Absolutely!! It's all about the chord your playing. The genius of Brett is all the bends, inversions and positions he can play for a given chord. Where the hell did he find those. He is by far the most gifted of all Nashville pickers
That was a great lesson, thank you. I really liked the way you broke this down and explained what is going on. For me it is soooo much easier to internalize this stuff when I know what is going on musically instead of just memorizing a bunch of licks. Thanks again.
Yeah I was guilty for a long time of just learning solos without realizing what I was playing over. Once you stop and relate the two it seems to stick way better because you establish a musical context for it
Great breakdown of this solo, and great breakdown of how Brent Mason uses the chord changes to guide his playing and create a theme on the song (mostly his use of 7th extensions).
Good stuff. We didn’t have this type of resource when available in the late 70’s when I was 12. Unless you knew an old hand that could show this, you had to figure it out yourself . I hope the young guys understand what they have at their fingertips. Thanks for your service.
I've been asking myself this question for years with no answer found. So they do change scales to match the chords! I knew it.. Thanks for finally telling their secret✔️ They're Busted.. I'll get them now
This was by far the best lesson on this solo I have come across. Primarily because it is not just a tab and yo playing, but you explain what is goinf on and thus give us something to build upon and make it our on down the line. I would love it if you did the second solo of that song as well in a similar fashion.
Hey Steve, got an idea; take a song such as "whiskey bent, hell bound" - good and slow, right? - then work out all the fills and lead. That'd be more tangible than a brisk tempo for beginners(?). I know I'd love it, anyway
Steve, killer playing and teaching as always thank you! Do you have any paid lessons coming in the future or working with something like pickup music to fund your teaching ? I’d be happy to pay to be able to get downloadable tab and maybe occasional backing tracks
Hey man thanks for asking...I currently don't have anything like that setup but have plans to put out a beginner/intermediate course for country guitar. Not sure exactly what that will look like or what the timeline would be but I think it would be a fun project to tackle!
Man, that is a fantastic breakdown/explanation! Would you be interested in trying out some handmade guitar picks Steve? My wife and I make them out of coconut shell (and experimenting with other hardwoods). Let me know!
Dude, you are so good at explaining these concepts. And your Helix preset is my main country/Americana sound since you released it. Do you offer private lessons over zoom?
That's awesome, glad you're using the preset! Unfortunately at this point I'm not set up for any online lessons. My schedule is too full right now but maybe sometime down the road 🤔
As usual, very talented demonstration and I learn a lot from you. One constructive criticism: you do say things like "up here" a lot, like, we'll bit play that triad "up here", but without saying exactly what frets you're on. It's not always easy for us to see on the video exactly where your fingers are +/- a couple of frets, so suggest you always say out loud fret # or box/position when you move to a new position. ;-)
Appreciate the feedback, a lot of times I'm not really sure at all what I'm going to say so It's a good reminder to slow down and really explain things.
probably doesn't matter at all but is your low E further down from the edge of your fretboard for a reason? looks like there's quite a bit of more space compared to all my guitars
It is kind of scary how good the Helix sounds .................

100% agree with this. Tying the licks to the chords/progression was extremely helpful. Rather than just trying to memorize licks out of context.
Agree 100%

Dude, you know your fretboard and stuff! Love this.

Holy cow, the neck on that guitar is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!
I sure love how you teach, my country playing has improved so much with the info you give, thanks for all the work you do, cheers from Canada
glad to hear it, thanks for watching the channel!

This is very helpful !! Thanks a million,
You bet, I'm glad you found it useful!
Thank you for taking the time to explain how this solo relates to the chords. Really helps. 👍

Great video man!
Thank you for this my Idaho brother another great lesson sir 😊
Appreciate that brother! 🙏🤘
That was a great breakdown, even I understood 😂
Cheers to that!
Great stuff on messing around using the pentatonic for the D. Thanks
Yeah it can open a lot of options for soloing over the D chord
Man, that is a fantastic breakdown/explanation! Would you be interested in trying out some handmade guitar picks Steve? My wife and I make them out of coconut shell (and experimenting with other hardwoods). Let me know!
Nice lucky dog! I'm planning to buy one maybe next year.... i have to pay off all my other gear & guitar purchases 1st😂😂😂
I’m really loving the one I got! It’s a great guitar, you won’t regret it.
Are you using a profiler? If you are using an amp set up, would you mind sharing your signal chain? Your tone is incredible.
So good dude!
Thank you!
Love the Lucky Dog... I'm a big fan
It's an awesome guitar!
@stevetharms and you play it well.

Very interesting explanation from someone who is a perpetual beginner.
not related but what do the side dots look like on that LD
standard side dots like what you'd see on a fender neck
probably doesn't matter at all but is your low E further down from the edge of your fretboard for a reason? looks like there's quite a bit of more space compared to all my guitars
Hello it is great but have you got a music with tabs more long time ?
Not sure I understand the question, sorry...
Sorry for my English. I am looking for music more long for example 3 minutes and not only solo. 😊😊😊
ahh, unfortunately no, I just tabbed out this one solo. Sorry!
Thank you for your answer. Your solo is good thank you for your sharring
What's Your gear to have exactly this country sound ?
I just use the line6 helix for this! I have a video where I break down the preset I use on my channel if you're interested!
Your spastic hand movements make it very difficult to see and concentrate on information you’re sharing. Please stop it.
Stop providing free lessons? Here’s an idea. Please stop watching my videos and take your shit energy somewhere else
Okay
@@stevetharms thanks for saying what we all thought and thanks for your selfless work🙏
