The only reason im excited for the Game Awards is for this video.
Changes I'd make to the Game Awards to make them better:
1. Any studio that fires/cuts more than 20 jobs in a year, or is being investigated for "crunch"/abuses/wage theft, is automatically disqualified from nomination in any category.
2. Remove the Best Ongoing Game category. If your game has a dedicated player base that plays it longer than a year, good for you, but that doesn't mean you deserve a reward for it.
3. Remove the Games For Impact category - it needlessly measures "who catered to the alphabet soup community more," and vaguely says it's "pro-social" instead of being honest and saying "pro-minority." I'm genuinely shocked that the atrocity of Dustborn didn't grace the GFI category this year.
4. Perhaps obvious, but DLC does NOT get nominated in any category outside of a newly introduced Best BLC category, and /maybe/ a technical award or two (Best Score, or Best Multiplayer if we're generously calling a multi-player expansion a "new game").
5. Concuring with Albino's past two years on this same point: the actors and actresses nominated in the Best Performance category need their character's names and/or portraits with their headshot.
6. Continuing on the Best Performance train - Best Performance is now split into two categories: Best Motion Capture Performance & Best Vocal Performance. It is been consistently shown that the voting jury of the Game Awards cannot be trusted to award an all-time great vocal performance over a mediocre -to'-decent motion-captured one (yes, I'm still sour about Lady Dimitrescu winning, and yes, I'm pissed that neither Aegis nor Takaya's voice actors from P3 Reload are nominated this year).
7. The Best Sports/Racing category expands its definition to include non-realistic depictions of real sports/athletics, so as to include games like Dodgeball Academy, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, etc.
8. A simple quality-of-life change for the Best Score/Music category - have the nominees choose 1 or 2 soundtrack selections they'd like to put forward as samples of their work for audiences who haven't played their games yet to hear.
9. The Esports categories get announced and awarded the night before the live broadcast, so that the show overall can be shorter, or kept at the same length but afford more time for the speeches from other winners.
10. Every member of the voting jury, prior to being eligible to nominate any game in any category, must demonstrate their integrity by showing their gamercard/console profile to prove that they actually played 75% or more of the games they are nominating.
11. Introduce a self-reflective category of personal growth - the Oops, We Got It Wrong Award. How this would work is that audiences (NOT the jury panel of journalists & developers) would log into their Game Awards account, go to this new category, and there would be two drop-down bars and a blank space. Drop-down bar 1: Pick a year (minimum of five years back, so 2019 would the most recent in this example), drop-down bar 2: Pick a category (Best Narrative, GOTY, Best Performance, etc), and in the blank space, fill in the game that you think should've won that category in that year. Then, the most consistently-given answer gets awarded during the show as the "game that should've won ____ in 20__." It gives audiences the chance to show the Game Awards where journalists most regularly get it wrong, so that they can hopefully become better with what they nominate the next year.
12. Finally, perhaps my most contestable pair of changes - Remakes/Remasters of older games are disqualified from Best Narrative, UNLESS the developers can show a measure of 10-20% changes in dialogue and scenes that change the story of the original in a significant way. Otherwise, you're just giving the award to a 10-20+ year old game for writing a great story and getting blessed with a technical upgrade.
13. In tandem with #12, Remakes/Remasters are automatically disqualified from Game of the Year. Being completely honest: I hate that the Resident Evil remakes and Silent Hill 2 remake qualify as "new games," when they're not new games - they're glorified ports, given a new coat of paint and some technical improvements.
With all that said, here is what I would nominate for each category if I were a voting member of the jury panel. The titles that are in bold are the games that would have my vote (similar to how Wikipedia formats awards lists). In reverse order (much like how Albino and Brownman go through their ballots):

Crazy takes
i just blatantly disagree with quite a few of these. and just cause i want to say so your 13th take i cant ever agree with, its a game that was still released that year and if it is in fact better who the fuck are you to argue. re2 3 and 4 remakes are amazing games and im glad than the people that made them are getting recognized for it even if they dont win. if they were bad games THEY WOULDNT BE HERE. on top of all this a remake has never won game of the year.
Dude... You should be the one running the show. Not that Geoff guy😂
@@Mo_MudabberIt would be helpful if you said which takes you specifically find "crazy" (if any, as I suspect you're just being contrarian). Otherwise, I'll go on thinking that my takes are pretty sound.
Putting Metaphor over Rebirth for best score is insane work.
Listen to the Battle theme of Metaphor
You will literally change your mind
Could Rebitrh still win? Maybe
@ I did. Rebirths battle them is better.
@@michaelgarner4423metaphors battle theme is indeed a banger. Rebirths whole soundtrack is full of bangers. Best game soundtrack I’ve heard
@@christaggart5687 that’s why it won’t surprise me if it wins instead of Metaphor
Although some will be upset (Albino maybe being one of them)
But what songs from rebirth specifically are bangers?
@@michaelgarner4423 I mean for starters, Stamp's theme. All like four versions of it. Gongaga's area theme is fantastic (it's almost like listening to a track from the Lion King). Kotch and Scotch's rap is hilariously fantastic. No Promises to Keep is up there with Eyes On Me, Melodies of Life, and Suteki Da Ne. There's the song that plays when you enter Gold Saucer that has Yuffie dancing. The chocobo race theme songs (especially bringing back the Crazy Chocobo theme).
Real glad to be hearing Misty Er'A in a lot of these videos. I have no idea what an er'a is or how you're supposed to pronounce that, but boy is it Lies of P's best track.
I’m more excited to watch this roast than the awards themselves this year.
you singing the metaphor battle theme made me laugh hard man, it is an awesome OST though. hope metaphor wins some awards to motivate Atlus to make more games like it.
I agree DLC shouldn’t be in GOTY but it’s fair game for every other category. Literally happened with Blood and Wine, as well as Phantom Liberty last year.
Agreed
God I've been waiting for this video.
Metaphor has about 10 standout tracks in the first 8 hours
most games get 1 or 2 through a whole game
No it dosent
Really wish nine sols got an mention. Amazing game
its criminal it didn't get one
Most people have no idea what that is unfortunately
Really disappointed Nine Sol's wasn't included in Best Indie Game. SOTET was great but has no business being GOTY. I guess we should brace ourselves in the future when Borderlands DLC and Call Of Duty DLC win future GOTY awards.
I still think there needs to be a negative category, like Worst Game or something that highlights shitty game development tactics like over working/crunch. I know its supposed to be a celebration of gaming, but dog shit games and bad business practice should be highlighted as well.
havent watched your content in years. glad to see you’re still rocking.
Infinite Wealth honestly deserves the best RPG category. The way it handles its job system is probably one of the best I’ve seen
I think that’s fine, I personally not the biggest fan on turn based combat
My pick is DD2
This was very funny. Watched it on the bus on my way home and belly laughed in public at least 5 times. Peak Albino 😂
Balatro at least deserves direction. Im never late for anything, when Balatro released on switch I was late coming back to work from break probably 70% of the time for over 2 weeks
Balatro might win the indle categories and maybe mobile game but that’s probably it
I find Balatro a interesting choice reminds back in 2014 they nominated Hearthstone but I’m assuming Balatro is like 10 times better
I personally would have pick something else but it’s a better pick then f…ing DLC
I’m going with Astro bot I had way too much fun with that game
Yeah it's fucking wild that Shadow is on here as its own game.
It's great, but it's a DLC.
It's the same length, if not slightly longer, than sonic generations. It runs on a different engine and has a completely new story, gameplay and levels. By all means, it's a new game that they shoved a remaster next to.
@@somethingthatisntcringe757I think they were talking about Elden Ring’s DLC
Which shouldn’t be goty
@@michaelgarner4423 Nvm I’m slow
Seeing this video makes me wonder if Albino ever voted in the 4Chan VGAs that /v/ does every year. Bet it'd be interesting to see his tastes clash with theirs.
8:11 i felt this in my fucking soul. i have been waiting years for metaphor. if it loses to a FULL game that doesn't include cards, i'm cool. but if it loses to a ctrl+alt+v with no start screen i'm gonna be a bit tilted lol
I still wish you would play Rebirth and then do a waifu ranking. I’m gonna keep putting it out there
It’s fine if a DLC is nominated and won other categories just not goty
I’m with Albino on this
My favorite SA tradition
18:08: I too nominated Starfield for best art direction because you could contain 1k sandwiches on the screen at the sametime, each with their own physics & collision models. Quantity is a quality of it's own, said some russian guy. I really like coming onto channels like these just to hear some of the most batshit insane opinions I've ever heard in my entire life.
Him explaining on Art Direction is exactly what the category is about, which perfectly explains why Astro bot could win it
But I personally voted on Wukong but Astrobot is a close second
You can complain about DLC being nominated all you want but you need to remember that the Witcher 3 DLC beat Dark Souls 3 at the game awards for best RPG back in 2016. This is simply FromSoft’s revenge…
Yeah, the shit was already fucked ever since, you can't blame SoTE over this.
Another Crab’s Treasure was snubbed btw
My biggest takeaway from this video is that I need to pull my wallet out of my ass already and finally play Astro Bot and Metaphor. Got it!
I'm actually hoping for Astro Bot to win. I know realistically that won't happen, but it would be so hilarious to me if it did.
i mean i'm hoping it wins because that would mean we could get quality platformers again.
Astrobot deserves goty more then It Takes Two ( a game that in a way seems similar to Astrobot but Astrobot does 10X better )
And if Astrobot or Wukong wins it goes to show to Sony that its gamers would rather see games like it rather then KTJL or Concord
Or maybe not who knows
7:39 absolutely based take about the Elden ring dlc. glad you can recognize an amazing rpg like Metaphor🎉.
Albino is right
Any category with “Game” in it a dlc shouldn’t win
Any other category without that word in it it’s fine
Regardless of how good the DLC is
Death Stranding 2 is a goty nominee 2025 by principal regardless of how much Kojima is laughed on
But we all know MID theft auto 6 is winning this category
And probably every award in the 2025 game awards because of favoritism lol
6:45 so real for that
games for impact is so wierd a category cause that "pro social message" bit eliminates alot of shit
tbh i think this is here to eliminate all the top games that already have an impact from turning it into a second goty fight. cause if a game is goty it must have left an impact.
on the topic of leaving an impact *reaches back into older game bin*
corpse party exists. kingdom hearts days exists with everything revolving around xion. stuff like that leaves an impact but not the kind journos want so thats why this category is so wierd and always feels like they pull games out of an abyss noone ventured into.
My cat is attacking your mouse.
@Sunburned. Albino. In terms of best esports athlete, I think it’s weird that you opt not to cast a vote; Faker has been the best League of Legends player in the world since the inception of his career over 10 years ago. He’s won 5 world championships and led his team to back-to-back world titles in 2015-2016 and in 2023-2024. He’s also the first and only player to be inducted into the league hall of fame. I know you don’t follow league but I’m guessing you know that Faker is widely regarded as the g.o.a.t of all esports (given his impact on the e-sports community as a whole). I think it’s cool to acknowledge the best in the world at what they do, and Faker is far and away the best. Do you refrain from voting based on the principle that you don’t play the game so you shouldn’t vote for the candidate?
Multiversus was good af before they delisted it
Idk if it deserved to win best fighting game back in 2022
how in the fuck did ff7 rebirth get into best narrative with an ending so confusing NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED
like holy shit how the f did it get in there with that multiverse ending bullcrap they pull out of their ass in chapter 14.
A pity you didn''t play Space Marine II!
Anyone that votes for DLC to be GOTY is objectively cooked. Thank you for calling this nonsense out
It’s not that the dlc isn’t bad
It’s because the fact that it is a dlc
erdtree also shouldnt be in ANY NON DLC CATEGORY given the fact that not only do you need to own elden ring, but you CANNOT ACCESS ANY OF ERDTREE without actually being really far in elden ring proper.
xc2 torna, xc3 future redeemed and heck episode aigis all handle this better cause you can start them FROM THE TITLE SCREEN without needing to play the base game first
heck xc2's torna the golden country HAS A PHYSICAL STANDALONE RELEASE
and ye thtese journos think erdtree deserves any non dlc award. erdtree is a good dlc, but its dlc
i wouldnt give any non dlc category to anything else i mentioned either because all dlc benefits from the game that it comes from. alot.
I think any category with the word game in it,
It shouldn’t be nominated for
But art direction is fine
@@michaelgarner4423 yeah art direction is fine but outside of that yeah shoudlnt be anywhere. but it si and it will win goty cause why change the rules otherwise
20:20
Oh so it's astro bot
I hope so
I said It Takes Two is the worst goty winner ever but if SOTET wins i will change my mind in protest
That was a great game though! What do you mean?! Played it with my best friend when it came and it was, without a doubt, some of the most fun I've EVER had with a game.
@@B33TUS compared to what was nominated for goty that year it shouldn’t have won
Now I will change my mind if a DLC wins goty this year in protest
@michaelgarner4423 I was cool with it winning that year. Deathloop was overrated, Village was good but not great, Psychnonauts 2 was pretty good but kinda niche, Metroit Dread was just a Metroid game, and R&C was visually and technically impressive but not special otherwise.
@@B33TUS I think Rift Apart, Village, and Dread were better games even was deathloop but deathloop didn’t need to win anymore awards
I was also wished Rift Apart at least won something like Art direction
Village won best performance but you don’t count that
Now Astrobot ( what I considered to be similar to It Takes Two) won goty I say it deserves it because it’s better
And Dread won best Action/Adventure which I agree with
@michaelgarner4423 We all have different tastes, and that's all good. I just appreciate you have a respectful disagreement with me, as opposed to the unreal toxicity I see in a lot of places.
We can DEFINITELY agree that ER: SotE should not even be nominated in or winning the GOTY category though
Its funny how social activists in gaming ruin things on purpose and on accident, they ruin a game like dragon age or likely gta6 on purpose and theyll ruin goty on accident by trying rally against wukong so hard that it ends up winning in protest when its really runner up to metaphor and its not even close
I personally think they don’t know that their involvement ruins games
I think they do not comprehend that
If GTA 6 gets woke that will definitely change the majority of the hype for the game ( and hopefully make actual great games get awards instead)
as much as i overlal want metaphor to win awards it aint winning shit cause jurnos put it together with one other game in each category that they like more.
heck they CHANGED THE FUCKING RULES to allow erdtree to be in goty so its winning goty. why else change the rules
They might’ve put it there for that but it probably won’t win anything
If anything it might win Players voice award
nerd emote
9:10 I respectfully disagree. Prince of Persia the Lost Crown is still an excellent game despite the strange choice to having a limited number of memory shards.
I think that was his point but still says it unfortunately still made by Ubisoft
bruh Silent Hill 2 over the DLC for GOTY award?! like huh?!
this is peak...
I’m with Albino
SH 2 definitely deserved a goty nominee over a dlc lol
😂
My Picks

Game Of The Year: Black Myth: Wukong
There's no reason NOT to have a best DLC / best early access category TBH. Also best Ongoing/Community Support should just be the same category and e-sports and content creators need their own ceremonies.
sote is totally gonna get GOTY and it is an amazing dlc but not a game
I don’t know, Astro Bot’s art style and direction looks super generic.
Oh your serious?
@@michaelgarner4423 Yes.
Also, Albino's reasoning on why it is the best doesn't make sense when all he talked about how well the game played or the quality of the textures. Art direction and style is much much more than just raw pixel quality.
@@TheSpongyMallard that’s a shame because that’s definitely not the case at all
@@michaelgarner4423 To me eyes, it looks generic.
@@TheSpongyMallardthat’s exactly what art direction means
Astrobot has incredible colors, fantastic expressions on it’s characters
But personally my pick is Black Myth: Wukong but Astrobot is my second choice
Sote’s quality dwarfs the entire landscape of nominees in terms of quality…but it’s dlc. The albino rant if it does win would be funny ngl
It still a leg compared to a whole game
I mean it’s fine if it won other categories but not goty or any category with “game” in it
SOTE FOR GOTY
Say what you want, Shadow of the Erdtree deserves the title. Takes just as long as some of the other games without all of the extra bullshit that most AAA games use to pad things out. It's a weak field this year but SotE wins pretty handily in my book.
Just say you haven't played any on the list besides Elden Ring bro its ok
