    • @CoronaLisaa

      @@justyourfellowduck this is a part of a article i found, i can link the full one if you want. A 2009 color study from the University of British Columbia (UBC) revealed that the color red “boosted performance on detail-oriented tasks such as memory retrieval and proofreading by as much as 31 percent compared to blue.” According to Juliet Zhu, co-author of the study, red is a color often associated with danger and mistakes, prompting people to be more cautious and attentive of the task at hand. Likewise, writing notes in red ink is expected to increase attention level, therefore increasing the chances of information being stored for longer.
      Blue ink:
      The same study from UBC found that the color blue enhances cognitive performance when it comes to creative tasks such as brainstorming, but falls short compared to red in detailed oriented tasks. Writing notes in blue ink won’t have a huge impact on your retention; however, blue notes will still be memorable because blue is known to be a trustworthy color that resonates within people.

    I had a teacher back in primary school who would teach all of his students to juggle. He did this because it always seemed impossible at first to all of the kids. By the end of the year, all of the children were able to juggle a few balls, and the lesson was clear:
    You can do anything that you put your mind to!
    I feel like memorizing something like Pi is that for the world of memory!

    I really thank you for sharing this trick. One more question. Instead of association a word with a location and association an action, can I try and create sentences with the string of words.For example I was memorizing numbers in sets of two and I got a sentence. Teach sad men greek. Or, ''this rain gives Wes, her lawyer, new wrath''. Is this fine? Or is it better to associate it with locations?

    • @brotherseraphim9700
      @brotherseraphim9700 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Found an article one time about a gentleman in China who won a Guiness World Record, properly observed and certified, for reciting pi out to about 68,000 digits. He'd take two digits at a time, which in his language usually formed words, so pi became a long sequence of words: he made those into a very long Story, and stories we're also good at learning! He borrowed ideas from histories, legends, or whatever. He would've gone more digits but made a mistake at that point, which was already itself a new world record, so they stopped him there.
      Anyway, in memory, whatever works, works and so you can use it. Memory palace works; so do stories. For really long sequences, those are the ones I see most often recommended. But check if you can get back from your chosen method, the from the story or places, back to the numbers so you can recite them. Why not give it a whirl?

    I don’t really have a good imagination, I rarely have dreams. But even before this, I memorized about 50 digits of Pi without any creative thinking, which is easier to me. Do you have any tips to have a good imagination so I can see the numbers in my own imagination as an object and or such?

    • @annevanderbijl3510
      @annevanderbijl3510 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ye i also remembered 40 digits or sth out of nothing

    • @brotherseraphim9700
      @brotherseraphim9700 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I got up to 30 digits by simply pretending the digits of pi are a nonsense poem, something like Lewis Caroll's "The Jabberwocky" poem, but learning more digits became a problem because at that point everything started sounding the same and I'd lose track.
      But, you asked about improving imagination: I found that a real effort to imagine an image, even for just a moment, and the intention to do it, were enough for the memory to work, even though most of my images weren't vivid but were very vague indeed. I've read somewhere that if you just keep practicing, the imaginary images will improve, becoming more clear and vivid and sharp, over time. Put those together and it should work pretty well: make the effort to imagine, and act as if it succeeded: it probably will, and over time imagination will get more see-able.

    I want to share a tip that hardly anybody knows, if you exercise, or if you go on a ketogenic diet (not trying to push a diet, you can look up the evidence), or if you fast and do it healthily, your body makes neurons in the hippocampus to remember things, and boosts neuroplasticity, allowing you to remember more information, and quite easily. We are born with a set amount of neurons so whatever you use them for, is what you will be the strongest at but you can make more through those tips.

    I discovered that I have aphantasia few weeks ago. After reading about my condition I came across your memory skills. Unfortunately, I will never be able to use this technique.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joselline Garcia Can you remember what you did today? Then you can use this technique, just tell yourself: “This morning when I woke up my partner pulled their underwear down so they could fart on a candle which lighted up” Then spend a few seconds pondering on what the situation makes you think or feel, I would think: where did the candle come from? why did they think farting a candle was o good idea? why it lighted up with the fart? what if the candle fell down on the bed? The feelings would make the memory stick even if you cannot visualize the scene.

    • @brotherseraphim9700
      @brotherseraphim9700 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. I don't have aphantasia, but my imaginary images are most often very vague -- and yet, even so, the mere *intention* and the moment of effort are enough for it to work, even though the image isn't clear at all. You might try the technique on that basis, and see if it works despite the aphantasia.
      If not, perhaps imagining a sequence of sounds might work? Or some tactile sequences? Visual imagery is what is usually taught only because most folks find the visual the strongest aspect of their imagination, but with memory, anything that works will do, so it's fair play to try whatsover might work. Okay to be creative and experimental!

    Hi! QUESTION you said one letter one digit but then when you explain 8. You say that for you it can be an F/V/W. So Do I do the same with the other numbers. choosing multiple letters instead of one?

      I don't know what she'd say. But you could. The "major system" does, for some digits. Memory work is pretty flexible, and you can experiment with it and play with it, try things out.

    Oh I was wondering if it was one letter per number. And now I know it is. Do you sometimes change the number and the letter so it can go with your story? what tecnique did you start with? Do you mix the techniques? if so how do you decide wich one to use? My native language is spanish , you as a BILINGUAL what do you suggest? learning the memory method in your own language, the one that you are currently using or the one that you feel the most comfortable with. Oh I get so confused because I also speak french so I don't know wich one will be more accurate. do you mix also languages when memorizing?
    I see it is easier to create words in english than in spanish but My english is not as good for creating a 3 consonant word.
    HELP ME ! My questions are really interesting haha You should answer me.

    • @brotherseraphim9700
      @brotherseraphim9700 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, here it is, 7 months later and she didn't answer, but I can share a thought or two. For one thing, you can't change the number, of course; if you change the number, you won't have pi; you'll have a different number.
      As for languages, why not use the language you know best? And you can change the letters that you assign to the numbers, to make it easier to find words; I admit, that would take some experimenting. Or, make 2-consonant words, instead of 3-consonant words; it should be easier.
      Ah, your questions are interesting, so she should answer you? Alas, I think you don't want the answer to be from me, ha ha! :-)

    Random question - anyone else notice this pattern?
    79-32-38 ...
    38-32-79
    I remember 2 digits at a time, using film titles and their year of release, e.g. '79=Alien, '32=Freaks, '38=Robin Hood/Errol Flynn/freak in bed

      You've memorized 18 digits? That's pretty good!
      for my part, I first learned 2 digits (after the decimal point); then, later, I got it up to 5. Later, I tried again and got it up to 14 digits after the point. Right now I've got 30, but going father gets very confusing, so I'll be looking to try some method. My own method was to recite it like a nonsense poem, such as "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Caroll (or Carrol?) (I should eat a carrot...)

      @@debbies7544 Hi... I know this is months after you wrote about memorizing pi, but I couldn't help wanting to say, in reply, it's okay to take it slowly. I often learn faster, by slowing down some. Not sure if that would help you or not, though. My own memory seems to work better when I treat it with personal courtesy, and do the memorizing as a leisurely game, instead of an all-out contest or competition.
