7 Years of Drumming Progress

To celebrate the completion of my Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music, I wanted to put together a video that documented my drumming progress over the past number of years. This video documents how my playing has changed from 2012 to 2019 (9th grade to the end of my B.Mus degree).

Great video! I'm very new to drumming - I got here by watching some of your Drumeo stuff. As you progressed the kit changes a lot, I love the one in the final clip with the tom on the left. Is there anything in particular that made you move to smaller kits?

Thanks Mark! I played 7-8 piece kits for quite a while (I was super into Rush, Tool, and other progressive music when I was younger) and then when I decided I wanted to study jazz I told myself I was going to commit to playing a 4 piece kit for at least four years until I graduated. Long story short, moving to a smaller kit helped me develop my creativity and melodic playing because I only had a few drums/cymbals to work with. Now I’m most comfortable on a 4 piece kit, but I still enjoy playing bigger kits as well :).

It was different each year. The last four years were around 3-6 hours per day on average. Before, about one hour per day.

I’ve been playing for 15 years (since I was 8 years old). It depends on how effective your practice is.
