Angel Dust by Faith No More. Not only my favorite album of the year, but my favorite album of the 90s.
Reality Check Epic sounds more in place on The Real Thing than it would on Angel Dust, but I still think you’ll like it. TH-cam “Midlife Crisis”, “Kindergarten”, or my personal favorite, “A Small Victory” if you like “Epic”. The rest of the album has some fairly bizarre experimentation while still retaining a strong sense of melody.
Saw them on this tour cycle- greatest show I’ve ever experienced!
@@someguy7424 I would say a lot of Mike Patton's other band, Mr. Bungle, leaked into this album. It's a weirder album, in any case.

@@alexandergilles8583 ... I went with Dirt because I thought was a slightly more complete album from beginning to end. There's a couple songs on RATM's debut that are just okay, whereas I love every single song on Dirt.
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 Yeah, totally. Just like Nirvana's Nevermind, the album contains all killers and no fillers. But Nevermind focuses more on melodies and simplicity in their music but this one is a dark and brooding masterpiece that inject a much higher level of complexity in their music combining with haunting melodies, which makes this an overwhelming all-time favourite grunge/heavy metal album for me
My favourite album of 1992 is *’Ingenue’* by k.d. lang. It’s an almost perfect album; swoonsome vocals, lush instrumentation and fabulous, melodic songs. The production is wonderful, it’s one of the warmest and most inviting records I’ve ever heard. She is a unique talent with one of the great voices - one of very, very few singers who sounds even better live than on record.
Runner up is *’Automatic For the People’* by R.E.M. - not one of my favourite albums by them but it’s still wonderful.
Patrick, I’m not totally surprised Automatic... didn’t take top spot for you. It seems to be one of those albums that appeals to all the casual mainstream fans (including myself) but perhaps slightly less to REM’s diehard followers.
Bryan Byrde I really liked it and listened to it a lot when it came out, but I think I’ve just heard many of those songs too many times. It’s that problem you get when TV producers want to soundtrack footage of starving orphans, “Cue ‘Everybody Hurts’!” It ends up being devalued through overexposure.

Rage Against The Machine- A complete change from what I was listening to at the time. No escaping the grooves, the unique guitar work, and the aggression. Loved a few albums from 1992. Clear favourite

Hollywood Town Hall has been one of my favorite albums ever since the day it came out! The opening piano part on Waiting for the Sun instantly transports me back to a long stretch of road between Fayetteville and Raeford on a sunny summer's day. Cruisin' home from work. Priceless!

YES Harvest Moon was always playing in my parents car and its so beautiful on long car rides, great pick!

Ministry would have won every other year in the ninties for me, except this one where Faith No More released their magnum opus.
The Dream Theater album is great, but my #1 pick for 1992 is Dehumanizer. I also like Manowar's Triumph of Steel, Trouble's Manic Frustration, Warrior Soul's Salutations From the Ghetto Nation, Ice T's Body Count album, Saigon Kick's The Lizard, Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction, KISS's Revenge, and Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power.
Roger Waters’ “Amused to Death” is my 5th favourite album of all time. After two relatively unremarkable albums (for his standard anyway) he releases this classic. Beautiful production, anthemic songs, rich tapestries of sounds, soaring guitars by Jeff Beck, great vocals, this album equals anything he ever did with Pink Floyd.,
Runner up: “Automatic for the People”, another stunning album. And then Janis Ian’s “Breaking Silence”, a late singer-songwriter highlight.
And then there were “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion”, Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, Peter Gabriel’s “Us”, Rage Against the machine, “Countdown to Extinction”, Tom Waits’ “Bone Machine”, Dream Theater’s “Images and Words”, Leonard Cohen’s “The Future”… some stunning albums this year. One of the last truly great years in music.

I like to consider myself pretty music savvy, but I had never even heard of this album. Granted, I was living in a musical black hole in '92...but I will definitely be checking this out. I will indeed hunt you down for a refund if it's not as advertised...

Images and Words is my pick as well... I love that album to death, one of the most perfect records I've ever listened to, the final two tracks are among my favourite compositions ever.
Then I have to mention Vulgar Display of Power, one of the most powerful, fun, headbang-stimulating albums ever. The riffing, the drums, the guitar solos and the vocal performance are just pure perfection

I can't have only one favorite this year, there are three albums that are among my favorites for the whole decade coming out in 1992:
Dream Theater - Images and Words and Kyuss - Blues For the Red Sun; both groundbreaking and albums that spawned prog metal and desert/stoner rock respectively. The third is Warrior Soul - Salutation From the Ghetto Nation, an incredible mix of punk, hard rock, and Joy Division influences that was to be the apex of their career.

easy one...'amused to death' by roger waters....this is roger's solo opus...'it's a miracle', 'what god wants', 'perfect sense'...brilliant from top to bottom, both in lyrical content and sequencing...if you love albums like 'animals', 'the wall', and even 'the final cut', then you have to check out this classic....
Waters doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Most of his solo works are masterpieces (including The Final Cut if you see it that way)

01. Wildside - Under the Influence This album is still among one of my favorite albums. Kind of a flash in the pan band but this was, and still is, a work of art to me and my friends.

I totally agree with you. Images and Words is such an amazing album and it was also one of my first introductions to the world of progressive music. That is also my definite number one.
Runner-up race was a tight one. But I think that Dirt (Alice in Chains) rises just a little bit higher on my list and it deserves the runner-up spot. I have listened it through and through and I still love it.
Of course, Dehumanizer was the other one. Heavy, heavy album and it pains me to leave it out from the top two, but it's a solid third.

R.E.M’s Automatic For the People is my favorite of 92 with Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos as runner up. Have to sneak in an Honorable Mention for Pantera’s Vulgar Display of Power. I didn’t discover that one till years later but it’s an awesome record.
"Automatic" is a haunting, atmospheric album. A clear high point for the band.
My top album of 1992 is Core by STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. The best of the bunch when it comes to the grungy bands. It rocks no matter how you label it.
Runner up - The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion by The BLACK CROWES. Their last great record top to bottom.

Favourite album of 1992 was R.E.M. - Automatic for the People and is regarded by Peter Buck and Mike Mills, and by most fans, as being the finest R.E.M. album ever recorded. The decision not to tour Out Of Time freed them up to work on new material and the band took full advantage of their creative juices. “Automatic for the People” is a special record for me.

The Black Crowes put out a good album a couple years before and then toured their asses off and got their chops. They replaced one member and put out a masterpiece. The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion is a stellar album and is my fave (one of my all time faves). Runner up is King’s X.
