Whatever you do, don't - DON'T - miss the segment that starts with Pete leaving the room for half a minute, starting at 30:12 or thereabout. Classic UK Connection stuff! 🤣 8. Gangland 7. Invaders 6. 22 Acacia Avenue (sorry, Pete...!) 5. Run to the Hills 4. The Prisoner 3. Children of the Damned 2. The Number of the Beast 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name And Bruce was the hottest metal god around! 🤩
My ranking of the songs on NOTB. 1. 22 Acacia Avenue ( what a song with all the different parts, love the guitar work, great vocal performance by Bruce, killer drumming by Clive, awesome lead on bass by Steve at the end. probably my favorite Maiden song. 2. Hallowed be Thy Name ( just an epic masterpiece in every way and one of their best songs IMO. ) 3. Children Of The Damned ( love the dark and even kinda a doom sound. ) 4. Invaders ( although maybe not one of their better songs and I know a lot of people don't like it I love the energy it provides. ) 5.The Prisoner ( a little more on the melodic side with the vocal chorus but I really like the guitar work and Clive's drumming. ) 6. Gangland ( one of those songs a lot of Maiden fans don't like but I do. I like the raw kinda punky sound that works for me. ) 7. The Number of the Beast ( not a bad song by any means but not one of their best songs IMO. A little genetic IMO. ) 8. Run to The Hills ( I know it has it fans and that fine. Just for me it is a little corny and not one of the best songs kinda like the title track. So many other Maiden songs I would play for someone new to Maiden. )
1. The Number of the Beast 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. The Prisoner 4. Children of the Damned 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Run to the Hills 7. Invaders 8. Gangland
Hallowed Children Number Run 22 Prisoner Gangland Invaders I agree Invaders sounds like a left over from the first 2. Also the tracklisting is odd, and I love my Japan pressing because gangland and Total Eclipse are on it.
Brilliant show fellas, laughed all the way through it. 1.The Prisoner 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3.Children of The Damned 4. 22 Acacia Avenue 5.The Number of the Beast 6. Run To the Hills 7.Invaders 8. Gangland
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Run To The Hills 3. The Number Of The Beast 4. Children Of The Damned 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Invaders 7. The Prisoner 8. Gangland 9. Total Eclipse
Another great UK Connection. This was difficult I knew what my top and bottoms were and after many listens they did not change, but everything in-between kept swapping places as middle sections and endings were much better than the intro "22 Acacia Avenue" or vice versa "The Prisoner". 8 - Invaders (maybe if Paul sang it, it would be better, definitely feels more like a Killers song) 7 - Gangland 6- Run to the Hills 5 - The Prisoner 4 - 22 Acacia Avenue (more for the music than lyrics) 3 - The Number of the Beast 2 - Hallowed be Thy Name 1 - Children of the Damned
Pete, you are correct! I will watch every episode you three do. Hell, I've even learned to understand the dialects! Always love the UK Connection. Keep rocking (and drinking) gents. Best wishes to you all from the hell that is Phoenix, Az.
Now I'm gonna settle down, and watch every early Maiden concert I can find on TH-cam until I pass out. Always look forward to cracking open a can with you chaps. Don't stop you make my week.👌🤘
Great show!!! 1. Children of The Damned 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. The Prisoner 4. The Number of the Beast 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Gangland 7. Run to the Hills 8. Invaders
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 3. The Prisoner 4. Children of the Damned 5. The Number of The Beast 6. Run to the Hills 7. Gangland 8. Invaders I love Gangland and Invaders. Clive!
1. Hallowed Be Thy name 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 3. Children of the Damned 4. Invaders 5. The Prisoner 6. The Number of the Beast 7. Run to the Hills 8. Gangland
Great show again chaps. Thanks again. Steven ,you're absolutely right about this being a seminal album. I'm 51 and played this to death when it came out. I was in a similar position to yerself growing up .I had a couple of older mates that lived near me where I grew up in Port Glasgow who got me into this but none of my mates at my age were into them. I remember one day going into school when in Primary 7 wearing the Run To The Hills t-shirt and everyone in the class didn't know what to make of it! Regarding Judas Priest, I weirdly never got into them at all. I was so obsessed with everything Maiden i didn't care about anything else. They even got me into playing the guitar. I used to stand in my bedroom strumming a tennis racquet along to this, so my folks kindly got me my first guitar and I've been playing for the 30+ years since. The weird thing is that when I listen to this and most other Maiden stuff I don't play air guitar along with it - I become an air drummer (which drives Susan nuts when I start with the 'bipety bopetin'). I've always thought Clive Burr's drumming on this is flippin phenomenal. It's so musical and fits in so well with the melodies. By the way, my favourite song on this is The Prisoner. Absolute goosebumps every time! Cheers, Graeme 🍻
I fit into that "I will watch literally each and every episode" demographic. I am not a huge metal guy at all...never have been. The chemistry of you three is second to none. I would love to sit down with each and eveyone of you and have a beer or 6 while discussing various musical acts and genres. Cheers gentlemen from New England
1. Number of The Beast 2. Run To The Hills 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 4. 22 Acacia Avenues 5. The Prisomer 6. Invaders 7. Children of The Dammed 8. Gangland
1. The Number of The beast 2. Children of the Damned 3.Hallowed be They Name 4. The Prisoner 5. 22 Acacia Ave 6. Run to the Hills 7. Gangland 8. Invaders ...... Thats my list!! Great show guys!
Pete, your comments at around 1:04:00 are absolutely correct. I’m from UK and will watch UKC regardless of subject matter. It’s the only programme of yours I don’t pick and choose. It’s just great. Thanks to you and the team!
Fun show as always! Hallowed Be Thy Name used to be my favorite song on this album, but nowadays I rank it quite much lower. It´s an amazing song, but I think that it´s too fast. Especially the intro is way better when it´s played slower and I´m almost sure that I´ve seen them playing it live in a slower tempo in the beginning and then increasing the tempo later in the song. At least I hear it that way in my head. One way or another my ranking is following : 1) Run To The Hills 2) The Prisoner 3) The Number of The Beast 4) 22 Acacia Avenue 5) Hallowed Be Thy Name 6) Children of The Damned 7) Invaders 8) Gangland.
Absolutely! I’ve left a comment to this effect. The Live After Death version has a much slower and thereby more effective, atmospheric intro and they pick up the pace for the rest of the song.
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode guys! Fantastic album. My ranking is - 8. Gangland 7. Invaders 6. The Prisoner 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 4. Run To The Hills 3. Children of The Damned (as you said a testament to the song writing skills making this track feel as if it`s much longer). 2. Hallowed By Thy Name 1. The Number of The Beast (hard to imagine my Halloween playlist without this classic! And Vincent Price! 😉)
Wow probably one of the toughest classic album rankings show so far, this album is a classic not a bad song on it, here’s my ranking 1. Hollowed be thy name 2. The Prisoner 3. The Number of the Beast 4. 22 Acacia Avenue 5. Run to the Hills 6. Invaders 7. Children of the Damned 8. Gangland
I'll go with: 1. Run to the Hills 2. Number of the Beast 3. The Prisoner 4. Invaders 5. Hallowed be thy Name 6. 22 Acacia Avenue 7. Total Eclipse 8. Children of the Damned 9. Gangland
1. Children of the damned 2. The number of the beast 3. The prisoner 4. Run to the hills 5. Hallowed be thy name [Total eclipse] 6. Invaders 7. 22 acacia avenue 8. Gangland
When I was around 8, my little sister and I went to stay with my grandmother for the weekend. As she was pushing us, she started singing “there was an old woman who lived in a shoe.” as soon as she finished, my sister and I started busting out some Run to the Hills, because our dad had showed us the music video on TH-cam that week and we really liked the four man bicycle. Our grandmother was not amused 😂
You guys will have me revisiting my Maiden collection. I dropped off after “Somewhere In Time”, but I grew up listening to Maiden in High School. 1. Hallowed be thy Name 2. Number of the Beast 3. Run To The Hills 4. Children of the Damned 5. 22…. 6. The Prisoner 7. Invaders 8. Gangland
1) Hallowed be thy name 2) The Prisoner 3) 22 Acacia Avenue 4) Number of the beast 5) Gangland 6) Invaders 7) Children of the Damned 8) Run to the hills 9) Total Eclipse
8. Gangland 7. Invaders 6, Run To The Hills 5. The Number Of The Beast 4. The Prisoner 3. Children Of The Damned 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name And Priest a little over Maiden. Love both though.
I agree with your list and your Priest-over-Maiden-judgement. I guess nobody of a sane mind would say that Priest is the better band. But... they have Steeler! 🙂
Today’s beer is from Sun King Brewery here in Indiana. Screaming Spiders, an unfiltered IPA 6.5ABV cheers!🍻 Man this was difficult ranking these songs. What a great album. #8- Gangland #7- Invaders #6- 22 Acacia Avenue #5- Prisoner #4- Children of the Damned #3- Run to the Hills #2- Number of the Beast #1- Hallowed Be Thy Name This was not easy. Any song of my #2,3 and 4 could have been switched around. Even the songs that we all have heard over and over , STILL KICK ASS and IMO still hold up well. Some songs you hear over and over don’t hold up very well and I do get tired of hearing. Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills I never get tired of hearing. Great show guys! See you in 2 weeks 🤘
Another great video gents! I'm in the beautiful Yorkshire city of York this week with its fantastic Brew York beers (Includingtheclassic Juice Forsyth!), so this week I'm drinking Timothy Taylor's Hopical Storm which comes from a brewery about 10 miles from where Ilive!! I have to agree with what you all said, I also really like all the songs here. Let's have a go... 8. Invaders 7. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Gangland 5.The Prisoner 4. Run to the Hills 3.Children of the Damned 2. The Number of the Beast 1. Hallowed be thy Name
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Children of the Damned 3. The Prisoner 4. The Number of the Beast 5. Invaders 6. Run to the Hills 7. 22 Acacia Avenue 8. Gangland
1. Total Eclipse 2. The Prisoner 3. Number Of The Beast 4. 22 Acacia Avenue 5. Children Of The Damned 6. Gangland 7. Run To The Hills 8. Hallowed Be Thy Name 9. Invaders
1a. 22 Acacia Avenue 1b. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. The Number of the Beast 4. The Prisoner 5. Run to the Hills 6. Gangland 7. Children of the Damned 8. Invaders 9. Total Eclipse
8. Invaders 7. Gangland 6. 22 Acacia Avenue (This is the song that has grown on me over the years.) 5. Children of the Damned 4. The Prisoner 3. Run To The Hills (This would have been my number 1 when I was younger because it was the song that introduced me to Iron Maiden.) 2. Number of the Beast 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name
Great show, gentlemen! 1.) Hallowed Be Thy Name 2.) 22 Acacia Avenue 3.) Run To The Hills 4.) The Prisoner 5.) Children Of The Damned 6.) Number Of The Beast 7.) Gangland 8.) Invaders
The best thing about ranking this album, and it's not which Iron Maiden track is the best. It's the banter between Simon and Steve when Pete goes away, I couldn't stop laughing. My first introduction to the album was that it was used for "comedic" purposes in a godawful British movie Morons From Outer Space. The ironic thing is the movie was more tortuous than the album. With regard to The Prisoner. I absolutely love that track, however I do wish Bruce changed one word from that song. Surely it would've made more sense if the lyrics were, I'm breaking out! The song is about a prisoner breaking out from his prison, he's not coming out of prison, like they've released him after serving his time. Bruce is insinuating that he's escaped, he's on the run, he's broke out of prison. He definitely did not come out.
Definitely. That was improv at its finest. I think that should be a little segment from now during an episode where Pete deliberately goes away for five minutes and then comes back again. 😂
Pete. The reason so many Brits watch this is because we like seeing you look completely bewildered when Simon and Stephen use references to UK TV shows and TV ads from decades ago and you have no clue what they're talking about. The blank looks of confusion on your face make us laugh. Anyhoo. 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name. 2. Children Of The Damned 3. Number Of The Beast 4. The Prisoner 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Run To The Hills 7. Invaders 8. Gangland
Brilliant show again 😀 Featuring the album that set me off on my lifelong love of metal. Still one of my fave albums of all time. I would buy a UK connection t shirt if it mentioned beer 🍺 👍
Traveller is badass ,Pete. The Priest Maiden discussion is essential and was the most interesting to me. Not to say the entire episode wasn't great because it was! My formative years came back to me and I thank you and your guests. Fantastic!
"He just goes into Walmart and steals!" XD Simon's great! But seriously, I don't mind "Invaders" opening up the album, but I think the title track would've been a better opener. Also, I have mad respect for Bruce Dickinson because he's an incredible frontman that knows how to have a fun time and get the crowd going!
Great album absolute classic 8 Gangland 7 22 Acacia Avenue 6 Invaders 5 The Prisoner 4 The Number Of The Beast 3 Run To The Hills 2 Children Of The Damned 1 HALLOWED BE THY NAME An all time classic track
Hi gents, been out all day so, as usual, this will be my listening material for work tomorrow night. Doubtless, I'll be left smiling. Truly a classic album, and even the "weaker" tracks on here are 7 out of 10 songs... For what it's worth, here's my running order, best to "worst"! Hallowed Be Thy Name 10/10 The Prisoner 10/10 Children Of The Damned 9/10 22 Acacia Avenue 8/10 Run To The Hills 8/10 Number of The Beast 8/10 Gangland 7/10 Invaders 7/10
Great show as always. Firstly get well soon Pete Good to see Simon bringing out the Trooper ale. One of my favourites,They even have it at my local spoons. As for ranking, for years ny favourite track eas always Nimber of the besst. However it is now hallowed be thy Name As for whhere I stand with Priest against Maiden Always haf an affinity with Maiden as Bruse is my age ,well 24 fays older , although I was listening to Ptiest in the 70s. Keep up the good work. Be interesting to hear the next show.
I would say Children of the Damned is one of Bruce's best studio recordings. My top 3, (3) Children of ... ....... (2) Hallowed be ... .... (1) Number of the Beast. Like everyone said no bad tracks on this. Great review. Hadn't listened to it for a while as I did play it to death on and off for years. So it was fun to stick it on again for the 10,000000000 th listen.😂🤘
The first time I saw Iron Maiden was on the NOTB tour, Birmingham Odeon UK 1982, a few days before the album was released. It was my third ever concert, after Gillan and UFO. I played the album to death and it’s still my favourite Iron Maiden album, there isn’t a bad song on it. Run to the Hills is my 8, I’ve heard it too many times. The Number of the Beast is 7, again I’ve heard it too much although years ago it would have been top 3. No pun intended but The Prisoner is my Number 6. I’d never heard of the TV series prior to this song but it’s great in its weirdness, whereas the song is just great. Invaders is 5, it’s a song that’s grown on me over the years. I’ve never thought that it shouldn’t have opened the album, but thinking about it they perhaps should have switched this song and The Number of the Beast around although it might have front loaded side A too much. Gangland is 4, another song that has grown on me over the years although I always liked the guitar instrumental/solo section. The opening chords have always given me a feeling of dissonance which I didn’t originally like, but it’s in keeping with the title of the song. It’s clever. Children of the Damned is 3, as a child I read most of John Wyndham’s books including the Midwich Cuckoos which came before the original British film. I remember Garry Bushell writing a review in Sounds where he slated this song and accused the band of selling out. I laughed my socks off a few years later when he became Show Business Editor on The Sun newspaper. What a hypocrite ! (If anyone reads my comment, which is doubtful, this last bit won’t mean anything to non British people of a certain age). Hallowed by Thy Name is only 2 because 22 “The Avenue !” Is Number 1. The closing section of 22 Acacia Avenue following the first (slow) guitar solo is my favourite bit of Iron Maiden, ever !! 🇬🇧
All great songs but I will go with… 1. Hallowed be thy name 2. 22 acacia avenue 3. The prisoner 4. Invaders 5. Number of the beast 6. Children of the damned 7. Gangland 8. Run to the hills
I love The Prisoner, the song and the TV series, I even went to where it was filmed once. I think that'd be my #1. I'm seeing Maiden in a month, and I really hope that song stays in the set. Thanks for the show. This and Monsters Den are my favourite SoT shows.
Terrific entertainment guys, brilliant fun! As an aside, you're absolutely correct Pete, I watch the UKC regardless of the topic because the three of you ate always fun to watch! I even have the UKC tshirt ( plus a few others, and the 4 caps!!) Gotta support the best stuff on TH-cam, so much better than standard TV!
A little late for this great episode. My ranking Hallowed be thy name Number of the beast Prisoner Children of the damned Run to the hills 22 Acacia Avenue Inaders Gangland As Pete mentioned, Traveler is a really good metal band. There are a few viewers from the south of Europe here, even if we are on the beach.hi from Greece.
Every Sunday after going to church my family would stop at the local department store on the way home. In the music department, this cassette tape called The Number of the Beast kept tempting me to buy it. I digressed for about five weeks because I would have been in big trouble for getting that evil album. You know, being Catholic and going to hell and all that stuff. My temptation finally gave in and on the sixth week or so I snuck the cassette tape to the cashier, purchased it and went straight to the car. It had one of those plastic things so people couldn't steal them, so I quickly finagled the tape out of its trap and put it in my pocket. I hid it for years, and my mom never found out. Best purchase I ever made!
But I did hide my Slayer tape, South of Heaven. haha funny thing there too, Tom Araya is Catholic, and Slayer's satanic imagery was only for a gimmick. Shock value
8. Gangland 7. Children of the Damned 6. Run to the Hills 5. Invaders 4. The Prisoner 3. Hallowed be They Name 2. The Number of the Beast 1. 22 Acacia Avenue
My ranking: 8. Invaders 7. Gangland 6. The Prisoner 5. 22 Acacia Avenue 4. The Number Of The Beast (Title track) 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Run To The Hills 1. Children Of The Damned.
I'm fine with "Invaders" being the opener. It's a relentless blazer with a nearly inhuman performance from Bruce Dickenson. I do think the title track should have been the second track though.
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name, 2. Children Of The Damned, 3. The Prisoner, 4. Number Of The Beast, 5. Run To The Hills, 6. 22 Acacia Avenue, 7. Invaders, 8. Gangland
1. Invaders 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. The Prisoner 4. Number of the Beast 5. Gangland 6. Children of the Damed 7. Run to the Hills 8. 22 Acacia Avenue
Yep, there are a few SOT shows I dip in and out of, but the UK Connection is a guaranteed watch, whatever the topic. I'll leave it at that, as to lavish too much praise on you all may lead to Simon's head exploding from the immense pride my validation of his existence must surely give him... Anyway, managed to spend decades ignoring Maiden as I (very wrongly) assumed they weren't my cup of tea, so am nowhere near as familiar with this album as you gents or most others watching, no doubt, so I'll just say the best bit/s of the episode were Pete dropping the clanger of ranking The Prisoner so low, and just ploughing on without even noticing the faces of his co-panellists, and of course the discussion about it that absolutely didn't happen when he stepped away for a bit!
8. Run to the Hills. 7. Invaders. 6. Number of the Beast 5. Gangland. 4. The prisoner 3. Children of the Damned 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 1. Hallowed be thy Name
1. Hallowed be Thy Name 2. Number of the Beast 3. 22 Acacia Ave 4. Total Eclipse (bonus) 5. Run to the Hills 6. Children of the Damned 7. The Prisoner 8. Invaders 9. Gangland
The Number of the Beast artwork was originally gonna be the cover for the Purgatory single. They decided it was too good for just a single and set it aside. I love the artwork soooo much it’s so iconic but I e always liked the single artwork a little more. My favorite “Eddies” have always been: 1. Run to the Hills 2. Purgatory 3. Number of the Beast (single) 4. Sanctuary 5. Transylvania (Eddie killing Dracula) But I love em all 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1.) Hallowed Be Thy Name 2.) The Number of the Beast 3.) The Prisoner 4.) Children of the Damned 5.) Run to the Hills (this is where Total Eclipse would rank for me) 6.) 22 Acacia Avenue 7.) Invaders 8.) Gangland
This one is one of the toughest to rank. Such a classic album. Every single song is great and can be number 1 on any given day. 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Invaders 3. Children Of The Damned 4. The Number Of The Beast 5. Run To The Hills 6. 22 Acacia Avenue 7. The Prisoner 8. Gangland
Hi Guys. Great show. Here is my list. Top 3 are Interchangeable IMO. 1. The Prisoner 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name - Slightly Overplayed IMO 3. Number Of The Beast 4. 22 Acacia Avenue 5. Children Of The Damned 6. Invaders - There is nothing wrong with this song. It is just not as Iconic as the other songs above it. 7. Run To The Hills - For People That know me how I feel about overplayed songs. Good tune just overplayed. I.E Paranoid, Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight, Etc 8. Gangland - easy number 8 for me good tune but not as iconic/good as the others
I like the riffs and verses of Invaders, but cmon, it has a bad chorus and there’s no way around that. Also, Prisoner at the top?? Hell yeah, fucking based! Love that song!
I first got into music at 11 years old because of this album. My friend would raid his older brother's records, and he'd play some songs from Zepplin, Sabbath and AC\DC, which at the time didn't do anything from, I was more interested in playing than music. But when I heard Run to the Hills something just clicked inside. Maiden is still one of my favorite band but I do think that Priest albums have gotten better than Maiden over the years.
Tough picks from the classic heavy metal album. Here are my rankings: Invaders The Prisoner Gangland Run to the Hills Children of the Damned The Number of the Beast 22 Acacia Avenue Hallowed Be Thy Name Also Iron Maiden were made for the 80s especially when MTV came out they have some of the best music videos of any band Cheers, Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏼🤘🏼
Hard Album To Rank The Songs. 1-Hallowed Be Thy Name 2-Number If The Beast 3-22 Acacia Ave. 4- Run To The Hills In Regards To Powerwolf, I Got A Deluxe 2cd Copy Yesterday. Disc 2 Is The Manhatten Metal Mass From The Palladium In NYC 2023. Video On TH-cam. Glad To See Pete Give Them Another Try. How About A Sabaton Show Sometime. I Saw The Back In April Opening For Priest. Damm Good Show by Both. Iron Maiden Is Still A Force To Be reckoned With Today. Raise The Horns & Up The Irons Forever!!!!
So hard to rank this classic! 8. Gangland 7. Run To The Hills 6. Children Of The Damned 5. Invaders 4. The Prisoner 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 1. The Number Of The Beast
1.hallowed be thy name. 2.the number of the beast. 3.the prisoner. 4.children of the damned. 5.22 acacia avenue. 6.run to the hills. 7.invaders. 8.gangland. King of twilight is an excellent song for me all the songs are excellent though🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I always felt the side 2 should have been side 1 and vice versa. Still the same order on each side but swap the sides around 1. 22 Acacia Avenue 2. Hallowed be thy name 3. The Prisoner 4. The Number of the Beast 5. Children of the Damned 6. Run to the Hills 7. Gangland 8. Invaders
Maiden got me into metal because I always loved the daily Thompson (phantom of the opera advert )but j didn't know who it was until a boy in my school brought it in to play at a Christmas time where we could bring in records to listen to and I just just bought everything I could find
Priest vs Maiden: Back in the 80s Maiden were ubiquitous, their singles charted well, all their albums were in my local shops, their artwork was available on posters and tshirts and they toured the UK for every album. It was tricky to find some Priest albums, I waited months to get Sad Wings that I'd ordered from Our Price and I could only pick up the other 70s albums when I visited London (either hmv or virgin). Priest also focused on the US, after 81 they played Europe twice in late 83/Early 84 for Screaming and 88 for Ram It Down. I don't ever recall seeing them on TV. Maidens 80s albums are all top notch, Priest's were patchy. These days I probably listen to the Priest catalogue more but neither a whole lot.
Best story on the making of it was Martin Birch being involved in a car accident with a group of nuns and being presented with a repair bill for £666 lol
8. Gangland 7. 22 Acacia Avenue 6. Invaders 5. Run to the Hills 4. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. Number of the Beast 2. Children of the Damned 1. The Prisoner
I will start by saying that I am similar to you fine gentlemen, really like every song on this album and the order is absolutely wrong. It was difficult to put in a ranking least to most favourite. Here is my humble attempt. 8) Gangland 7) Children of the Damned - great structure in this song 6) Invader - The only reason it edges out Children is because it leads off the album 5) Hallowed be Thy Name - again great structure for the song totally understand why it is a must play at shows. Great ending for an album, makes you want to start the album over again. 4) The Prisoner - always like the show and remembered the intro "I am not a number, I am a free man. ha, ha, ha," The wife hates that almost as much as "I remember now"..."Sweet Dreams... you Bastard" 3) Number of the Beast - again this should have been the opener of the album. More on that later. 2) Run to the Hills - the chorus drum fill you can sing. 1) 22 Acacia Avenue - Always loved this song, and every time you here "22" the correct response is "the Avenue" end of story. The track order I have worked out is as follows, like an album or cassette layout. Side A Number of the Beast - hit them at the start, let them know what they are in for. Run to the Hills Children of The Damned 22 Acacia Avenue Side B Invaders - It started off the original album so it would work kicking off side B The Prisoner Gangland Hallowed be thy Name - Don't mess with perfection, fantastic album closer. Probably one of the best. The thing about this is that the timing is matched closer from side A to side B. Only 25 seconds of dead space as opposed to 53. Quicker to restart when all you had was a cassette player. No fast forward required. I know it doesn't make sense in the digital age but Christ I'm scarred from that.
08 Invaders 07 Run To The Hills 06 Children Of The Damned 05 22 Acacia Avenue 04 The Number Of The Beast 03 Gangland (love it!) 02 The Prisoner 01 Hallowed Be Thy Name
Wish Simon had ended his story with, "...unfortunately the parson was about to choose my mother-in-law to lead the Christmas pageant until he saw my T-shirt..."
My favourite song on that album is the one about the Japanese restaurant that went bust, because the chef kept messing up the teriyaki dishes. I can't remember the title, but some of the words are 'basting your chicken and wasting your Yen.'
As our viewer Alex pointed out: Superlative show, as usual! For your information, there's something I noticed: it was 66 minutes and 6 seconds long.
I knew you were Satanists.
Spooky!
Whatever you do, don't - DON'T - miss the segment that starts with Pete leaving the room for half a minute, starting at 30:12 or thereabout. Classic UK Connection stuff! 🤣
8. Gangland
7. Invaders
6. 22 Acacia Avenue (sorry, Pete...!)
5. Run to the Hills
4. The Prisoner
3. Children of the Damned
2. The Number of the Beast
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name
And Bruce was the hottest metal god around! 🤩
My ranking of the songs on NOTB.
1. 22 Acacia Avenue ( what a song with all the different parts, love the guitar work, great vocal performance by Bruce, killer drumming by Clive, awesome lead on bass by Steve at the end. probably my favorite Maiden song.
2. Hallowed be Thy Name ( just an epic masterpiece in every way and one of their best songs IMO. )
3. Children Of The Damned ( love the dark and even kinda a doom sound. )
4. Invaders ( although maybe not one of their better songs and I know a lot of people don't like it I love the energy it provides. )
5.The Prisoner ( a little more on the melodic side with the vocal chorus but I really like the guitar work and Clive's drumming. )
6. Gangland ( one of those songs a lot of Maiden fans don't like but I do. I like the raw kinda punky sound that works for me. )
7. The Number of the Beast ( not a bad song by any means but not one of their best songs IMO. A little genetic IMO. )
8. Run to The Hills ( I know it has it fans and that fine. Just for me it is a little corny and not one of the best songs kinda like the title track. So many other Maiden songs I would play for someone new to Maiden. )
Interesting ranking, almost upside down of mine but in any case I'd say it's still the best heavy metal album of all time.
1. The Number of the Beast
2. Hallowed Be Thy Name
3. The Prisoner
4. Children of the Damned
5. 22 Acacia Avenue
6. Run to the Hills
7. Invaders
8. Gangland

I agree Invaders sounds like a left over from the first 2. Also the tracklisting is odd, and I love my Japan pressing because gangland and Total Eclipse are on it.
Brilliant show fellas, laughed all the way through it.

I am not a heavy metal guy but I just enjoy listening to your discussions. ❤ From Germany
Another great UK Connection.
This was difficult I knew what my top and bottoms were and after many listens they did not change, but everything in-between kept swapping places as middle sections and endings were much better than the intro "22 Acacia Avenue" or vice versa "The Prisoner".
8 - Invaders (maybe if Paul sang it, it would be better, definitely feels more like a Killers song)
7 - Gangland
6- Run to the Hills
5 - The Prisoner
4 - 22 Acacia Avenue (more for the music than lyrics)
3 - The Number of the Beast
2 - Hallowed be Thy Name
1 - Children of the Damned
Pete, you are correct! I will watch every episode you three do. Hell, I've even learned to understand the dialects! Always love the UK Connection. Keep rocking (and drinking) gents. Best wishes to you all from the hell that is Phoenix, Az.
Yeah, Pete's dialect is really hard for us Scottish types to wrap our ears around, lol!!!
@@iainhead9898 that can't be true. American-English seems to be so straight-forward.
Now I'm gonna settle down, and watch every early Maiden concert I can find on TH-cam until I pass out.
Always look forward to cracking open a can with you chaps. Don't stop you make my week.👌🤘
Great show!!!

Pete, your comments at around 1:04:00 are absolutely correct. I’m from UK and will watch UKC regardless of subject matter. It’s the only programme of yours I don’t pick and choose. It’s just great. Thanks to you and the team!
Clive will always be my favourite Drummer.
and Di'Anno their best vocalist
I think his best work is actually on 'Killers', but it is a close call.
One way or another my ranking is following :
1) Run To The Hills
2) The Prisoner
3) The Number of The Beast
4) 22 Acacia Avenue
5) Hallowed Be Thy Name
6) Children of The Damned
7) Invaders
8) Gangland.
Absolutely! I’ve left a comment to this effect. The Live After Death version has a much slower and thereby more effective, atmospheric intro and they pick up the pace for the rest of the song.
@@seethroughhead505 Exactly!
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode guys! Fantastic album. My ranking is -
8. Gangland
7. Invaders
6. The Prisoner
5. 22 Acacia Avenue
4. Run To The Hills
3. Children of The Damned (as you said a testament to the song writing skills making this track feel as if it`s much longer).
2. Hallowed By Thy Name
1. The Number of The Beast (hard to imagine my Halloween playlist without this classic! And Vincent Price! 😉)
Not vincent price
Wow probably one of the toughest classic album rankings show so far, this album is a classic not a bad song on it, here’s my ranking

2. The Prisoner
3. The Number of the Beast
4. 22 Acacia Avenue

I'll go with:

When I was around 8, my little sister and I went to stay with my grandmother for the weekend. As she was pushing us, she started singing “there was an old woman who lived in a shoe.” as soon as she finished, my sister and I started busting out some Run to the Hills, because our dad had showed us the music video on TH-cam that week and we really liked the four man bicycle. Our grandmother was not amused 😂
You guys will have me revisiting my Maiden collection. I dropped off after “Somewhere In Time”, but I grew up listening to Maiden in High School.
1. Hallowed be thy Name
2. Number of the Beast
3. Run To The Hills
4. Children of the Damned

8) Run to the hills
9) Total Eclipse
Looking forward to this as it could have many different outcomes.
This is going to be an interesting one remember when they did the Boston debut not too long ago.
I think invaders is a terrific opening song. It has high energy and does not have a slow intro. It kicks your ass right off the bat.
8. Gangland
7. Invaders
6, Run To The Hills
5. The Number Of The Beast
4. The Prisoner
3. Children Of The Damned
2. 22 Acacia Avenue
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name
And Priest a little over Maiden.
#8- Gangland
#7- Invaders
#6- 22 Acacia Avenue
#5- Prisoner
#4- Children of the Damned
#3- Run to the Hills
#2- Number of the Beast
#1- Hallowed Be Thy Name
This was not easy.

"It's the banter between Simon and Steve when Pete goes away, I couldn't stop laughing."
For me, that was easily the best part of the episode!!!
2. Children Of The Damned
3. Number Of The Beast
4. The Prisoner
5. 22 Acacia Avenue
6. Run To The Hills
7. Invaders
8. Gangland
Yes 👍, I would watch you guys talk about what you had for breakfast.
From Comber Co. Down N. Ireland. And the biggest Deep Purple fan on my island.😂🤘
Brilliant show again 😀 Featuring the album that set me off on my lifelong love of metal. Still one of my fave albums of all time. I would buy a UK connection t shirt if it mentioned beer 🍺 👍
It does!
Great album absolute classic
8 Gangland
7 22 Acacia Avenue
6 Invaders
5 The Prisoner
4 The Number Of The Beast
3 Run To The Hills
2 Children Of The Damned
1 HALLOWED BE THY NAME An all time classic track
Another great episode.
Hallowed Be Thy Name 10/10
The Prisoner 10/10
Children Of The Damned 9/10
22 Acacia Avenue 8/10
Run To The Hills 8/10
Number of The Beast 8/10
Gangland 7/10
Invaders 7/10
Great show as always. Firstly get well soon Pete
Good to see Simon bringing out the Trooper ale. One of my favourites,They even have it at my local spoons.
As for ranking, for years ny favourite track eas always Nimber of the besst. However it is now hallowed be thy Name
As for whhere I stand with Priest against Maiden
Always haf an affinity with Maiden as Bruse is my age ,well 24 fays older , although I was listening to Ptiest in the 70s.
What a brilliant show again gents ❤
All great songs but I will go with…
1. Hallowed be thy name
2. 22 acacia avenue
3. The prisoner
4. Invaders
5. Number of the beast
6. Children of the damned
7. Gangland
8. Run to the hills
Immediately smashed notify
My ranking
Hallowed be thy name
Number of the beast
Prisoner
Children of the damned
Run to the hills
22 Acacia Avenue
Inaders
Gangland
As Pete mentioned, Traveler is a really good metal band.
Funny thing is Nicko is Christian, and I think Bruce is very spiritual, and NOTB is simply about a certain book from the Bible
But I did hide my Slayer tape, South of Heaven. haha funny thing there too, Tom Araya is Catholic, and Slayer's satanic imagery was only for a gimmick. Shock value
Love reading stories of days gone by of how we got into bands like Maiden Jonathan. Thanks for watching!
8. Gangland
7. Children of the Damned
6. Run to the Hills
5. Invaders
4. The Prisoner
3. Hallowed be They Name

8. Invaders
PS I think the prisoner tv series was a critique of authoritarianism.
Invaders as the bottom AND The Prisoner second best? Your list is fucking based!
Great shoutout to Traveler. One of the best bands going around today
I'm fine with "Invaders" being the opener. It's a relentless blazer with a nearly inhuman performance from Bruce Dickenson. I do think the title track should have been the second track though.
...thanks for the "nod" to Traveler, Pete...I will check them out.
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name, 2. Children Of The Damned, 3. The Prisoner, 4. Number Of The Beast, 5. Run To The Hills, 6. 22 Acacia Avenue, 7. Invaders, 8. Gangland

3. The Prisoner
4. Number of the Beast
5. Gangland
6. Children of the Damed
7. Run to the Hills
8. 22 Acacia Avenue
Another Catch phrase: Simon - You know it makes sense!
Every time he says it, he has to pay royalties to the estate of Frankie Howerd.
1. Hallowed
2. Number

...I am now at 30:34,,,Pete let the dog out, and Simon and Steven are ripping Pete for putting The Prisoner at #6...LOVE IT!!!
watching from Sweden. :D
🤘
The Number of the Beast artwork was originally gonna be the cover for the Purgatory single. They decided it was too good for just a single and set it aside. I love the artwork soooo much it’s so iconic but I e always liked the single artwork a little more. My favorite “Eddies” have always been:
1. Run to the Hills
2. Purgatory
3. Number of the Beast (single)
4. Sanctuary
5. Transylvania (Eddie killing Dracula)
But I love em all 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1.) Hallowed Be Thy Name
2.) The Number of the Beast
3.) The Prisoner
4.) Children of the Damned
5.) Run to the Hills
(this is where Total Eclipse would rank for me)
6.) 22 Acacia Avenue
7.) Invaders
8.) Gangland
This one is one of the toughest to rank. Such a classic album. Every single song is great and can be number 1 on any given day.
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name
2. Invaders
3. Children Of The Damned
4. The Number Of The Beast
5. Run To The Hills
6. 22 Acacia Avenue
7. The Prisoner
8. Gangland
Pete, that is so funny I’ve never heard anyone say that before, but when I was a kid I thought side 2 of back in black was side 1 also. Lol
Hi Guys. Great show. Here is my list. Top 3 are Interchangeable IMO.
1. The Prisoner
2. Hallowed Be Thy Name - Slightly Overplayed IMO
3. Number Of The Beast
4. 22 Acacia Avenue
5. Children Of The Damned
6. Invaders - There is nothing wrong with this song. It is just not as Iconic as the other songs above it.
7. Run To The Hills - For People That know me how I feel about overplayed songs. Good tune just overplayed. I.E Paranoid, Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight, Etc
8. Gangland - easy number 8 for me good tune but not as iconic/good as the others
I like the riffs and verses of Invaders, but cmon, it has a bad chorus and there’s no way around that. Also, Prisoner at the top?? Hell yeah, fucking based! Love that song!
@@curly_wyn Hi Curly. I understand your point, but IMO the music makes up for it. It should not have been the leadoff song. The Prisoner grew on me.
Here are my rankings:
Invaders
The Prisoner
Gangland
Run to the Hills
Children of the Damned
The Number of the Beast
22 Acacia Avenue
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Also Iron Maiden were made for the 80s especially when MTV came out they have some of the best music videos of any band
Cheers,

I don’t drink but I still enjoy you lads' chat about your booze at the beginning, there’s always time for music later on, many thanks.
I always felt the side 2 should have been side 1 and vice versa. Still the same order on each side but swap the sides around
1. 22 Acacia Avenue
2. Hallowed be thy name
3. The Prisoner
4. The Number of the Beast
5. Children of the Damned
6. Run to the Hills
7. Gangland
8. Invaders
yep. i bought the album in '82 and whenever i played it i always played side 2 and then side 1.
Maiden got me into metal because I always loved the daily Thompson (phantom of the opera advert )but j didn't know who it was until a boy in my school brought it in to play at a Christmas time where we could bring in records to listen to and I just just bought everything I could find
Hallowed and Children are the top 2. Great record and every song is great.
All classics so hard to put in order. Gangland, invaders, RTTH, Number and then chose any that are left as all are 10/10
Priest vs Maiden:
Back in the 80s Maiden were ubiquitous, their singles charted well, all their albums were in my local shops, their artwork was available on posters and tshirts and they toured the UK for every album.
? I assume this TelegramSeaofTranquility person is a fake profile.
you guys should do whitesnake 1987 ....an album that really is divided
Best story on the making of it was Martin Birch being involved in a car accident with a group of nuns and being presented with a repair bill for £666 lol
8. Gangland
7. 22 Acacia Avenue
6. Invaders
5. Run to the Hills
4. Hallowed Be Thy Name
3. Number of the Beast
2. Children of the Damned
1. The Prisoner
I will start by saying that I am similar to you fine gentlemen, really like every song on this album and the order is absolutely wrong. It was difficult to put in a ranking least to most favourite. Here is my humble attempt.
8) Gangland
7) Children of the Damned - great structure in this song
6) Invader - The only reason it edges out Children is because it leads off the album
5) Hallowed be Thy Name - again great structure for the song totally understand why it is a must play at shows. Great ending for an album, makes you want to start the album over again.
4) The Prisoner - always like the show and remembered the intro "I am not a number, I am a free man. ha, ha, ha," The wife hates that almost as much as "I remember now"..."Sweet Dreams... you Bastard"
3) Number of the Beast - again this should have been the opener of the album. More on that later.
2) Run to the Hills - the chorus drum fill you can sing.
1) 22 Acacia Avenue - Always loved this song, and every time you here "22" the correct response is "the Avenue" end of story.
The track order I have worked out is as follows, like an album or cassette layout.
Side A
Number of the Beast - hit them at the start, let them know what they are in for.
Run to the Hills
Children of The Damned
22 Acacia Avenue
Side B
Invaders - It started off the original album so it would work kicking off side B
The Prisoner
Gangland
Hallowed be thy Name - Don't mess with perfection, fantastic album closer.
08 Invaders
07 Run To The Hills
06 Children Of The Damned
05 22 Acacia Avenue
04 The Number Of The Beast
03 Gangland (love it!)
02 The Prisoner
01 Hallowed Be Thy Name
Wish Simon had ended his story with, "...unfortunately the parson was about to choose my mother-in-law to lead the Christmas pageant until he saw my T-shirt..."
My favourite song on that album is the one about the Japanese restaurant that went bust, because the chef kept messing up the teriyaki dishes. I can't remember the title, but some of the words are 'basting your chicken and wasting your Yen.'
I love the whole album and Total Eclipse 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
