  • We're excited to share the second movement from Daniel Cueto's commissioned work, Momentos Peruanos: Fantasía de Tijeras (Scissor Dance). This traditional dance, performed by Quechua communities in the Andes, features dancers wielding polished iron rods like scissors, moving in a choreographed duel of step-dancing, acrobatics, and increasingly demanding movements. Traditionally accompanied by a violinist and harpist, the dance is a vibrant expression of culture and skill.
In fact, each movement in MOMENTOS PERUANOS is modeled on a particular genre that is traditionally danced to, so please visit Daniel's website to find out more! We've thoroughly enjoyed playing this piece, and it's a favorite among Kalliope's repertoire.
Stay tuned as we delve more into our repertoire this September and October in preparation for our Novemeber concert series!
