren't really subtle about it but somehow i missed it in the moment. I'm glad to have learned more about how impactful Estinien is, and would love a friendly duel with him in Dawntrail (again, technically, since i leveled dragoon)
Honestly, this video is the first thing to get me actually excited for Dawntrail. (...and maybe the first thing to get me to care about Estinien. Sorry, I was rushed through Heavensward and didn't care much about it >->.)
You pretty much summed up why Nidhogg is my fav villain in 14 is in how he talks. But really all Estinien needs is the House Fortemps earrings and the dude would be wearing all of Heavensward. But that's a thing my Miqo does lol. Oh my Beerus he is like Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2. I do hope we get to fight Estinien. It would finally make my character like him. A fun rival is something she needs. Zenos wasn't fun and Ranjit could have been he was Thancred's. Great vid. I personally think he could start getting into Hunt Trains.
Like how I love a questline that shouts its point from the rooftops, I also love a villain with only one dimension, but that dimension being very loud. And that's Nidhogg. And Estinien wearing the earrings of one of the High Houses would actually be a pretty nice addition to his design, now that I think about it.
@@EinDose Nidhogg is so loud and one note, that if he legit dragged himself out of the seven hells to fight us out of pure hate I'd just throw on the sound track to Bleach and love every second of it. I went from not caring about ulimates to trying to find a group clear Dragonsong war over night. (So far can't even get 4 people due to my weird timezone and working hours.) But no I liked Ranjit but like I said he's Thancred's thing, and I was more upset we fought him after Thancred had his one v one with him. It would be out of no where Freeza's final battle went from Goku to being about fighting Piccolo. Still cool but really not fitting the story right now. Or if Zechs went from Heero's rival to Duo. I keep feeling his head is missing something so yeah high house earrings work. Why I went with the ones from the Vault. Been glamouring them on my main since I noticed it was the red unicorn.
WARNING: 6.5 SPOILERS BELOW . . . . . okay now that I've finished the 6.5 MSQ I feel incredibly confident in saying that 7.0 Estinien Arc is gonna involve him trying to see if he can make wearing board shorts his whole personality. That treasure map adventure made him so ready for Island Time that he dipped out of saying goodbye to the WoL so that he could run to the Great Work and get a head start on a base tan (which, 6.55 prediction, will end with us visiting him at the Risensong Quarter in the hospital because you can't go straight from full body armor everywhere into no shirt no shoes no problem, you have to work up to it.)
So Estinien is powerful and I think you can make the argument of whether he is as or more powerful than us, but power scaling will always be dubious beyond what order of magnitude a character sits in. I think his dialogue option in the rising stones post ew celebration is meant to imply though that we are both the scion's weapon of choice. He might be able to assert more force, but we act as a force multiplier for what ever group we're put in.
I’m a big Estinien fan so this was a super fun video to watch! I wonder if there are any dragons in Tural? It would probably be retreading so I wouldn’t want a lot of focus on them, but I’m fond of Estinien as The Dragon Guy. I wonder if the WoL will be able to jump back and forth between the factions in Dawltrain? Like, well be working for both sides. I feel like the dev team wouldn’t want to lock anyone out of character interactions and development… 🤔
I could definitely see bouncing between the factions for that reason, but it'd feel a little bit like it's not respecting the stakes, y'know? Granted, I'm saying that without knowing what the stakes are. And I don't think there's enough dragons LEFT for there to be any in Tural! The only First Brood with an unaccounted-for horde is Azdaja, and I think she might just not have one.
We can debate whether the sundering was justified, but you are 100% wrong that those like me who don’t think it was justified are acting in “bad faith”. The writing team just didn’t do a good enough job of justifying the mass killing of everyone imo. An extended analysis is done here if you want to hear the arguments: th-cam.com/video/fsk412wCrJY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RYe7x6nXGAododFC You might not agree with the conclusions drawn, but you’ll never again demean those of us who don’t think the writers justified the sundering as being in “bad faith”.

Is it a credit or discredit to Estinien that he's never beaten up any of the people who ripped him off?

I don't mind the idea, but... how are dragons involved in Tural? Whatever he's doing in Dawntrail involves going over there.
How were the dragons involved in Thavnair before 6.0? I expect we will find they are on every continent as the story goes on.
