    Thank you so much Stacy! I had just pinned the placket in the front and had it all wrong. I'm so happy that I found your tutorial...now i can take it step by step. I am making a long bathing suit cover-up.

    Stacey, I have read some of the comments on the making up of this pattern, I felt exactly the same, if it hadn’t been for you I would have binned it. I would consider myself a fairly accomplished sewist but the instructions for this pattern were awful. You made it so easy, thank you, I wore the top last Friday night with a number of compliments. You are my go to sewing tutor Stacey 😊

      You made my week! I am so glad this was helpful. It is a lovely top and looks so nice sewn up. What fabrics did you choose? I am so happy to get to sew together. 🧵

    Finished my first project thanks to your help. I think I played and paused a million times especially with plackets (new word in my vocabulary 😁) and I got to know my stitch ripper well but I made it. I’ve since fixed the cuffs and bottom sections but I plan to wear it on Saturday and brag about my new skills. I’ll have to practice the collar and placket work more for sure. I’d attach an image if I could figure out how 🤔

    You could put in a short piece of elastic in the back, or a casing to put a drawstring, or you could put in darts in the back to take in the excess at your lower back. The blouse turned out good, love the contrast fabrics.

      You are so on target! I did just that. It helped quite a bit. I also brought in the shoulder a bit. Being broad shouldered I need a seam that is fitted or it just never looks right. I appreciate you commenting. I always read them and learn something. 🧵

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I messed up the first time with the front placket so I watched your tutorial all the way through. You will definitely be my guide through this. I had extra fabric so I could redo the front but it wasn't long enough for the dress so I'll piece it together. (I used a thrifted sheet)

      @@annebrabant7653 Which part are you having issues with?

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annebrabant7653 if you lay the bodice right side up, and take the interfaced piece right side down, match the left edge of the neckline opening to the right edge of the neckline placket. You should see the interfaced side of the placket. Then sew that edge to the first corner. The placket will be rotated around the neck opening as you go matching seam allowance from placket to bodice. Close-ups of this process start at about 4 minutes in. It is an awkward little section but sews up beautifully when done. I hope this helps.

    Hello, I’m struggling with the neck, not sure my pattern piece is big enough to fit, I’m sewing the xl version.

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are working on the round part (casing/facing). It is a bit tricky. You definately need to stay stitch and clip to get neck line and the facing to fit properly. (Remeber you are sewing the wide part of the circle to the shirt.) If the casing/facing part seems too small, double check your seam allowances. and compare the neckline of the shirt to the original pattern. There is enough bias in it that it can stretch (especially in softer or loosely woven fabrics) while you are working on it. If it has stretched, take it to the ironing board and steam it back into place if the fabric will allow it. I hope this helps!

    Hi there, thank you for this. Why did you change the interfacing order (so put interfacing on the first part) out of interest?

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Usually, interface everything at once. I like to streamline the process so everything is prepped and I can just sew straight through. I sometimes will do something out of order if I am changing thread color and want to sew as muc has I can in one color before I switch too. There are times when I can see there is an easier or more direct way to do something, and I will deviate from the directions. :)

  • @caterader430
    @caterader430 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This pattern is killing me. I ripped out the front placket 7 times before I got it smooth. Now the neckline is killing me. Why does this neck interface seem so much smaller than the actual neckline? Help!

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welll... It is hard to know for certain, but here are a few thoughts.
      1. The interfacing could just make the facing a bit tighter when applying to the neckline with no interfacing. I would run a basting stitch at the stitching line on the neckline to help pull in some of the ease and allow gentle clipping to get the two pieces to fit.
      2. The neckline can easily stretch with so much bias in it. Some steaming might help to reshape if the fabric will allow it. 3. The pieces should not fit well at the cut edge, only at the stitching line. That is why clipping is so important. Around 13:42 is where I show some of this work.
      I hope some of this is helpful. 🧵

    You stitch the INTERFACED piece to the dress but the pattern says to sew the UNinterfaced piece?

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      YES! I will use the interfaced piece for the right side when I have a sheer fabric or if it is a dark fabric sewn to light. The interfacing will help prevent shadowing through of the seams if used on the right side. I also do it if I see the neckline will lay nicer and support the garment better if the interfaced piece is on the right side. On the McCall's 7359 video I explain this better.
