    Thank you for the overview. Sometimes in lectures they jump into the details before actually explaining where things are situated. Lots of times they expect you to already know most things lol...

    Needs to be more precise, because as a med student I have to know the borders and contents of each part of the inferior mediastinum.
    Mediastium anterior-> Borders: in the front sternum, in the back pericardium, laterally pleurae. Contents: connective tissue, thymus, rami mediastinales from a. thoracica interna.
    Mediastinum medius-> Borders: the pericardium. Contnets: heart, pericardium, aorta ascendens, v.cava superior etc.

    Sometimes your imagine of body structures while studying goes to a unauthenticated part , but the most amazing time is that you believe in it hardly ,but certainly its like 50% similar of those you described above. Big thanks refers to your effort DR. and to youtube too that made me this chance see your best-hard working videos..

    I thought the mediastinum was the whole chest cavity(So all of the chest enclosed by the ribs - skeletal muscle). I mean in khan academy's myocarditis and pericarditis videos it says cardiomegaly is when the heart takes up more than 50% of the mediastinum. In Anatomy Zone, he says that the mediastinum is the area of the chest between the lungs. By his definition the heart always takes up more than 50% of the mediastinum. So he is wrong on the borders of the mediastinum. Lateral border is formed by outer border of the lungs, not the inner border closer to the heart.

    • @zeenahmatlik2006
      @zeenahmatlik2006 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Caters Carrots by definition, mediastinum is the central part of the thorax, so it is the structures that separate the two lungs from the thorax or basically everything in between the lungs . It is wrong to say that the pulmonary cavity ( lungs & pleural sac) is part of the mediastinum.

    • @caterscarrots3407
      @caterscarrots3407 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But then that means that Khan Academy's definition of cardiomegaly is wrong. And I trust Khan Academy on what they say most of the time but especially in the medical.

    • @zeenahmatlik2006
      @zeenahmatlik2006 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Caters Carrots The explanation I gave over there comes from the Moore textbook : Essential clinical anatomy. I suggest you refer to it, because it is obviously much more accurate that any video on TH-cam.

    • @denisskenderovic3707
      @denisskenderovic3707 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mediastinum is indeed just the portion of the thoracic cavity between the lungs. The medial sides of the lungs are even called the "facies mediastinalis", because it's medial sides are the lateral sides of the mediastinum- just as the guy from AnatomyZone said. My references are Sobotta and Sinelnjikov, and as a med student who just recently had the respiratory and cardiovascular systems as part of his midterm exam, I assure you that the guys from Khan indeed made a mistake this time. ^^
