I bought a Corvette when I was about 28, I wasn't a youtuber or anything like that. I just bought it because I could afford it and I wanted it. My older married sister with 2 kids complained and told me how impractical of a purchase it was, but guess what, that was HER definition of practical. As a married women with two kids she couldn't justify a sports car, me a single man with a job that paid well, my definition of practical was vastly different then hers. Long story short. who cared what other people think as long as you know what you are doing makes sense to you.

Many businesses report nothing in profit, but the owners are worth billions. You're all not looking at this with a business mind. When you're in business, it's like an entirely different world.

Yep, its very bad, at least he isn't going to pay for 84 month, I understand his situation by taking a bigger risk. Take a bigger monthly finance, to have a lower % of interest. Pretty sure if he did take a 12 years finance, that % would be 10 to 15%. If calculated its 3,500$ per month x 84 = 294,000$ - 222,000$ = 72,000$ of interest if he did 84 month, which is insane.

Problem is Mike is missing something big time. The IRS will reclassify your "business" if it doesn't turn profit in something 3 out of 5 years, and then it gets reclassified as a "hobby" and the tax write offs will disappear and audits may come. It's not a business if you just drive exotic cars all the time and keep writing off expenses to reduce your taxable income for years and years. Dude only profited 20k or so and he will need to generate a profit to be clear in the eyes of the IRS. This is something that gets missed alot in people who are self employed or runs a side hustle and thinks they can just write off everything year after year
Working as an accountant you are 100% setting yourself up for an audit. If your wife and yours expenses outweigh your income yet you get audited and showing your paying all your expenses (housing, kids, etc etc) and yet your saving on top of that. you will get wrecked in an audit. What others said is your are setting yourself up to get changed to a hobby if you write off every single penny such as gas. You are driving your “car” more than just business so those expenses don’t become “business”. If you travel to Europe and make a single video your entire 15k trip doesn’t become “business expenses” because you have a youtube channel.
Finally someone who is honest about his craziness with cars and buying cars - must respect you for it! Your justification sounds almost like mine, just that I was only able to justify a BMW M6 GC... Respect!

When you have a business like him about 95% of every expense he has is a write off Including his health care going out to dinner etc. Statistically, his income puts him in like the top 5% income earners in the world, yes 95% of the people in the world don't even earn anywhere near that.

I am a finance manager and I can tell you you've made the right choice. Happiness doesn't have a price.

Problem is Mike is missing something big time. The IRS will reclassify your "business" if it doesn't turn profit in something 3 out of 5 years, and then it gets reclassified as a "hobby" and the tax write offs will disappear and audits may come. It's not a business if you just drive exotic cars all the time and keep writing off expenses to reduce your taxable income for years and years. Dude only profited 20k or so and he will need to generate a profit to be clear in the eyes of the IRS. This is something that gets missed alot in people who are self employed or runs a side hustle and thinks they can just write off everything year after year
Claiming $200,000 plus in expenses on $235,000 in income sounds like a great way to get audited. LOL
Working as an accountant you are 100% setting yourself up for an audit. If your wife and yours expenses outweigh your income yet you get audited and showing your paying all your expenses (housing, kids, etc etc) and yet your saving on top of that. you will get wrecked in an audit.
What others said is your are setting yourself up to get changed to a hobby if you write off every single penny such as gas. You are driving your “car” more than just business so those expenses don’t become “business”. If you travel to Europe and make a single video your entire 15k trip doesn’t become “business expenses” because you have a youtube channel.

When you have a business like him about 95% of every expense he has is a write off Including his health care going out to dinner etc. Statistically, his income puts him in like the top 5% income earners in the world, yes 95% of the people in the world don't even earn anywhere near that.

I live in California. A 1 million dollar home is literally a 1475 sq ft 2 bed 1 bath. Big whoop...
